Do we know if he stopped cooperating? I am assuming so, not that he has a public defender, but not sure. Also, was the charge today for kidnapping and nothing else yet?

The bags are reportedly taped up and accompanied by a silver-and-black tarp at the edge of a wooded area.

I have only ever seen solid coloured tarps in blue, orange, or black. Is a double-coloured one unusual? Either way, it should be easy for LE to check if these colours match the tarp purchased by MH. It would be great to have confirmation or denial about a match.

Anyone able to get anything on WBNS 10TV Live News? It's dark for me.

iirc the news conf. for today was set for an hour later than yesterday, but don't bank on it, lol

I found one on walmart, it says reversable. Maybe for rain or sun? It looks silver on one side and black on other if you click on pic for closer look.

Not saying this is the exact one, but I have seen many just like it at Walmart and Home Depot....

Hi, JLM! Fancy meeting you here! :woohoo:

Thanks! I guess I've led a sheltered tarp life. Still, might it not be an interesting coincidence if the found tarp matched the one bought by MH? I really hope that there's a break in this case soon.

Does anyone find it unusual that the general public is doing a lot of the searching on this case? Most of the recent cases taht I have followed have been pretty clear that they did not want any general public searching, outside of normal activities. I keep seeing people posting on FB about searches, both organized and not and am wondering if LE is accepting of this.

I don't, there are vast rural wooded areas all around here.

Hoffman's mother said her son occasionally had mail sent to her address but he has not lived at her home in two years.

She described her son as a "loner" and that she last saw him on Nov. 7, four days before investigators believe he abducted Maynard.

State records showed Hoffman was on parole supervision until October, Aker reported

Matthew Hoffman, 30, appeared at a video arraignment conference this afternoon where Mount Vernon Municipal Court Judge Paul Spurgeon denied his attorney’s request for lighter bail or a 10-percent provision. Hoffman, clad in a black suicide gown, sat silent as Knox County Public Defender Bruce Malek argued for a lower bond.

Hoffman, a 1999 graduate of the Knox County Career Center and East Knox High School, has both business and personal ties to the community, Malek said. He owns his home at 49 Columbus Rd. where 13-year-old Sarah Maynard was found bound and gagged in the basement Sunday morning.

Hoffman has been charged with a first-degree felony count of kidnapping.

Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher argued that Hoffman’s prior conviction for an arson fire that destroyed four condominiums in Colorado 10 years ago, coupled with his sporadic employment situation and violent past, all indicate a high likelihood that Hofman would flee if released on bail.

Hoffman’s parents, Thatcher said, paid for his $30,000 home on Columbus Road.

Spurgeon scheduled a preliminary hearing for next Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. to determine if there is probable cause to continue holding Hoffman on a felony charge. The case will be presented to a Knox County grand jury at a later date.

I used to work as a roofer and we used black and silver tarps often. They are very common. The black and silver tarps are usually stronger and designed for use under continuous outdoor exposure.

Hey, Nurse...
I was wondering if you found any hard times for when MH was in court today? PDF format, or legal work of any sort. Was going to see if Lemonmoon could work with the information.

TY!

We were talking about him possibly not being able to carry out a grown adult female. Sorry, but the looks of this picture alone makes me think otherwise.

He doesn't look that scrawny... at all.

Remember, one woman is 5'6 around 120 pounds, the other is 5'3 and 110. I don't think either woman would be a problem for him.

I was wondering too if there were other charges since the bond was so high but it appears the only charge is kidnapping so far. Also, it looks like the court assigned him an interim public defender pending eligibility verification.
