Although "Buckskin Girl" has been positively identified as Marcia King, her murder remains an unsolved open case. Here is a photo of Marcia wearing the same buckskin jacket she was wearing when she died:

So... I went to look at her family tree in family search dot org. Seems like they go out of their way in these reports to avoid mentioning her real mother's name. Has anybody found it?

I apologize, but I'm not sure what you mean by real mother. Do you mean her mother, not her stepmother? If you mean her bio mom, last I knew, unless something happened recently, she's still alive, so I don't believe she'd be on any trees yet.
Not sure what you mean by reports, though, sorry.

''For 37 years, the young woman remained nameless. She was known only as “Buckskin girl” for the leather poncho she wore when she was found, strangled, in an Ohio ditch in 1981.
That was until almost four decades later, when two women in California took up her case. In 2018, Margaret Press, a retired linguist, author and computer programmer, and Colleen Fitzpatrick, a nuclear physicist and forensic genealogist, ran DNA evidence from the crime scene through an ancestry database, looking for the victim’s closest relatives.
Four hours later, they had a match.''

''But almost as soon as the identity is revealed and humanity is restored, there comes a poignant realization.
“It’s the moment when they get lifted up off the page and they’re a walking, talking person – except, suddenly, they’re not,” Press says.
“We see them for an instant, and then they’re dead.”

Apologies in advance for the long post. I'm just putting some of my thoughts out there! I'm not sure if anybody has seen the autopsy photos of Marcia online. There are 2 readily available photos showing her face (I don't want to post them here in-case it breaches the rules). There appear to be 3 distinct injuries to her head. There is a wound above her left eye just on her hairline, another in the centre (again, on her hairline), and then a larger wound slightly lower down and above her right eye. I suspect the larger wound is actually a collection of up to 4 separate injuries. There are a few things that struck me about these images:

1 - I find it odd how central the injuries are. Had she been attacked from a few feet away with a longer implement and the offender was trying to beat her with it, it is likely that the injuries would have been more to the side of her head as she turned away. Similarly, if the offender was up close and attacking her whilst she was on the ground, for example, her natural instinct would have been to turn her head away from the incoming blow. She can't have done this. There are no obvious injuries to the side of her head or face. I think it's possible that the offender beat her as he was strangling her, or whilst she was unconscious.

2 - In addition to the cuts, there are significant marks on her forehead. Some of this will likely be hypostasis (blood pooling) that occurred post mortem given that she was found on her right hand side in the foetal position, so the blood would have settled primarily on her right side. However, I think some of it is bruising - there are clearly marks and discolouration on the left side of her head. Is it possible that she was beaten with a fist? This would likely cause the bruising but would not necessarily cause open wounds.

3 - The cuts that were caused seem to be very small and quite uniform. I'm struggling to think of such a small, handheld implement that would cause such injuries. I wonder if a fist, containing a ring, would cause those injuries? These don't seem to be the large/uneven type of injuries one would see with an implement such as a rock or a bat etc.

4 - Apparently she also suffered a lacerated liver. This can be caused with high impact blunt force trauma injuries, often where the liver impacts the chest wall, and can be seen with high speed car accidents. The force used to lacerate her liver must have been significant, and could easily have been caused with a fist.

5 - Unless there are significant injuries that are not in the public domain, from looking at hear head and also the lacerated liver, it seems the majority of the injuries are on her right side. Almost as if the offender has pinned her down and is beating her from above as he's immobilising her by strangling her - she's struggling, so he beats her to prevent this. If he's beating her primarily on her left side then it stands to reason that the offender would be left-handed (otherwise the impacts would likely be more on her right side).

Again, I'm just wanting to bump this thread and get my thoughts out there. It would be really interesting to hear what anybody else thinks about the above, however!

It's been a couple of years, but I spoke to the detective a while ago. What I recall, based on what he said, was that the lividity in her back suggested she was deceased before being left where she was found, and her body had been transported on her back for a distance before being dumped. And the most likely reason she was dumped where she was because there is a steep hill not too far from where she was left that semi's have a difficult time getting over, suggesting she was transported by truck, the driver found they couldn't get up over the hill, backtracked, and left her there while turning around. I'm going from memory, so please forgive me for the vagueness and possible misuse of terms.

Interesting - so the lividity/hypostasis was present in her back suggesting she had been lying in that position for some time after death and was then thrown from the truck/placed down the ditch and rolled onto her side. I'm curious, did he say where the hill was? Because on Google maps everything looks pretty flat in and around the road in question, but I've also seen mention of a steep hill elsewhere.

Just wondering what the general consensus is on the unsolved so called "Dr. No" murders and any possible link to Marcia's case?

Below are some of the similarities to Marcia's case:
- Victims all in their late teens/20s (one was 31yrs)
- Victims generally abducted/located in Ohio
- The victims were generally working as sex-workers in truck stops along Interstate 71. Whilst Marcia wasn't, we do know she hitchhiked using truckers, so it's not impossible for a killer to mistake her for a sex-worker if she was at a truck stop.
- I-71 is only around 1hr12 mins drive from where Marcia was found
- The victims were generally beaten with a blunt object and strangled
- Shoes/socks were missing from some of the victims
- They were killed and then disposed of at a different location

Yes, it was present, according to the detective. I wasn't able to find the hill on Google maps, either, after he said that, because it looked really flat to me. But since he was familiar with the area, I just took his word for it.
