A grand jury on Friday indicted Dr. William Lewek on felony charges of tampering with physical evidence and drug possession in connection with the disappearance and death of Matthew Straton...

How Straton died is still under investigation by the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office, and authorities have offered no time frame as to when the results of an autopsy will conclude.

Doctor William Lewek faces drug possession and tampering with evidence charges. The body of Matthew Straton was found in the backyard of his Rowley Street home.

Lewek underwent interviews today for the judicial diversion program. If he's accepted into a drug treatment program, Lewek could have the charges against him reduced or dismissed.

Prosecutors oppose the move and say Lewek should face regular court for his charges.

Am I missing something?

This man is charged in connection with Matthew's death...

Admitted to covering the body in his back yard...

And his charges may be lessened or dismissed since he is going to drug diversion?

Is anyone else, other than me, outraged?

Granted... Cause of death has not been found yet...(after 6 months? :what:)

But.... This seems like such a light consequence for Lewek...

I agree. And I am outraged. Will this be the new defense? If you're high you can get away with murder?

Update on the latest. Sad that it's just short of the 1yr anniversary of Matt's disappearance.

I saw this online & thought it was helpful, I'm sure it was advised by legal counsel but still positive all the same.

The mother of the young man who was missing for months and eventually found buried in the backyard of a Rochester psychiatrist is now suing the doctor.

Kimberley Straton is suing Dr. William Lewek for "severe emotional distress."

The lawsuit says Dr. Lewek had a "doctor/patient relationship" with Matthew Straton, supplied him with "illegal drugs," "encouraged" Straton to use the drugs, "caused or allowed" Straton to die in Dr. Lewek's home on Rowley Street in the Park Avenue neighborhood and "disposed" Straton's body by "attempting to bury (it) in the backyard" of his house.

Beats me, Steely.

The Erie County Sheriff's Department tells Time Warner Cable News that they could find nothing wrong with Lewek's car. Police said on Sunday, Lewek drove off a 40-foot embankment near the South Grand Island Bridge. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of hypothermia

Deputies said Lewek was ticketed for driving at an "unreasonable" speed, and his car is being released back to him.

This case reminds me a little bit of the TV Series "Breaking Bad". The guy starts out as a well-loved teacher making drugs to monetarily support his family. He ends up as an absolute criminal - losing his family along the way. Sad, sad, sad!

Looks like Matts family have been told they will be meeting tomorrow in court still but not for the hearing but to determine his mental state & ability to stand trial. So his ploy last week has at least gotten him another delay. This poor family deserves answers & to get to trial in order to get to a resolution. Sending my love to Matt & his family.

I just now started following this story -- how bizarre. We moved here to Rochester just about the time that Matthew went missing, but wasn't keeping up with the local news so much. Here's some recent updates regarding this case. And now I want to go back and read the full story.
Trial is Feb. 23

No homicide charges; autopsy did not provide enough evidence
