New year brings no new leads in search for Harley Dilly

PORT CLINTON, Ohio (WJW) - 14-year-old Harley Dilly hasn't been seen in 12 days, and Port Clinton police say they don't have any new information to share on his disappearance.

The police department's New Year's Day update on their search asks people to continue sharing Harley's photo.

Harley was last seen walking to school on December 20.

Police say local, state and federal officials are involved in the search.

Authorities are urging citizens to come forward with any information or tips.

Area business owners are posting fliers and donating to a reward fund for help, that has grown to more than $7,000.

BBM:

I find the article's headline a little misleading in this respect:

LE stating they have no new information to share with the public at this time is not the same thing as saying they have "no new leads."

LE may very well have new leads they're following up on right now.

They just may not be sharing that info publicly.

This is in fact what I strongly suspect is the case right now, based on LE's tight-lipped stance.

I'm confident LE knows a whole lot more than we do, especially given the number of local, state and federal agencies involved in trying to locate HD.

JMO.

I hope you’re right.
I got the impression they’ve got nothing.

So many red flags with this family. JMO but what if HD had come back home on the Friday night after a day of bunking off school, but realised they were all out (25miles away at the restaurant) and that was the final straw of thinking they don’t care about him. And then he takes off for good.
I’m heartbroken for this kid.
Am praying LE have some info up their sleeve they’re not releasing which is why they believe him to be a runaway/ have national agencies involved.

Harley needs to be helped and supported so he doesn't end up like Bryce.
If it isn't already too late. Children shouldn't be taking care of their parents while they are still CHILDREN.

Teen football star Bryce Gowdy faced struggles before his suicide, family says

“I said, ‘Bryce, you have to dig within and fight these demons that you’re fighting.’ I told him I wasn’t strong enough to help him right now, and I have my own demons that I was trying to fight,” Winelle said in the video.

She said she told Gowdy to “get it together," “toughen up,” and that he needed to “get his mind right.” According to Winelle, he could see that he was upsetting her and tried to hold her hand.

------------------------------------------------------------

She eventually asked if he would fetch her favorite blanket from the car. Gowdy obliged, leaving his phone, wallet and shoes back in the hotel room.

He never came back.

This particular point is constantly on my mind. I really feel for him.

It seems so many runaways are between 12 and 15. This is such a difficult time and their emotions are extreme.

Causes for Running Away from Home
  • 47% of teen runaways reported that they were having a conflict with a parent or guardian.
  • Approximately 50% of teens reported that their parents kicked them out of the house or didn't care that they left.
  • 80% of youth reported sexual or physical abuse before running away.

Oh Harley, I hope you're ok, lil man.

I just read about Tanya Kach, made friends with a security guard at school at 14. He kidnapped her and kept her in his home, in the neighborhood, with his own family not knowing for 4 years.

It is possible he's being hidden, whether by choice I know not. But the more days that go by, I lose hope he'd be ok without some sort of assistance.

I also get the feeling he would have returned by now. But then, everyone has a breaking point and a first time for all things.

Praying hard today will be a day for a miracle.

Have they done any more searches recently? I looked up PC on google maps yesterday and there is a lot of water around there. I don't believe he has run away. I'm leaning towards something nefarious happened, or some kind of accident. I only recall one official search taking place , but I could be misremembering?

I also don't believe he was abducted by some stranger. He wasn't seen along his normal route to school that day....did he ever really leave for school? I mean, even if he did wander off in some other direction to skip school, I'd think he'd have been seen somewhere after he allegedly left home.

I wish we knew more information about the timeline. Who was home the night before he went missing, who all saw him that night and next morning, who was home during the day (so we could rule out whether or not he could have come home in the meantime and left again). So many questions.

Harley was one of the first thoughts on my mind when I woke up this morning. Where is he? ☹️

What I know from following the matter, second hand information :

He was at a friends house until 7 on Thursday night. They are the last non family member to see him. Dad works for a trash company so leaves early. My guess is mom and little brother were home in the morning. Mom posted about going to goodwill to donate things on Friday during the day. My understanding is that she is at home (does not work) but runs a page selling clothing.

Thanks! I have seen so very little about dad so that helps clear up some stuff I was wondering about too. And I take it Harley's little brother is too young for school then

I also have concerns about the details of the timeline
- who saw him last and where? Did the family from Thursday night see him leave at 7 or did he just wander off?
- did any family member see him on Friday morning or see him leave? Does he share a room? What was he wearing/ carrying?
- something has triggered him running away (if that’s what’s happened) maybe he discussed it with his friend the night before or seemed anxious.
I don’t want to cast aspersions but JMO they have ruled out the family home as an investigation very very swiftly. They must be confident he was there on Thursday night and then physically left the premises to go to school.
I don’t know or what to believe.

Today I'm increasingly worried about Harley. This has gone on too long, with no word or sightings of him, to be very optimistic that he's hiding out somewhere safe. I'm so afraid something bad has happened to him. A tragic accident, being picked up by a not good person, or anything could have happened to him. He's a child. I pray that today is the day he is found or at least some news of him. I hope LE knows more than what it seems. I'm really worried.

thank you for explaining. Makes sense. Harley being at a friends house the night before comes from police briefing. Mom donating to goodwill on Friday during the day comes from her own Facebook page. The rest is second hand info. Hope that helps.
