I don't think there is anything magical about him getting across the border (other than delayed extradition, perhaps). Canadian police, and our LE, with permission from Canada, would have been right on him there too.

one would hope ... but it's scary to think he could slip through a forested area unnoticed

CNN - talked to a couple of hospital employees coming out of the building who won't give names because not authorized to speak but they say Sweat is conscious.

hopefully he is handcuffed and don't make another girlfriend so he doesn't escape the hospital after a few nights rest and food

CNN - do we know if he's going to be transported to another facility?

depends on how seriously hurt he is, there is a helicopter pad on top of it but if he's not seriously or critically hurt then he should be able to stay here, this is a good hospital.

The shooting occurred after a State Police sergeant saw Mr. Sweat walking down a road toward him, according to one of the people. The sergeant ordered Mr. Sweat to stop, but he broke into a run and the sergeant, a firearms instructor, opened fire, the person said.

Can't imagine being that LE officer after all this time, mostly slogging through wet forests, looking around and seeing Sweat walking towards him on a residential street. It's a miracle no civilian was hurt.
