Surprise. ETA Who's paying for him now?
It's still the same legal team, Parker & Nash. Not sure if the state pays for the same team, since he didn't receive the death penalty. Could be they're doing it pro bono. No idea really.
This shows all the instances when the state public defender can provide legal representation to indigent or incarcerated persons. IANAL, not sure how or if these thing apply. Could be that their claim that he needs a new trial still allows Parker & Nash to be paid by the state/county.

(3) The state public defender may provide legal representation to any person incarcerated in any correctional institution of the state, in any matter in which the person asserts the person is unlawfully imprisoned or detained.
(4) The state public defender, in any case in which the state public defender has provided legal representation or is requested to do so by a county public defender or joint county public defender, may provide legal representation on appeal.
