Has it actually been confirmed that the girls were wrapped in a burlap BAG/SACK or just in burlap?

I was at the garden centre the other day and there were a lot of rolls of burlap around. Here we use them for wrapping trees and/or shrubs in the winter... as well some people attach it to their fence to create something like a snow fence. He might not have to work with it, just have access to a garden centre...

Burlap bags are also found at Farmer's Markets... usually containing potatoes.

Just throwing this out there...

I do trust The New York Times and they did say the 4 gals in Dec were found in burlap bags:

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/14/nyregion/long-island-bodies-not-linked-to-remains-of-atlantic-city-prostitutes.html

Snippet
" . . . The first four bodies — those of Megan Waterman, 22; Melissa Barthelemy, 24; Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25; and Amber Lynn Costello, 27 — were dumped in burlap sacks The bodies found in March and April had no burlap sacks and may have been left there years earlier".

I've been wondering something for a long time now about the phone calls to the victims' families but I've had a hard time trying to word my question clearly. I keep up with the threads as best I can but I don't have time to read everything so my apologies in advance if this has already been discussed and settled.

My question is, did the caller use the victims' real names or their working names or no names?

If he used their real names, how did he get them? I would think a working girl wouldn't give a client her real name.

If he used their working names, does it make sense that their families would know their working names?

I'm just thinking theoretically that if my real name is, I don't know, Cindy, and my working name is Brandi, how would someone who got my cell phone one way or other be able to get my real name from it?

Someone who got my cell phone could certainly dial the number listed under "Mom," but I've looked everywhere on my own phone and I don't think there's anyplace on it where that person could find out my real name.

(It is, of course, quite possible that I am simply technologically challenged.)

On the other hand, why would a working girl tell her family her working name? Do we know if any of the victims did? And back to my theoretical scenario, if the caller said something like "Brandi is at my drug rehab facility"), wouldn't the use of her working name by itself immediately raise red flags?

I hope this makes sense. I can't even explain why I think it might be important, it just keeps nagging at me.

None of the towns on LI would have their own ME. It would be the County ME. Oak Beach doesn't have a Police Department, ME or anything like that.

Hi, That must be why the bodies found were taken to the NYC ME.

I must say I am discovering that LI encompasses a lot larger area than I thought at first.

Depending on the phone it's super easy to access personal information. A blackberry or any smartphone can give you access to a persons email, Facebook, texts, pics, etc. Even if you have the simplest of phones you can have your name as a "title" right on your main screen. Social media alone can give you someone's full information.

I'm pretty sure they originally sent to the Suffolk County ME and then Nassau and NYC were called in to help with identification.

Nassau and Suffolk are approx 1400 sq miles

oops. i guess i broke the rules a while back. it seems msm is not just something that goes in a smoothie. sorry. on a positive note, the fact that what i've written has been removed will later make it easier for me to claim that i was right all along.

i think mw's mom got voicemails at work from someone claiming to be LE asking to meet up to discuss the case. could be genuine or not, could be journalist, if it's sk he's one cocky sob. think there may be / have been different factions in LE some unhappy with the way case/investigation is progressing. i recall guy who found bodies was searching on his own time(?) in which case he couldn't have been too pleased. families are trying to rock the boat, move things along in a way some mightn't like. have thought sometimes that certain LE members mightn't have wanted everything about the way this business operates on LI to be uncovered and/or may have been open to blackmail.

and yes, i think he eats wheaties. i also think he has undiagnosed gluten intolerance/coeliac disease. i think his omega 3 levels are disasterously low. i don't think anyone will ever test this, which while understandable, is a pity. i think shannon is the heroine in our story and i hope she gets the most hollywood ending possible.

this cph rumour has left me a little confused (more so than usual)....

Excellent questions. I don't know the answers, but they are excellent questions.

Makes perfect sense, Izzy. It's a great question, and one I'd actually never even thought of, to be honest (although, I SHOULD have!). I suppose, if MB's sister knew MB was working as an escort, she might also have known and recognized MB's working name.

I'd have to do some fact checking on MW and SG before I could give a definitive answer, though. I seem to recall reading that MW's mom knew she was working as an escort. That she had found out from a friend or relative and had tried to get Megan to stop. But I could be confusing MW with MBB, so take that with a huge grain of salt. If my memory is correct, and MW's mother knew, she might also have known her working name.

I need to ponder this a bit, I think. :waitasec:

Why do you think he has celiac? Has something been reported that I've missed?

Hi, That must be why the bodies found were taken to the NYC ME.

I must say I am discovering that LI encompasses a lot larger area than I thought at first.

It appears to be about the size of the state of Massachusetts, with at least as many people.

Here's a question that's been bugging me: How did he discover that MBB and MW were in town to work? MBB and MW had both travelled to NY for work when they went missing. I've never heard that either of them were street girls, so did they post a CL ad saying specifically that they would be in NY on those dates? Or, did they simply go to some "hobbyist" forum and announce it there? Just trying to wrap my head around how this might work.

I found a archived craigslist ad from the summer of 2010 on the wayback website that had a number that traced to scarbourough, me. It was a different number than the one listed for MW on this site. It mentioned being in town the weekend of the ad. I think it also mentioned overnight outcalls.

So it could have been MW or one of her friends that came with her.

If the victim is bound, and they know the UNSUB is serious, Unsub starts to ask them questions, wouldn't you tell him what he wants to know? I bet UNSUB before he killed them got the information. If me, I would tell the UNSUB GFY and not answer. I know it is easy to say now but under torture, who knows what one would do. I only hope I wouldn't.

I'm thinking someone who works for the company that hires drivers. A driver would pretty much know these girls better than anyone. They are almost like a hair dresser, the Unsub if a driver could really put the girls at ease and talk to them. Get them to talk about themselves, show he cares for them, like a dad, big brother.

This is probably how he was able to not only snatch them, but have information too.

:greetings: Albie, and :welcome: to WS. Nice to have you here. I think many of us were also confused at that rumor and hope it is true just from everything we learned about him. Possibilities, you know.

I'd love to know why you think his health is bad in those respects.

Also, we read somewhere :waitasec: that the investigation was looking at 2 people who had some background in law enforcement. I always wondered about Blue's handler as he did locate 5 of the remains which is almost beyond the realm of luck IMO. Thing is, he's probably a super nice guy and devoted to what he does in the dept and that is it. Until someone is arrested or named a POI I'll always wonder about that tho.

Probably from going through their wallets.

But would they take their real-life wallets with them on a business trip? Why? They wouldn't need their drivers' licenses, credit cards, or anything else I can think of that would be in one's wallet normally, on such an excursion.

I mean, if this is a profession where people don't even use their real names in business transactions, why would these girls carry wallets containing their real information along on such a transaction?

Oh, I think I just figured out why I think this might be important. It seems to me that if he used their real names, the killer must have known them from their real lives rather than from their working lives.

Here it is:

"Hello Gents
I'm in the area for the next week or so
100% real pix
2O7-289-98xx NO private calls!!!
Inquire for details "

O/T

LOL...she's joking because I asked another poster what kind of cereal she thought he ate. Sometimes our "profiles" get VERY detailed. ;)

[snipped to show what I'm responding to]

I thought of that too, but then I thought it seemed kind of outlandish that the perp would do this out of premeditation for calling the families later. (I recognize that this whole case is outlandish, so that means little, really.)

It also seemed like this wouldn't work because she could still give a false name and he wouldn't be able to verify that without making multiple fishing calls to the family. "Hello, is Brandi there?" "Hello, is Gertrude there?" "Hello, is Daisy there?"

OTOH, I agree, who knows what anyone would do under torture. Most likely give their real name if demanded to, to make the pain stop, rather than give a false one, because who in that situation would have the luxury to think logically, as I just did, about how he would be able to verify it.

Too many questions, not enough answers.
