Sorry Bravo, such a terrible tragedy and the long wait for the recovery must have made it even more painful.

Awww thanks. We had a 3rd friend who was to be on board but he got sick. Replaced by Reeve's Brother. I just wanted to point out it can take some time in finding a small plane.

Rapid loss of altitude and no distress signal - could the pilot have had a medical emergency? There was nobody else on board who could fly, right?

Rapid loss of altitude and no distress signal - could the pilot have had a medical emergency? There was nobody else on board who could fly, right?

Highly unlikely I think. Why would the plane nosedive just because the pilot had a medical emergency? It sounds to me like a mechanical malfunction, or maybe some type of pilot error, caused the plane to crash.

Cleveland police are continuing to investigate whether a bag found in a harbor along the lakeshore is connected to the jet piloted by John T. Fleming of Columbus when it disappeared off radar Thursday shortly after taking off from Burke Lakefront Airport. Police said they have received multiple reports of debris washing ashore east of the airport.

The bag was discovered near the Shoreby Club Harbor in Bratenahl, about 6 miles from the airport
.
The plane disappeared from radar about 2 miles from the Lake Erie shore where it took off. No signal from the plane's emergency locator transmitter was found during the search.
Now, the search is focused on preserving evidence for federal investigators to try to determine what might have caused the plane to crash. Those investigations often take months to complete.
Investigators were asking the public to contact Cleveland Police at 216-621-1234 or Burke Lakefront Airport at 216-781-6411 if they have information helpful to the search and recovery.

"We want to remind everyone that this is an active investigation," Police Chief Calvin Williams said. "If you see something that could be debris from the plane, we are asking people to avoid touching it, and to call the Division of Police immediately."
The mayor's office says four boats are equipped with sonar that can track underwater images and are searching a grid near the plane's last known location. A fifth boat is surveying the shoreline for debris that may have washed ashore.

According to the city of Cleveland, weather conditions for Monday's search are expected to be favorable with fairly calm waters and light wind. The search ended Sunday after it became dark.

The search is in 35- to 45-foot water across a grid that stretches about 2 ½ miles east to west across the shoreline and 2 miles north of the shore.

The city said seven vessels with four dive teams will be part of the search. Teams from New York State Police, Akron Fire, Toledo Fire, Cleveland Metroparks Rangers and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources have join the water, air and shoreline search efforts. Coast Guard boats and the Cleveland Police helicopter also will be part of the search.

Allan Eva, reportedly found the bag in Bratenahl. He said he fished it out of the water with a coat hanger.

"You feel like you're looking at the spirit of that person ... the character of that person just sort of pass through you," said Eva. "It was a very stunning kind of a feeling."

I'm very sorry for your loss. One of the passengers was a friend of my uncle's from medical school. :(

As I recall that recovery was hampered by heavy ice.

Thanks so much. Yes heavy ice. So sorry your Uncle lost Doc Jim too.

A bag that washed ashore near a private harbor has been confirmed as coming from a small plane carrying six people that disappeared over Lake Erie near Cleveland, authorities said Monday as they resumed a search for the missing aircraft.

I saw a report yesterday that I cannot find today. It said one of the sons attended a school for the blind. The article also identified the neighbors, a father and his 19 year old daughter. I will keep looking for that link.

Andrew Fleming, also in the district, is an eighth grader at the Ohio School for the Blind,

Fleming's wife, Suzanne, 46, their two sons, 15-year-old John "Jack" Fleming and 14-year-old Andrew Fleming, neighbor Brian Casey and his 19-year-old daughter, Megan, also were on board the plane. The families lived just north of Dublin.

Hope they are found soon as safely possible.

The families lived just north of Dublin, the Columbus Dispatch reported.
Jack Fleming is a freshman at Olentangy Liberty High School. Andrew Fleming, also in the district, is an eighth grader at the Ohio School for the Blind, said Mark Raiff, superintendent of the Olentangy Local School District.
The daughter of Fleming’s neighbor, whose name had not be verified, graduated from Olentangy Liberty High School last year.
Raiff is planning for grief counselors to be on call when classes resume in the district on Wednesday.

More about Megan Casey:

Megan Casey, 19, of Powell, Ohio, and her father, Brian, were returning from the NBA game in a plane piloted by their neighbor late Thursday when the aircraft suddenly lost altitude about 2 miles out and vanished from radar, the school and authorities said.

Megan Casey was in a sorority and was pursuing a career in nursing, the university said. The university released a statement from the Casey family calling the father and daughter "loving, caring, remarkable individuals."
