Officials say DNA profiles have been developed for three of the six people aboard a plane that crashed into Lake Erie off Cleveland and the search for human remains and plane debris has ended.

I wonder if this means that the remains recovered were smaller parts and they may have felt that the reason they cannot easily spot anyone else is because they were torn apart in the crash impact.

Remember when they talked about the remains tied to the seat how they could not even tell if it was human. Sounds to me that they dont expect to be able to find any signficiant larger pieces of more humans other than the pieces they have so far.

If so then it must have been one heck of an impact.

Prayers for the families. It must be rough. Basically a burial at sea for some of them.

After learning of this horrific accident, when researching what happens to the human body in a plane crash, I read somewhere that the body is made up of 50-70% water. Upon impact, the plane stops, but the human body doesn't. Not sure this makes sense, but it makes me believe that what's left is a puddle of human tissue. On the other hand, I read that Otis Redding and his band were in a small plane crash (December 1967) with one survivor (not Mr. Redding). Otis Redding's body was not only intact, but still strapped into his seat. So... I'm sure there are many variables depending on circumstances, but from everything I've read -- we feel no pain upon impact.

I'd like to thank Richrd for all of his hard work keeping us posted on up-to-the-minute news in this case. Thank you, Richrd -- much appreciated.

Indeed. Thank you Richrd for ALL you do on so, so many threads here. I always looks for your posts.

Divers weren't able to recover the remains of Fleming's 46-year-old wife, Sue, their 14-year-old son, Andrew, or Casey's 19-year-old daughter, Megan. Cleveland ended its recovery efforts Tuesday, saying it was unlikely further remains would be found in the lake.

A preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board says John Fleming became certified to fly the Cessna Citation 525 just three weeks before the Dec. 29 crash.

I understand why he search is ending, but it makes me so very sad.

RIP to all the lost lives.

Not at all, Betty!

And wow, Superior Beverage is a HUGE supplier (of beverages, obvs) here.

Plane crashes really weird me out and especially when it's a case where a whole family perishes together, whether a private plane or together on a commercial flight. Like one day there is this growing, young, vibrant family of four, two generations and then there is no one the next day leaving the surviving generations with what must be a giant hole and so much to overcome. :(

My guess is this could be related to the missing aircraft out of Burke Lakefront from January. As far as I know the remains of three of the six passengers were never recovered. But the location seems right to possibly be related.

you're right, here's an update:

Lake County Coroner said it is possible that the body is a potential victim of a Dec. 29 plane crash.

A Cessna Citation 525 disappeared shortly after takeoff from Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland around 10:45 p.m. Six people were on board, heading to the Ohio State University Airport in Columbus.

Pilot John P. Fleming, 46, his wife, Sue, their sons Jack and Andrew, neighbor Brian Casey and his daughter Megan were all killed in the crash.
