Sorry to be so graphic and personal but...I wonder about Avonte's toilet habits. If he is soiling himself he would surely draw a lot of attention on the trains.

RSBM: I can tell you- the SPED teachers really work endlessly to get kids toilet trained- at least day time trained- as soon as possible. It is worked, and worked, and worked. It is the #1 skill parent & teachers both want mastered.

It was said upthread that he knows the train system. I wonder if that means he knows the line colors, where they go, etc. If so- where would he go? Or- is he just into the train riding, watching, the rail yard- some specifics could be really helpful.

Hi

Ive been lurking forever

I always check in for updates on Hassani Campbell and

I hope this isnt a silly question, but why isn't the FBI involved in the search

Not a silly question at all! I believe the FBI only get involved in missing children cases if the child is believed to be kidnapped, 12 years or younger, or transported interstate. I don't know if they would make an exception for an autistic child, but it's a good question.

I'm in Penn Station, NYC right now (main train station in central Manhattan) and this place is plastered with posters for him, all interestingly headlined "wanted" - they elaborate beneath that he's a missing person. Wanted probably attracts more views. I hope they find him soon - I've got my eyes open!

I noticed that too about his missing posters saying WANTED. I thought that was genius! It catches attention much better than missing, sadly.

His mental ability is higher than stated; test bias due to a disability.

I also saw him look to see if anyone was watching when he took off- he knew what he was doing was wrong; at minimum- in the sense he knew he should not leave.

He stopped and had the presence of mind to check both halls.

We need to know if this was a reaction to the new school, to something/someone at school that triggered him- or was it just the chance to escape?

I think he is somewhere near where he wanted to go- the "where" being someone's home, a restaurant, the rail yard, zoo, etc., or on a train. His mother, brother, and teachers would know his pattern / what he runs for and to- if they are asked the right questions.

If he had a recent behavior analysis- it may hold some clues too.

I was hoping for good news here tonight :( praying he is found safe! It's been a week, scary! I'd be frantic if I were his mom :( prayers for his family too.

All good points, Mom!

I am curious about the "trigger" that set off his "running" , too!

Another case that I am helpless.

I don't know anything about NY.

I am so concerned for this young man!!

Have they heard anything new on finding him.I pray they find him soon.

I don't really like the criticism of the people who are saying its unacceptable

As mentioned before, I work with severely autistic kids as my full time job. There is one kid who is hellbent on escapping.. He is one to one at all times.. We keep an eye on him constantly. And he has still escaped 10 times in 3-4 years...it's not as easy as everyone thinks, especially when there's 7 other kids living with them and 10+ in the same classroom. You might say its easy to keep an eye on one to ones, but it's not that easy when other staff need your help cause one of the other kids is acting up.

I'm just curious, escaping out of the classroom or the school? My ASD child attends an inclusive special education school and all doors leading outside are locked during school hours for security and to prevent "runners" from leaving he building.

I can understand the kid escaping. my son has Autism and is fast with no fear

I dont understand the security guard letting him or any kid leave the building during school hours without a pass or an adult.

Also the school waited an hour before calling the police and parents.

I wonder how many other times hes "eloped" from school but then found right away

Ok, I've been following this for several days and it's making me crazy. I've read every story and watched every video I could find. I'd be on a plane to NYC to search if I could.

This is what I found so far: Big Win for NYC Transit; 200 maintenance workers search every inch of rail in the area. NYPD response is top notch, putting out a BOLO and doing searches. Big Fail for the school. Especially the security guard; who spoke with Avonte as she watched him walk away without a reply. The family is fully engaged in the search; his brother raised money () to fund a search headquarters in front of the school.

Timeline: Lunchtime at the school, a fight broke out in the lunch room and teachers were distracted breaking it up, as Avonte slipped out, right past a security guard who asks him where he's going, but lets him pass when she gets no reply. He is seen on video running towards the door and again on the outside camera, running down the street towards Gantry Park. Police report Avonte was seen on video surveillance 'skipping' in Gantry Park. I read on their facebook page that bloodhounds tracked him to Van Dam St before losing the scent. This is not far from the #7 train station and Queens Blvd, which would be the way home. This location is also in between school and home. After playing in the park, he may have tried to go home along a route he had taken with his mother (according to his brother). There was a report from WABC, that I haven't been able to confirm, that Avonte had run off 3 times previously and was found in the subway each time.

I am hoping that he simply missed his stop/transfer and will be found riding the train trying to get back. NYers are generous, I'm sure folks have given him food. Someone will notice him using a public restroom or looking for food. He's not dressed for the weather and will stand out. The posters have gone up all over the city and on the TV news, someone has to have seen him. <3

So many people, so many places, NYC is so infinite, truly a major challenge here. Like a needle in a haystack. :(

I agree.I'm wondering if he took the subway to some where too and is lost not knowing where he is?I don't mean to sound stupid. But where do all the stops go? I am not familiar with New York at all.But on another track.I strongly believe in blood hound tracking dogs. bloodhounds tracked him to Van Dam St.What is right immediately near where the scent ended? Have they brought cadaver dogs into that area?

Van Dam is a busy commercial road, through a warehouse district, towards a huge train yard. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=van+dam+st+nyc&ie=UTF-8&ei=YNBZUum1MYeI9ATblIDoCg&ved=0CAoQ_AUoAg

Is it near this subway station? Where did his scent exactly end?
