it was interesting to me that the reporter on the CNN show basically said this guy is no Ted Bundy...ouch...if he was a real ladies man he wouldn't kill prostitutes...he could get any girl, anywhere...he could charm them over his way...

well, Im not sure....

He may feel too guilty to murder a regular girl who might be innocent....but a call girl...well, what does she expect...she could be killed at any time...etc...he rationalizes it.

I could be wrong and the guy is a disgusting, gross, pig like Rifkin...but I think he is going to be an outwardly together and charming person.

Sociopaths

So how many are there? Depending which expert's estimates you use, psychopaths / sociopaths comprise one percent to four percent of the world's population. And many people think these estimates are low.
Why is it so critical for you to know about sociopaths? Because millions of sociopaths also called psychopaths, are living among us. Yes, many of them are criminals, locked up in jail. But far more are on the street, hurting people without openly breaking laws, operating in the grey areas between legal and illegal, or simply eluding the authorities. They can appear to be normal, but they pose a tremendous threat to us all

Sociopaths have no heart, no conscience and no remorse. They don't worry about paying bills. They think nothing of lying, cheating and stealing. In extreme cases, sociopaths can be serial rapists and serial killers.

Think you can spot a sociopath? Think again. Sociopaths often blend easily into society. They're entertaining and fun at parties. They appear to be intelligent, charming, well-adjusted and likable. The key word is "appear." Because for sociopaths it's all an illusion, designed to convince you to give them what they want.

Sociopaths are masters of manipulation and deceit.
Charming, entertaining, witty
Sociopaths look and act like your best friend

If you expect sociopaths to have a crazy or sinister appearance, you're sadly mistaken. Sociopaths look non-descript, average or attractive just like anybody else.

Sociopaths come from all walks of life including well-educated, well-off families. Many sociopaths, therefore, have good social graces. They know how to dress and how to behave in polite society.

This doesn't stop them from lying, cheating and stealing. On the contrary, it makes their deceptions easier. Sociopaths from middle-class or privileged backgrounds often excel at white collar crime fraud, phony stock schemes, embezzlement.

Why sociopaths are hard to recognize

1. They're fluent talkers (liars). Even when caught in a lie, they change their stories without skipping a beat.

2. They're totally comfortable in social situations and cool under pressure.

3. They use family or business connections to make themselves appear legitimate.

4. They often become, or pretend to be, clergy, lawyers, physicians, teachers, counselors and artists. Most of us generally assume people in these positions are trustworthy.

5. They're happy to exaggerate or fabricate credentials. Few of us check their references.

6. They will say absolutely anything to get what they want. The words, to them, mean absolutely nothing.

I believe he is among us here on Long Island in plain sight!!!

Thanks for posting this article sillybilly. Amber had a nice looking home. It is hard to imagine the things that probably went on at that residence. I felt bad for the neighbor who said a naked man was beating on his door at 10pm yelling 'They're gonna kill me!' Gosh!

Those disrespecful comments at the end of the article sickened me. Amber was a human being for heaven's sake and she is now deceased along with 3 other women who were escorts.

I think this SK probably read the comments about Amber on that site and that is why he chose her.....because there were some angry men about that scam. I might add that males were involved in the scam also so I wonder how much culpability Amber actually has. Was she doing as her bf/pimp instructed?

Anyway, if the SK is stalking the internet sites for his next victim, it would make sense to choose a victim that other johns are pizzed at her and airing their anger online. What a great red herring that would provide for this SK! He could move on to his next victim while investigators are running round interviewing angry johns.

OT Good morning everyone:) I hope all my friends in the path of those terrible storms yesterday are safe and sound. Things here in NC were pretty shaky there for awhile:rocker: but all is good here at our humble abode!

Were is an interesting article...I cannot believe Ms. Costello left with a john without taking a cell phone! she must have REALLY trusted this guy and been with him before. Her "friend" (pimp?) handled the phone calls and made arrangements and her last works were "if my sister calls, tell her I love her"...No phone on a date is insanity imo. It would explain why the SK didn't call any of her family members. I also want to add that as has been posted here and in other media sources, there have been "scams" involving ALC and this guy-- have robbed johns and used the baseball bats referenced in this article. One has to wonder if the reason he never reported her missing was because he didn't want the police investigating. She got picked up at 10:30pm--did Schaffer get a make on the car? I would think he should have taken the license plate since he's sending her out without a cell. A VERY nervy SK to pick up from a private residence, very cocky. He must have been a very smooth talker...

Great post Roosevelt!!! Welcome to WS!

I totally agree with everything in your post (which described my ex husband to a T), but I especially agree with this part which I respectfully snipped for space....

I believe he is among us here on Long Island in plain sight!!!

I feel he has such a high opinion of himself that he doesn't think anyone would suspect him of committing such a horrible crime. He's a poser! He is perceived by others much differently than the person he really is.

Yea very cocky, fashionella. Thanks for posting that link to the Daily
Beast. I have a few observations.

1) Amber was wearing jeans and a pink hoodie on a 1500.00 outcall. Why did she not dress nicer for such an expensive call? It kind of makes me think she had seen this john before and was comfortable with him.

2) IF Amber had seen him before, did he pay that amt the other time(s)? Or did he up the amt the last time to ensure she wouldn't cancel him for a higher paying customer knowing he wouldn't be paying it anyway? If he paid 1500.00 for previous dates, he must have lots of money!

Too many questions and not enough answers. The article did have some info I hadn't read before, like the clothes she was wearing when she was last seen.

Not to be snarky back, but you must watch *advertiser censored*.
Excuse me?

The OP was basically saying the victims are "unattractive". I'm saying that if you are used to watching *advertiser censored* and assume that people who have sex for money all look like them, you're wrong.

crimesnooper.

I think they are a type. young, small, a little baby fat...pretty face..and I think they were all attractive. IMO

but I'm done with fighting about the possibility she might have drowned..and the tides etc etc....its exhausting. I really just joined because i had lived in the oak beach community for five years (2001-2006) and thought I might be able to have some personal insights into the area. My ex also grew up there and knew everyone and everything about the area and we spent almost every day on the water boating windsurfing fishing etc. I think I'll just lurk now for awhile and take a short break from posting.. lol

Sorry I wasn't here yesterday to be supportive -- I thought you had a good point. I've noticed in other cases (such as the supposed river killers) that people seem really reluctant to believe a person can just fall in the water and drown quickly. Especially a drunk or drugged person. They don't seem to believe how fast hypothermia can set in, or how difficult it is to swim fully clothed in cold muddy water.

I realize what I am about to post may sound harsh and snarky. But please, I am offering this thought only because it might give us a little hint into the SK's mind. Also I have never visited the sites where prostitutes advertise..so I may be off on this. Having said that, I am surprised that none of the four victimes who were indentified were all that attractive. I guess I expected that these women, involved in this type of work, would be super attractive in the traditional sense. Does the Sk pick women who are pretty average? Would he have issues with really beautiful women?

I don't believe so. If your assumption is that these "hobbyists" pick only the most beautiful women, I can tell you from my research that doesn't appear to be the case. They seem to delight in...not only the quality of the experience, but also the variety and quantity, if you get my meaning. For many, especially the ones on UG LI, economics certainly seems to be a concern, since less expensive escorts = more escorts, and hence more quantity/variety.

JMO, mind you.

Hello there....trying to keep up with this and the Holly Bobo abduction and haven't been able to keep up with this thread. I read in one article this week that the child that was found was a toddler and a man right near each other. Last night I read an article that said that it was a 5 yr old wrapped in a blanket and a woman together. Does anyone know which is the more accurate story? This whole story is disturbing but the child being there too just throws me??!!! TIA

Sorry, it took me a minute to recover from your assumption that becuase of my question I must watch *advertiser censored*.LOL Actually I don't. And as I said, I have never seen these sites..so thank you for clarifying a wrong perception on my part.

haha, and fwiw...there is a huge market for *advertiser censored*, and legit regulated *advertiser censored* is a good thing. Maybe if more states had a regulated prostitution industry, there wouldn't be so many girls disappearing...probably for another forum...;)

No official information at all has been released about the child or the man, at least not that I'm aware of. I don't think they've even confirmed their existence.

it's all very HUSH HUSH.

I actually got my husband to watch the CNN thing...<modsnip> then when the reporter on scene got all tangled up in the brambles we were in hysterics...lauging...it was like a scene from SNL.

He was asking questions like " does it scare you when the killer calls you in the middle of the night?"

LOLZ...

anyway it was still a good program and I dvr'd it so I can watch again...

not to make light...just a little levity in such a grim time.

$1500 for a date?! Was this to be an all night gig? Or was she being taken to a party where she would be seeing more than one client?

I have seen alot of reviews over the course of my research and I have never seen any price quoted that comes anywhere close to $1500.

And she left for this date in a hoodie and jeans? A $1500 date?!

I call BS!

I thought she said $150.00 which I thought sounded cheap...like maybe she was going to do a quickie with this guy.

A call from a stranger, a negotiation over sex, and an agreed-upon price—$1,500—that made it even easier than usual for a heroin user supporting herself through prostitution to cast aside caution and head out into the night alone. For 27-year-old Amber Lynn Costello, who had been selling herself since the age of 17, the offer was much higher than usual, yet in other respects not out of the ordinary. But on the evening of Sept. 2, 2010, Costello made that date and never came back.

Wonder what "other respects" would make this price NOT unsual. I mean, it wouldn't be unusual for an all nighters, or a party with multiple clients, maybe...but otherwise, that price seems extremely unusual to me.

Schaller recalls episodes where men threatened violence and he had to intervene, going as far as to chase several out of the house with a baseball bat.

Interesting, since we have a poster on UG/LI warning fellow "hobbyists" about his date with "Carolina" being a robbery scam, wherein her "boyfriend" barges in with a baseball bat pretending not to know she's a "working girl". The "roomate" who claims to have had to protect ALC from violent clients says he chased these violent clients off with a baseball bat. So who's telling the true version of the story here...the poster on UG or the "roomate"? Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Knowing a couple of part-time working women, my inclination is to believe the boyfriend. It's VERY common for a john to become violent, especially with smaller women. The scam is certainly possible and does happen as well, though.

Yes, the UG johns are money-conscious. Most of them seem to believe that about $50 for half an hour of (often unprotected) sex is a fair price, and some will negotiate lower if they can. I read one thread where a guy bragged about only liking "high-end" women who charge $300 or more. The other johns thought he was wasting his money.

The $1500 price is more like Eliot Spitzer territory. Some of the women in this case may have dabbled in that extremely high-end world, as well. It's all in the presentation.

I don't think it's strange that ALC left for the encounter wearing a hoodie and jeans. Discretion is part of the job, and she could have been wearing a second outfit underneath.

There are a few things I've read that makes me lean toward the poster being the one honest in this scenario, but it consititutes rumor that I can't validate, so I won't post it. However, if ALC and her "associtates" were running a robbery scam, it makes much more sense to me why ALC was never reported missing.

For $1500 I assume she's doing some pretty raunchy things. Think "Requiem for a Dream." I don't think it's farfetched.

Of course, someone (SK) may have offered her a crazy sum like that particularly so he could lure her.
