Neighbors described Mr. Palmer as an affable man who played guitar in a band called Just Us.

The night after Mr. Matt and Mr. Sweat escaped, Mr. Palmer gave his neighbors words of caution.

“He said, ‘Watch your dog; that’s a very smart dog you have, pay attention,’” said Sandy O’Neill, who lives across Reservoir Road from Mr. Palmer. “He said, ‘Don’t go walking in the woods by yourself, bring your dog. Watch if there’s anything different about him.’”

Ms. O’Neill said that one of Mr. Palmer’s jobs was to escort Mr. Matt and Mr. Sweat from their cells to the prison tailor shop, where they were supervised by Ms. Miller, the civilian employee.

“He knew the two inmates and he knew Joyce; his job was to take them from their cells to where they worked,” Ms. O’Neill said. “He said he never had any problem with them.”

Oh wow so the guard I just said would be the next to go down, was actually the LAST to go down. Thanks for this!

BBM - source of the reported guitar case??

BBM - source of the reported guitar case??

I don't think so, one of the escapees had a case in his cell for his own guitar for a long time, the case was missing after the escape. Then again who knows where he originally got his case FOR his guitar... but so far it's always been said the case belonged to the escapee (can't recall if it was Matt or Sweat). FWIW

Thanks, hadn't read that.

I know at least two of us have said this over the past few days but I'm going to re-iterate what I stated a few days ago, especially now that I know Palmer has gone out of his way to destroy paintings since June 6 - I still think some of those paintings, or at least ONE of them, almost certainly showed the hunting cabin, perhaps with a guard or three in front of it posing with some sort of dead animal.

It just makes more sense than any other reason Palmer would burn the paintings. IMO.

He probably has a cabin too. They might have gone there before things got hot. Matt could have buffaloed this poor schlub into doing a lot of things knowing he was at a vulnerable place with a sick wife, etc. He doesn't strike me as Mensa material. Sorry to be harsh, but .....
I agree st. crispian. Sociopaths will exploit the most vulnerable, that's how they operate.

Just trying to find a link to support my statement -

"Then, carrying the tools in a guitar case one of the inmates had in his cell, Matt and Sweat shimmied six stories down pipes — from catwalk to catwalk — until they reached the ground floor."

Well that doesn't really tell us where it came from originally. interesting. hmm.

Yep, I was wondering how an inmate in max would have a guitar case, just another twist.

Same way they had hotplates, televisions, and mini fridges, as well as hot dogs and hamburgers after labor day, and donuts as special treats.

Because Clinton is ridiculous. IMO.

...you forgot paint, brushes, electrical boxes, screw drivers. Crazy!

According to one of the criminal complaints, Palmer, who has 27 years on the force, gave the inmates a flathead screwdriver and needlenose pliers on four occasions between November 2014 to June 6, 2015.

He allegedly gave the inmates the tools in exchange for paintings. Matt, who reportedly painted stunning portraits of celebs, and Sweat were housed in the prison's "Honor Block," which gave well-behaved inmates privileges such as laundry and cooking as well as working as assistants to plumbers and electricians, a source told ABC News.

"I purchased and then provided paint and paint brushes for Richard Matt on two separate occasions," Palmer allegedly told investigators in a statement date June 20. He also described shopping at Michael's in Plattsburgh approximately two years ago for "white zinc paint" and "white titanium paint" as well as "one large tube of acrylic paint" for Sweat, the statement says.

Then on May 29, he said that he received a package from prison worker Joyce Mitchell, who is also accused of helping the inmates, to give to Matt, the statement said.

According to the documents, the package was a "green-colored, woven cloth bag" approximately 12 inches by 5 inches containing more than a pound of frozen hamburger meat.

The beef was packaged in styrofoam with plastic wrap but no price sticker on it, the statements said. There were also allegedly two tubes of paint and a "small, green cloth item."

The next day, he took the package and delivered it to Matt through his cell.

"I cannot remember providing him with anything else," he allegedly said.

Inmates at any facility are allowed one musical instrument with case. It's prison, not hell.

Speaking for myself only (obviously) part of why I question what they're allowed to have isn't because I think they should be in a hellish environment, it's just that I have a family member with addiction issues who has spent time in county lockup and they don't get any of this stuff. Honor block in maximum security prison would've been easier by the sounds of it. JMO

Have been catching up here. Thanks all. Now did I read tools were recovered from Palmers home during warrant issued search? If he is so innocent why were tools at his home?

GGE, would you please finish your coffee and go out shopping for the day so they'll be caught?! (Just kidding).

Hey, I know how it works, I *live* this life! LOL that is exactly how it will happen. Yesterday I kept wanting to come in and check for updates and I kept telling myself to stay put elsewhere and let Murphy execute his Law. Instead they just arrested Palmer and said he burned paintings and whatnot. Which was still some good new info I guess.

Clearly, this policy is working well.
And IMO these conditions are not prison. They are day camp.

What gets me is that I could only send letters to my family member (not packages). My family member only got soy for protein, no meats and no cooking it for themselves or keeping it in their cell. This family member didn't get to learn a trade. This family member didn't get to play an instrument. This family member didn't get to wear any clothing that wasn't issued by the system. This family member had to watch whatever was on the tv in the common area and had to work their way up in "rank" in there before being allowed the privelege of being the remote control holder, which they promptly used to make sure they never missed a Yankees game (one of the few things that made me smile while they were in there)... they never got to have a donut, a hamburger, a hotdog. They never got to fool around with anyone in a closet. They never got a fan in their cell.

I could go on and on but suffice it to say max security prisoners get more privileges and perks than county lockup, and my relative needed rehab not jail anyway, and they were given LESS than Matt and Sweat?

Sorry but it just bothers me.
