I --knew-- this guy did it. Just flat out -knew- it.

Couldn't be happier to see him charged.

Now, let's hope the trial puts him away for life.

Family Of Pregnant Mother Sues Doctor Accused In Her Murder, Others For $40 Million

"According to the lawsuit filed Monday, Cynthia Skoda, the executor of Deanna Ballman's estate, is suing
Dr. Ali Salim, the man charged in connection with Ballman's murder."

"Skoda, Ballman's sister, also is suing the Knox Community Hospital, Knox Emergency Services, Craigslist and others."

Everyday I lose a little more of something in me.... not sure what it is. But I have read of so very many monsters who just do the unthinkable. Where does it come from? What is missing from these humans that they do such cruel and painful things to others?

I hope this madman gets the maximum of whatever he can possibly get. And then I hope someone in prison draws HIS entrails and whatever all over his body.

Damn I'm turning into a monster too....

Thanks for the update. Do we know if this trial will have media accessing the courtroom? Live streaming?

There will be media there, but no live streaming. It's not a big enough case for that. And that's if this goes to trial - I wouldn't be surprised if they don't plead at the last minute.

There are three local television stations which would show coverage during their broadcasts and would have short clips available of trial proceedings on their website.

http://abc6onyourside.com/ (partnered with Fox in our area, so same coverage)

http://www.nbc4i.com/

Our local paper is http://www.dispatch.com. That said, don't hold out hope for great coverage. From what I've seen at my job, even for bigger news items, what's reported isn't always consistent with what occurs in the courtroom. Sometimes, the reporters are bouncing from courtroom to courtroom, and not even there listening to what's being said, which accounts for some accuracies. Other times, they sensationalize or leave out key things to make a better story. I've never seem them outright lie, but I've become increasingly disenchanted with the coverage as I've spent more time at the courthouse the past few years. Right now, I'd say ABC-6 is probably the most accurate, but I would wish for a more comprehensive account of things.

For additional info, to look up the court docket, you can go here. http://www.delawarecountyclerk.org/ All the pleadings are online, so you can see exactly what's been filed.

Judge Whitney is a solid judge and not someone I would term defendant-friendly. He's very fair, a former prosecutor, and he knows a lot about the law and procedure. He's not one to allow shady hijinks from either side, so if it does go to trial, I am curious to see how things play out.

The Columbus doctor accused of killing and raping a pregnant Pataskala mother took a plea deal with prosecutors this morning, pleading guilty to reduced charges of involuntary manslaughter.

Ali Salim, 44, of the North East Side, had been charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of 23-year-old Deanna Ballman and her unborn daughter. Salim was also charged with kidnapping, drugging and raping Ballman before he killed her, with abusing her corpse and with tampering with evidence.

Under the plea agreement reached with prosecutors, he pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and with abusing Ballman's corpse. He entered an Alford plea to the charge that he raped Ballman. An Alford plea means that Salim maintains his innocence, but concedes that the prosecution has enough evidence to convict him.

Sentencing is set for Dec. 20. Salim faces up to 37 years in prison.

nursebeeme beat me to it!

I have a feeling he will get the maximum sentence from Judge Whitney. Judge Whitney is not a fan of Alford pleas, from what I've heard.

I'm glad that he was caught and pled guilty, but I sure wish he was convicted of murder 1. Geez, you are supposed to be able to trust doctors. I'd be looking to see if this scum has any patients with odd, unexplainable and incurable ailments. I feel sorry for his patients out there knowing they were being treated by this guy, entrusting their health to him. JMO

I don't think he's that type of doctor. Reading between the lines of the news articles, he seems to be more of a pervert than anything. I wouldn't be surprised if the plea happened because Deanna's death was more of an accidental overdose type than anything intentional, but he was to blame because he was the one with the drugs. Wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't an addict too. The impression I've gotten from the other Craigslist responders too seems to point toward more sexual interest than murder, I think. :twocents:

I'm glad to hear there will be some Justice for Deanna and Mabel, and the Family.

As far as I'm concerned he murdered a young woman and a baby. He was a doctor who practiced medicine which scares me to even contemplate. He had already had other women to his house he scared. He had some kind of deviant compulsion to keep up the behavior.
I hope he gets the max with his plea. He was looking at 37 yrs. Can he still get that?
