I don't think they would release the video if there was true evidence of the crime, like a suspect in the bushes. I'm sure LE has dissected all the footage they have.

Yes, good work! Something strange about where she is looking, right before she goes past the parked car across from her. Notice where she is looking has been blurred out - why? Is it someone who got out of the parked car and is in the weeds - and that is what she sees? It's a definite stare she is giving IMO..

Yes Exactly! There is something/someone there

Outside of what I have read in MSM, I know very few details in this case, as far as what has been posted here. I just watched the video, and these are my thoughts.
If that was somebody in the weeds that she saw, and it is believed that she was ambushed, that means that the perp had to out run her, get ahead of her, and wait in the bush. Those weeds would slow him down. If you stop the video at .35, you can see the path she ran. quite a bit of that path is straight, with the exception of a slight curve. Not only would the perp have to run fast in the weeds, but also would have to run far enough ahead of her to not be seen along that straight path by her. I also think that LE has gone through that video, and examined every angle as Datelinefan has said.
The only exception I can think of is if he ran behind her undetected and waited until they were deep enough in the weeds to make his move, if there was someone, but again I'm sure LE checked the video.
Either way I think she was attacked from behind.

Yes, same here. I get the impression that Karina's attention is drawn to an area underneath the trees three times. As she approaches, it's a broad focus, it seems then the other times it's more precise, which led me to look at a darkened area under the trees. At first, it just seemed like light reflecting through leaves, but it doesn't seem to be that. It looks like light reflecting off something like glass and it moves not like the way the other light moves in the video, and it just happens to move when Karina is no longer looking in that direction. Saw it in the awesome report above, which has so much information.

Karina is even more beautiful while she runs and seems stronger too, than before.

I watch the video over and over, and took time away and it was there again. I see others may have the same impression? I'm still catching up to you amazing sleuthers, but wanted to say...

:welcome6:

Bklyngrl007. Great to have you.

Thank you FindHG for posting the video! I went through it myself and wanted to add screenshots from the full CWD segment as well - it is a MUST-WATCH!

Since y'all have already done a stellar job of addressing the first issue I noticed, I'll bring forward the map that the NYPD Chief Detective Boyce was discussing with Chris Hansen regarding the pond and the earbuds. My apologies in advance regarding the image quality (I'm on an iPhone):

I pray with all my heart that Karina, and the Vetranos, will have their justice. Seeing her images just reinforces the insurmountable loss that has occurred.
It cannot go unanswered.
This monster cannot and will not get away with this!

Just wanted to correct some things. It's not really a pond persay. It was a very large puddle that has since dried up.

Where they are pointing to is where Karina was found. On the other side is where her earbuds were found. If you zoom into the photo you can see the words "cell phone" "ear bud" "ear bud" "volume control" "headphone wire". Seems as if her headphones were ripped apart during the attack for it to be in pieces.

I know It pisses me off when they talk about her clothes or how she must have been an escort..Especially if they didn't grow up that way.. The way she and her friends dress/ed are normal for me.. They like to look good, clothes, hair, nails, make-up its how they are brought up.. And most Italian parents want their kids to have everything they want.. It doesn't make them bad people.. IMO, Anyone who blames a victim either has low self esteem or has some other issue within themselves..

Not victim blaming but I would just like to point out, in an effort to avoid stereotypes, not all Italians are raised the way she was or dress the way she does with such concern for hair, makeup etc.

Regarding familial DNA: it can be helpful but bits helpfulness is based on how close of a connection it is and how big a family one has. The only person one will match 100% or close to it, is obviously an identical twin.

If there is about 50% of the DNA that is shared then it is a parent, or sibling (sometime the percentage being a little higher for a sibling)

For 25% shares DNA they will be related as grandparent/grandchild or aunt or uncle/ niece or nephew, or a half sibling.

Around 12.5% of shared DNA indicates a first cousin relationship.

Obviously cousins get harder to determine relationship, if a map pops up because people can have many many first cousins.

Also there is the possibility of a half sibling match popping up for a sibling one might not even know they have (for example if a sibling was given up for adoption when the mom was young and she went on to have a family with another man down the road).

Family matches can definelt open up avenues but it proposes challenges too. It doesn't tell you who the DNA match is with, only wether it's male or female and the percentage of shared genetic material.

I am disgusted by people's reactions to KV's attire. The day of her murder and prior.
It seems that many are looking to place blame. On the way she was dressed, on her SM, on the NYPD, on her father!
When, in actuality, the only blame should be placed on her "impotent" cowardly murderer!

As for the amount of attention this case is getting, maybe its the fact that her family won't let up! They are hounding the detectives and the media. They are relentless. They lost their baby!

I agree with you 100%. She is a very beautiful young lady and dresses just like the rest of the athletes today.

I wholeheartedly agree!!!! I have to stay away from social media comments. They are horrible. Especially when another woman says it!! I saw a middle age man this morning with his hairy saggy *advertiser censored* flooping in the air and short running shorts. Wearing less than Karina wore and he doesn't have to worry about a woman raping him. Woman are sexualized and it is honestly sickening. I'm not saying all men are capable of rape. Not at all. But there is definitely something in a man's DNA that is not in a woman's. It disgusting the world we live in that we have to worry about what we wear just so that we don't risk being assaulted. But a man can walk around beer gut and saggy *advertiser censored* flooping around with their pants half way down their *advertiser censored* showing their *advertiser censored* crack and not have to worry about getting whistled at, raped or killed.

We all know here (or so I hope) that Karina wasn't murdered because of her jogging attire. Plain and simple. She was murdered because this perp is a sick, evil cowardly impotent dickless individual.

Anyways, I hope todays the day. I hope someone recalls seeing a man with soggy wet shoes on a dry August summer day, and their memory refreshes to that day and I hope one day women can freely wear what we want, when we want, wherever we want.

To clarify I didn't say all I said most and Maybe I should have said Most Italians I know (including myself) who were/are born/raised within the boroughs. It's not out of the norm to dress like she did.. And its not out of the norm if you're hair/make-up had to be done and you had on jeans, tank top and heels just to go to the store.

True and I can see your point. I tried to find the original video that I saw on the news but the crime watch video is the only 1. I also wonder why they have it blurred out since the original 1 I first saw on the news had nothing blurred out. And I don't believe it's for the houses.. I wholeheartedly believe she knew her attacker. There could have been 2 people 1 to lure her in the other to actually do the crime. Also the earbuds, I don't think she would have had both in her ears while running in the street it would have been too dangerous.

Couldn't agree more. It's really sad and pathetic that people would rather waste their time and energy spewing negative comments and assumptions about a grieving family and their deceased daughter..

Thanks OldSteve. I was too slow to add the link though in this post

This is from a when she was looking earlier, (will add more from when she's jogging past the parked car and looking over to this post asap)

View attachment 101247 very first look over

View attachment 101246 still looking over, and the thing I noticed was that for a couple of steps as she looked over her shoulders kind of set back.

View attachment 101248 View attachment 101249

View attachment 101250 Then after her gaze there ends, Karina leans into her run again, to my eye at least.

I think this may have captured a moment of Karina being cautious or something caught her attention that she may have been trying to figure out.

I wonder if she saw someone she knew getting out of a car there ?

WOW kimi!! Great caps from Chief Boyle's thorough presentation, briefing and appeal for "a break" in the case. So clear! You're a gifted angel. :loveyou: Thank you kimi and all the amazing websleuthers here! I'm still catching up.

These screengrabs are of Karina, as she passes that dark patch where one sees odd movement and an odd a reflection from Chris Hanson's CWD report

The enlargements are from the first of the series above.

And from this morning, on CBS News 2 NY with Mr. Vetrano, who along with Mrs. Vetrano in yesterday's video, are inspiring to see.

I was wondering about that, if you'll recall that map with marsh area delineated posted upthread, how that effects the path. Thank you very much, Lauranyc83, for everything!

Wow, FindHG!!!!! :sleuth on :websleuther:
:takeabow:
:loveyou:

Please, chime in and tell me what you think this is?! I don't want to verbalized my thoughts just yet (even though the voice inside my head is screaming, alongside my HinkyMeter!). I will respond after I read your (and my fellow WSers') feedback.

Lastly (and forgive me if these questions have already been asked):
• Do we know where this video clip originated?
• Who was behind the lens?
• What possessed them to focus in on Karina?
• That said, why did their POV then follow her as she ran, rather than remain still (in which case, as I would expect in standard surveillance footage, Karina would "run through" the camera's viewing range?

Perhaps I missed the source of this new video.
I do not wish to look a gift horse in the mouth, as my Father (RIP) used to say. I'm just curious. Maybe it was motion-activated? Forgive me, I haven't slept in two days....

 :dunno:

Thanks kimi!!! will do!

and :sleuth on :websleuther: Yourself
:loveyou: back

Before any guesses, I want to keep playing with the image of what may be an odd figure, moving there in the dark area, that seems somehow focused on or reacting to Karina's run. I don't like what I see at all. Maybe others will take a look too.

Probably a motion detecting security camera that follows motion within a range, then further editing to help focus things, Kimi, could be possible, but that's a guess. Mr. Hanson mentioned the video was given to CWD but did not mention a source. Considering Chief Boyle's account of the huge effort that went into vetting images retrieved, it could be safe to assume that this segment is singled out for some reason, but again, that's a guess.

Karina is gorgeous and like a lovely icon of strength and courage, in my mind, as she moves, and heartbreaking.

What interests me most, is that at one point it looks like an arm is moved over and the figure moves in the same direction as Karina.

If somebody had the capacity to jam her incoming messages, could they time the unjamming to have happened near where she stopped for texts, near the puddle? Is that way out there or could it happen?
