Good question! I always assumed it would be, but honestly I have no idea. Maybe someone else with some legal/trial experience in NY state can chime in?

Welp, I've run out my will to attempt clever snark so:
today was: Adjourned/Remanded-
BUT he has been scheduled for a hearing again next time (4/12) rather than a conference. Dunno what that means if anything.

edited to add: did some research on this. The internet tells me :

"Conferences" resolve non-legal issues or those that all parties agree on in order to organize the trial. "Hearings", on the other hand, try actual legal issues. For example, if one party argues that a contract is not binding because its name is not on the document, the judge calls a hearing, evidence is introduced and testimony can be given. The result of a hearing is a formal judgment by the trial judge, and the decision will be final and binding unless one party appeals the decision.

Today's hearing was: Adjourned/Remanded- *but* there's another hearing again *tomorrow*, so it appear to me things are moving forward as legal issues are being ironed out two days in a row (but what do I know?)

Bitrolff was charged with two murders. They know he commited three. Why wasnt he charged? We are talking about Suffolk Co. So I guess its a stupid question.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt, they must have better evidence (DNA) from two of the murders but not the third.

LE found his DNA on two of the victims. But all three killings share the same simularities. They are not saying what the simularities are right now. I hope they charge him at some point in time. And refer to him what he is. A serial killer.

Two women were killed in the 80's. Upstate NY. Someone gave a sketch artist a description of a stranger that was in the area. It looks EXACTLY like a picture of Bitrolff that Spota held up during a press conference. It was a picture of Bitrolff when he was much younger.

So Adjourned/Remanded again today and he's not scheduled for his next appearance until 6/27/2016….

which is classified as neither a hearing nor a conference….

but….


a Trial AM?! --- oh, wait- which on further research just means that his case is progressing through the channels for going to trial and not that his trial is scheduled for that day. So probably more of the same to come in two months.

That mugshot was 5 years later. In 85 JB was a senior in William Floyd high school before he got expelled. He did not have really have facial hair in high school except the late teen cheesy peachfuzz mustache. He didn't really hav ethe means to cruise upstate from eastern long island. His family did not frequent upstate. They had relatives in Staten Island and other parts of LI but never strayed too much further.

Spotas office believes Bittrolff killed 3 women. Sandra Castillas body was found in the same condition and position as the first 2 bodies. All 3 victims were missing the same item of clothing. I hope hes charged with Sandras death.

Basically his statements before he lawyer-ed up are admissible in court. They asked if he ever used the services of a prostitute to which he said No Never. Once he found out they had his DNA IN 2 dead bodies he stopped the interview and requested a lawyer. He also asked them some time after how they got his DNA. He was shown photos of both RT and CM and said he didn't know them.
