As I recall (I'm not sure exactly where it was stated), her bare feet were clean. That is to say, she had not been walking barefoot outside prior to her death.

Just instinctually when I hear that her feet were totally clean it makes me think that she took her shoes off in the car to relax, seems unlikely she'd do that with a stranger, rather, more likely her boyfriend & he killed her in the car. I guess the shoes and her bag/whatever she had with her could've been a trophy for a serial killer to but how uncommon is it for serial killers to not rape their female victims?

I don't see her as a SK victim. I think its more likely she was killed by someone she knew. (at least for a little while)

I don't think it was a serial killer, either. I'm leaning toward DV or at least someone who knew her.

The killer could have taken her shoes off.

Possibly but it's strange that he didn't rape her; usually that's a huge part of the motive for random perps that do this if not THE motive. Also, apparently usually truckers/serial killers along the highway will dump bodies right by the highway. Buckskin was supposedly found on a road off of the highway, pretty out of the way & I've seen a few people who live in the area mention that it's a very odd place to dump a body.

When did dna test become big? Would he have known if his dna was on shoes or was it not entirely main stream yet (dna testing). Otherwise her in car taking off shoes makes sense. Or being in socks

DNA testing was in its infancy.

Many truck drivers are fussy about keeping their cabs clean and will ask you to remove your shoes as soon as you get in.

That's true but generally truckers that kill prostitutes or hitchhikers will just dump them on the side of the highway, not some off-road.

DNA was first used in a criminal prosecution for the conviction of Colin Pitchfork for two rape-murders in the English Midlands in 1987/88, the technique only being developed in 1985 so it was not available when BG was murdered.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colin_Pitchfork

However the techniques available at the time required large samples of DNA which limited its early usefulness. It became more useful, and commonplace, in the 1990s when methods were developed to amplify smaller samples into usable ones.

Agree. And she had facial and head trauma in addition to strangulation. It seems more likely she was knocked around somewhere else with hard surfaces to cause those injuries. Those involved in the case are nearly positive she's not from anywhere near where she was found. Wonder if they were at motel or hotel anywhere close off of I-75 and whoever did this drove a little way to an exit to dump her. Either the person wanted her boots/shoes or they could be traced to her with some effort.

Or possibly she was carried shoeless to a vehicle after being murdered

Maybe the killer was local and knew the area. Met her somewhere as she was passing through. Was there ever mention of objects that may have caused her head trauma. Like being hit with a particular type of object or just being knocked?around in a room against walls or furniture.

I hope they'll give priority to the old cases, those where all other avenues so far have been exhausted and where there might still be elderly parents or aging siblings wondering what happened and for whom time is running out. There are so many of them outstanding from the 1970s and 1980s.

Just catching up with Buckskin Girl after not checking in for a while. Also not following many cases. Glad to hear her DNA will be tested. Can someone familiar with her case being accepted post what all Doe Network does? Will it only be to compare her to their network or is there a wider search? If she's identified will it lead to investigating who is responsible for her death? Or looking for fibers and DNA on her clothing? There must be some as she surely was physically picked up and placed where she was found.
Or post a link to how these cases are handled?
Thanks!!

Are you asking about the DNA Doe Project or something else? The DNA Doe Project takes Does' DNA samples, often from blood, gets them sequenced and then uploads the results in GEDMatch, all with the cooperation of that Doe's agency and coroner. It wouldn't be DNA from clothing, it would be from blood, teeth or bone. Generally blood, teeth and bone (or one of the above) is kept by the coroner after a Doe is discovered and processed. DNA Doe Project then compare the Doe's DNA profile with others in the GEDMatch DNA database and attempts to construct their family tree from there. People can get their DNA results from a company like 23andme or Ancestry and upload the results on GEDMatch to get more information about their DNA, help adoptees find birth parents or aid in the identification of Does.
If Buckskin identified then yes, I imagine law enforcement will try to leverage her identity into finding out who killed her. All of her DNA results will be in the hands of law enforcement.

Thanks leilarose68 the information you provided was what I was wondering. I wondered basically if she would only be compared with unidentified missing. I guess it was more than one question. I was wondering also if her belongings that were kept would then be looked at for DNA that was not hers or if it would even survive all this time as normally DNA decays rapidly if exposed to the elements and not stored under ideal conditions.

Amazing news!!!!! DNA Doe Project is taking on Buckskin Girl as their next case and the agency (meaning the LE agency) provided the funds themselves! DNA Sequencing is just beginning and should be done by mid-April, as per the latest post on their official facebook page:

Yes this is wonderful news. Let's keep fingers crossed and hope it brings findings and I agree with you all that they should give attention to older cases like our Buckskin and Walker Jane.

No, her DNA will be compared with regular people of the general population who decided to upload their DNA test results to GEDMatch.

Is there any info on if this was a two way road? I'm wondering which side she was found on - this could be a clue to where she was coming from.

This video shows the road she was found on in the interview footage with the man who found her & the detectives. It appears to be a two way street, based on the yellow line.
