That was later. The initial charge was DUI. Again, what evidence did they have of DUI. Here's a excerpt from the press.

"Investigators, in consultation with the Payne County District Attorney’s Office, decided on Sunday to file an affidavit charging Chambers with four counts of second degree murder, said Cpt. Kyle Gibbs, a spokesman for the Stillwater Police Department. The charges are in addition to the initial charge of driving under the influence (DUI)."

At the press conference the Police Chief said that they had probable cause for arresting her for driving while intoxicated. The additional charges would seem to come from new information.

When asked by a reporter whether the 25-year-old Chambers was "obviously intoxicated," Gibbs said, "Certainly probable cause for the arrest, yes sir."

3 killed, 34 hurt when car hits crowd at Oklahoma State parade

She is due in court today. I really don't think there is any suggestion she had any head injury.

thats why i said i was just discussing head injuries in general, who knows if it has anything to do with this case, i certainly didnt suggest it. but the fact that someone was not hospitalized would not be an indicator that they had not suffered a head injury including a possibly bad concussion, that was the point.

What time is AC's court appearance today? Any word on whether it will be shown on CNN or local live stream?

OSU Parade Crash Suspect's Lawyer Says She May Be Mentally Ill

by Elisha Fieldstadt

The lawyer representing the woman charged with four counts of second-degree murder after she plowed through a crowd of people at Oklahoma State University's homecoming parade said Sunday he doesn't believe his client was intoxicated — but that she has showed "warning signs" of a mental illness.

Adacia Chambers, 25, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence Saturday after she plowed through revelers on the sidelines of the Stillwater event, killing four and injuring dozens more. The second-degree murder counts were added Sunday, Stillwater police said...

Attorney seems pretty sure of his "diagnosis" If emergency room personnel didn't request a psych evaluation prior to discharging AC, they obviously didn't think the young woman suffered from mental illness.

I hope today's hearing clears up some of our questions...

JMO...

I really hate the "mental illness" defense and it is not doing her justice IMO for her lawyer to be flailing that around the media. It's not getting her sympathy for sure. The whole case is sad and bizarre. I can't fathom how someone can go to work, leave, and go plow down innocent people. It just doesn't make sense. To me drugs or a medical condition could be a possibility.

Has anyone other than AC's attorney suggested mental illness? Her father didn't mention it when he was interviewed yesterday, nor did AC's employer allude to any type of mental defect.

No. No one else, from what I've read. She's shy, reserved, not a partyer or a drinker, good employee, etc.

I've never heard a lawyer come out and say mental illness before filing a response to the charges, for example not guilty by reason of insanity or what ever it's called. I've also never seen them charge someone right away, with murder. I'm shocked to be honest with the murder charge. They must have some evidence to indicate she did this on purpose. Isn't the charge usually vehicular manslaughter?

ITA. Lawyer met her for an hour. He isn't qualified to diagnose her. He also doesn't know if she took drugs or not.

Will they have the blood test results in for this?

He probably already has the results of the blood tests. What if they are negative? Should he continue with a drug defense anyway? Even with no evidence?

How would he have them and LE wouldn't? Seriously? LE took her to the hospital to get her blood. Tests would come back to them, not to him. They will share the results with the defense.

Thinking about the two yr old just kills me. :rose:

Her lawyer's "evidence" for mental illness: family says she hadn't been sleeping well and had been anxious; Atty says she had no response when told she'd killed 4 people and injured many more.

He's doing what he's supposed to be doing as a defense Atty no doubt, but so far that's an awfully thin ( non existent) basis to claim mental illness.

I don't even know what to say but this lawyer has declared himself wise enough to know both the law and medicine now, so we'll see how it goes for his client. If that is ALL that she's done to demonstrate mental illness, then he must think 80% of the population are also mentally ill.
