It never hurts to look. Unless there's some indication the missing person died at the time they disappeared, it's always possible.

Circumstances of Disappearance
Murphy left her residence en route to a local restaurant to meet her boyfriend and was last seen on foot at ShopRite Plaza on Route 52. She never reached the restaurant.
Murphy's vehicle was located near the Burger King restaurant in the mall's parking lot shortly afterward. Her keys, wallet and checkbook were discovered in a marshy area behind the center several days later. Foul play is suspected.
Two local bodies of water were searched for the body of Murphy to no avail. On November 15, 1997, divers search a pond off Nichols Road in Kent. In 1999 and in 2002, police divers search flooded Tilly Foster mine in Southeast.
The last person known to have seen Robin alive is a convicted criminal who twice had rape charges dismissed in Putnam County. The suspect, currently serving 30 years in prison in Connecticut for sexual assault and other offenses, worked at a laundry in the plaza where Robin went. He admitted seeing her that night but denied any role in her disappearance. He has never been charged in relation to the Murphy case.

Her vehicle, a 1992 red (maroon) Dodge Caravan with wood grain panels and NY Lic# U457WP was recovered on December 12, 2001 at the Days Inn Motel located in the vicinity of the 1200 block of Chili Ave. in Gates, NY. The vehicle was found in the parking lot of the motel with blood on the interior.

Just stumbled upon this thread when looking in the unidentified threads. I actually grew up in Hunter. Where the skull was found was near my uncle's and my other aunt's home; somewhere between there. My mother had overheard some talking about it and I have always wondered who's head this really is, and weird that they never found a body. I can ask her for more information on it and see if I can find any articles about it.
I always also wondered if it was related to a mafia kind of thing. There were a lot of bodies that got dumped around near Hunter, and I guess they were always labeled by the mob because they were known to do this thing where they would remove the heads, hands and feet of their victims and dump those parts separately from the rest of their bodies-- in fact, another one of my aunts who live nearby in Hunter had found someone's hands on her property. Don't think they ever matched up who's they were, either. Just hands. Odd stuff.
