8/1/19 Update: Next hearing on 8/28. 8/28/19: Daniel's attorneys showed concern in the pretrial hearing about the time they will be allotted to view the final autopsy result which has not been released by the Montgomery County Coroner’s office. They stated a motion to continue might be necessary. If that is the case, the Oct. 15 date will be moved to a later date by Kuhn if he deems necessary. Next hearing on 9/27.
9/27/19 Update: Trial has been moved to 1/6/20. No further info available.

8/1/19 Update: Jessica will undergo mental competency test. New charges of receiving stolen property charges added Thursday, Kuhn put in place a $10,000 cash surety bond for each defendant. Judge Kuhn set Aug. 28 as the next pretrial date for all charges against the Groves. As was reported previously, Kuhn scheduled a final pretrial in the cases for Sept. 27 with a jury trial set for Oct. 15.
8/28/19 Update: Jessica's attorneys filed a motion last month for a competency evaluation. The results have been sent to the court as well as attorneys in the case. Kuhn set Sept. 11 for the hearing on whether Groves will be found competent to stand trial. The Groves are set, for now, to have a four day jury trial beginning Oct. 15, however that could change depending on what the hearing concludes on Sept. 11. Has been moved to 9/24.
9/24/19 Update: Found competent to stand trial. County Prosecutor Shane Tieman reported a court-appointed criminal psychologist had found Groves competent to stand trial. During the subsequent hearing presided over by Judge Kuhn, Stratton stipulated to the findings of the psychiatrist and on behalf of his client, withdrew her plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. Stratton instead entered a standard plea of not guilty to the murder charge against Groves, as well as charges of receiving stolen property. Judge Kuhn entered the results of Jessica Groves’ psychiatric evaluation as an exhibit in the case but placed that evidence under seal, meaning it is not viewable by the public or media. The 5-day jury trial now is set for Jan. 6, 2020.

"Scioto County Children Services has been ordered by the state to submit a written corrective action plan within 30 days in connection after an administrative review found it badly mishandled the case of Dylan Groves, an infant boy in its legal custody whose body was later found dead in the bottom of a well. His parents await trial in his murder. The state review claims the county agency failed to follow numerous required procedures, but the agency’s director delivered a rebuttal defending her overloaded caseworkers....."

"Editor’s note: According to Scioto County Coroner’s Office clerk Amy Cox, with the permission of county prosecutor Shane Tieman, the Daily Times is the first local media outlet to receive a complete copy of the autopsy report on Dylan J. Groves, whose two-month-old body was allegedly found at the bottom of a 30 foot well near the home of his parents. The following article contains graphic detail from the report.

In the autopsy report completed by Susan L. Brown, deputy corner of the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, the second page reads “It is my opinion that the cause of death of Dylan J. Groves is: Homicidal violence of undetermined etiology.”..."

*Pretrial Hearing for both (@ 3:15pm CT) – OH – Dylan Groves (2 to 4 mos.) (Found in bottom of 30’ well, Otway, recovered June, 12, 2019; believed to have died in March, 2019) – *Daniel A. Groves (41) arrested (6/10/19), charged (5/20/19), indicted (6/11/19) & arraigned (6/12/19) with aggravated murder, murder, kidnapping/abduction, endangering children, tampering with evidence, interference with custody, gross abuse of a corpse & 4 counts of felonious assault. Plead not guilty. No bond.
Full autopsy reads in part. “The infant was concealed in two black and gray milk crates bound together by a chain with multiple (three) padlocks, multiple zip ties (12,) and multiple wires (eight.)” Brown states the milk crates were weighted with 18 rocks and an iron anchor-type weight all of which were secured around the infant, who was wrapped in numerous plastic bags and two blankets, all secured by multiple layers of duct tape. Autopsy report reads at one point, “toxicology analysis reveals the presence of methamphetamine and amphetamine, in liver.” the full autopsy outlines numerous alleged injuries, noting many of those injuries were received postmortem versus pre-mortem. Dylan allegedly suffered a skull fracture, his left arm broken in three places. His left leg also was broken. Brown reported fractures of two ribs and contusions of the right chest and left leg.
Trial was set to begin on 10/15/19, moved to 1/6/20. Jury trial scheduled for 5 days.
