Another theory of mine is that she could have had a secret admirer in the neighborhood. Someone who was smitten with her, possibly a peeping tom who kept an eye on her and knew her routine. She may have spoken to this person a few times in the past and opened her door to him once she recognized him. In this scenario I can imagine her opening the door and even leaving the house for a minute if he was pretty clever and had a story lined up. That could work and might explain why she left without any of her personal belongings.

What if she took her dog out to go potty before bed and the perp grabbed her and put the dog in her room to shut it up and took off with her. I could see her taking her phone out to check texts messages while doggie did his/her thing but not keys or purse.
Katelyn - where are you?

Regarding the contradictions in JC's 911 call ... on Nancy Grace, he mentioned that he was with KM's dad when he called 911. In my mind, and assuming JC is innocent, this was the scenario that played out --

JC tries texting/calling KM on Sunday. No answer. So he drives by KM's townhome when she was supposed to be at work and sees her car there. Since she hadn't been answering his text messages, this makes him particularly worried. He rushed into her apartment to check on her -- perhaps to see if she's passed out, ill, whatever. Instead, she's gone, vanished.

Rather than jump to conclusions and call 911 right away, he contacts KM's dad and meets up with him to see if he knew where she was. When it's determined that the dad doesn't know KM's whereabouts, they probably checked in with others -- KM's co-workers, friends, etc., and finally, when they realize NO ONE knows where KM is, they decide to head back to KM's townhouse while calling the cops.

While JC's delivery may seem strange, he was probably panicking. When I panic, I know I don't communicate my best.

This is JMO, and under the assumption that JC is innocent (which I'm hoping he is).

Well, according to Meadows quote, we must not be the only ones reading Websleuths!

He's getting similar "disses" on the Katelyn Markham missing page (similar questions are being asked). I dunno if they (supporters) are on WS...

JC is just so freaking weird. If he isn't guilty then he has one of strangest speech delivery patterns that I've ever witnessed.

I'm going to watch the Nancy Grace program that I recorded but before I even get started I can't get past this panel of experts stating that he doesn't fit the psychological profile. Huh? Well, let's see here...she is engaged to the guy, he is the last one to have laid eyes on her, he is her last known text message recipient, and what are the statistics of women that go missing at the hands of a husband or boyfriend?

The statistics, when I researched them, don't really lead directly to an intimate partner. That's certainly a good place to start, but read this: 1/3 of women murdered in the US are murdered by their intimate partner. That leaves it more likely a woman is murdered by someone other than an intimate partner.

I know it seems like it's always the boyfriend or husband, but it usually isn't.

This guy seems completely innocent to me.

If you have a court order, you can get transcripts of text messages and a copy of calls made/recieved. Hopefully LE found clues by reading them.

Wow. I would have guessed that number to have been much higher than a third. Wow!

I do like that posters theory of her taking the dog for a walk. I would imagine that JC would know the answer to that one...as to whether or not the dog had taken a leak while he was there at the townhome or not.

JC mentions Katelyn was going to move. I would be very interested in knowing where she was going to move. Was she going to move in with her dad and his gf? On her own? With a friend?

The burning of the documents sounded like she was cleaning up in preparation. Not sure why JC would say Katelyn wanted to be there for the burning? That made no sense to me considering she's the one who asked him to do it to begin with on that same day?

She was supposedly moving to Colorado in November. JC did mention that she was a planner so it doesn't surprise me that she would be already planning for that move in August.

Or how about going out to look for her cat if it was in fact an outside cat? With a looming thunderstorm she may have wanted it to come indoors. We haven't heard if it was found inside the home yet.

I suppose if you factor in women that are murdered in gang related violence, or drug deals gone bad that the number would come down?

JC said she was in bed when he left her so something compelled her to get out of bed and leave the house. So what was it?

Either she opened the door to someone she knew or JC accidentally left the door unlocked and someone slipped in after he left.

I don't buy into the theory that she left town due to stress in order to start a new life. You need a large sum of money to start fresh somewhere else and I doubt she would have left her vehicle behind because transportation would be critical. She was weeks away from graduation - something she had worked her butt off to achieve and imagining her just throwing that all away is highly unlikely.

I followed that case. Amy left her purse at home. She did not have a cell phone. The door to her house was locked.

Thanks ChasingHalos. For everyone else, a brief recap: Most folks thought initially it was her husband as he didn't seem outwardly upset. It turned out that it was her husband's cousin who came and picked her up. They went to a property of his and he shot both Amy and his girlfriend and buried them there. Junior Beebee was just convicted a few weeks ago for both murders.

I don't recall him saying she was in bed when he left. I thought I read somewhere that he said she was sitting on her bed but not actually in bed for the night.

I've seen and heard of people leaving town with nothing, not even their auto. Happens all the time.

Just 2 for reference.

Years ago I thought this sort of thing would take gobs of money and intelligence. After years of searching for Brian Shaffer and reading these stories, I've found it takes neither.

I wonder if LE has checked the site of the paper burning--the fire pit, barbecue, fireplace or whatever the papers were burned in?

I've read a lot about this case, but I am unclear about the burned papers. When and how did this come out? Did he volunteer this information or did witness bring it up?

After watching NG last night I'm still confused about the "picture of a picture" that was sent.

CARTER: I`m sorry. Here`s what the situation was. She had actually sent -- after I had left her house, she had actually sent me a couple of actual text messages about things that she wanted me to do to help her out because she had to work and go to school so much. Then -- she normally sends me pictures of things. Her boss at her internship is a really good photographer, and he took some pictures of her that were really, really good and she wanted to show them to me. And that was one of them.

GRACE: OK, I`ve got a question.

CARTER: It was one of the pictures that he had taken.

GRACE: I got a question, John Carter. You were just there in the townhome with her. Why didn`t she just show you the pictures? Why did she text you a picture of a picture?

CARTER: I mean, I don`t know. They were up in her room. You know, she just -- she likes to send me pictures all the time. She always has.

When reading this, it appears that the pictures were hard copy photos that were up in her room and that she took a picture of one of the hard copy photos to send. I was always under the impression that the pictures were on her phone and were sent to her by her boss.

If they were hard copy photos in her room, what does this mean? That she was in her room alone at the time she sent that text? I don't recall there being any talk of sending in forensics to see if anyone else was in her room.

JC stated that Katelyn had given him a bunch of personal papers to burn for her that evening. He did, according to him, go to a friend's house and burn them. They didn't have a shredder, and burning is permissible where they live, apparently. They were school papers and stuff (I'm assuming maybe pay stubs, bank account statements, etc) that she just didn't want anyone else to see.

Since there was a rainstorm that night, it would have been an odd time for a bonfire (outdoors, anyway). I just wondered if the police checked it out.

Think about your circle of friends. What if you appeared at the home of one of your friends and ask to use their fire pit in order to burn some trash. How do you think they would react? Better yet, unless it was an emergency of some kind, would your friend appreciate it if you showed up at their home at midnight and then ask permission to burn trash?
