Town crier: "4:30 CT and no further MSM, 4:30 CT and no further MSM." (Rings bell.)

Can we/shall we add Daryn's boss calling his dad to say he hadnt showed up on the Monday or Tuesday to the timeline, Steadfast? :)

I'm sorry. I just had this vision of wfgodot (bearing a remarkable resemblance to Ben Franklin and wearing "Ben Franklinish" clothes) stepping outside his digs, ringing that bell and making that announcement.

So now not only will wfgodot's neighbors not eat the cookies he presents to them, they run inside and slam their doors when they see him coming! :floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

Thanks. I needed that!!!

I'm a little skittish about the 3rd person reporting. That's why I don't have Daryn driving his brother back to Del City for a backpack -- it came through a third party, not through LE, MSM, or someone who was there. It starts getting into the territory of rumor. Even if the stepmom posts that it happened, she only knows because someone else told her. On the other hand, I don't look at it as MY timeline. What do folks think?

Just another thing to think about:

I had some friends who were into the Ren fairs. I mean INTO. not just as a casual visitor. And it is pretty normal for them to meet people at these events and make an insta-friend. As an overly cautious person, it freaked me out to hear that they would up and go stay with one of these people (romantically or as a friend) that they had only known for a few hours. I wonder if Daryn meet someone at the Ren Faire, and they exchanged numbers or whatnot. After all the wedding stuff, they met up and ???. This is along the lines of a cyber furry friend hook up.

At this point, if this was a carjacking/robbery gone wrong- I think someone either needed to get to OR, or needed to RUN after hurting Daryn. Unless Daryn went voluntarily, there is no way you keep a 6ft tall 200 lb + hostage with you for days for a 24+ hour drive.

I think the front license plate was never on the car. It was a newer car and the plate might not ever been put on. There is no reason to take one off because it just makes the car more likely to attract notice when parked at a trailhead.
Out of state tags are a dime a dozen at places like Mt. Hood- where people from all over come to hike. JMO.

Also, if this was a carjacking I believe it was largely unplanned. 1. you don't want to hang onto a hot car for very long and 2. you don't run out of gas and leave yourself in a precarious position. JMO

Here is a link to an older Vanity Fair article on Furries:

http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2001/03/furries200103

Hey Jade...Thanks for that link! Interesting stuff about the Furries and "The Pleasures of the Fur!"

From the intro to that article:

"Welcome to the world of “furries”: the thousands of Americans who’ve gotten in touch with their inner raccoon, or wolf, or fox. Judging from the Midwest FurFest, this is no hobby. It’s sex; it’s religion; it’s a whole new way of life."

But there was a license plate found under the seat...... Do you think it was a "Dealer Tag" plate that should have been in the back window when showing this car before it was sold? You know, like when you take a car for a test drive at the auto dealer, they have to put a temporary metal tag in the back window?
That tag could easily be an Oklahoma tag, if the car was purchased through a dealer in Oklahoma and just forgot to be taken out? In My Opinion......

Awesome! I know there's been some checking of some video, but this map could really help the family. Do you mind if I pass it on to them, Portabella? And if it's not too much trouble, I'd say yes, please go ahead and add the hours, maybe in another post? That would certainly help a family already burdened with way too many details and tasks. Awesome (again)! (Make that two chocolate chip cookies! lol)
You might check to see if some of these stations or rest stops would allow you to fax a missing person poster for them to post. I know there are many good truckers out there who keep an eye open for missing people.

I'm a newbie here and I found this case really intriguing so I thought I'd contribute.

I haven't seen any posts here showing a map of the exact location where the vehicle was found. After some careful research, I think that I've located the spot:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=45.4109,-121.5706%20(Zig_Zag_Trailhead)

Here is more information on the Zig Zag Trail:

http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5422365.pdf

The vehicle had been backed up to an embankment in a trail parking area about 15 to 20 feet from the road (Highway 35) near the head of the Zig-Zag Trail which leads to the Dawn River Trail to the Surveyor's Bridge Trail.

The names of the trails above are inaccurate. Dawn River Trail is actually "Dog River Trail" and Surveyor's Bridge Trail is "Surveyor's Ridge Trail".

Do people even carjack 6-year-old, orange Dodge Nitros? Not a popular car to steal and not a good choice for stealth driving.

MM, I wondered that myself. Among the legally-worded explanations, I found one which I will paraphrase:

Because the people of Oregon and New Jersey do not trust people to not blow themselves up! lol Probably a lot of truth in that explanation!

LOL...I did enjoy throwing this new learned info out at work today.

Older laws from 1949 & 1951...before improved technology. They have held up despite being challenged.

Btw...before reading the link below, I had never thought how inconvenient self-service pumps are for the disabled.

Unless maybe they were going to haul other stuff back with them?? Like a bike? Or maybe it was a crime of opportunity? Although the color, well, that stands out! And the Dodge Nitro? That stands out.....
Really carjacking that color and that kind of a car is just asking to get caught....but yet, they didn't get caught....

Bbm

That's one of the reasons I think it wasn't a car jacking. But then, everyone's arguments are very compelling at this stage, even though they're all different!

Is it my understanding that a front plate was taken off leaving the back plate on, and the car just backed up to the trailhead, so it would have a back license plate, but not one in the front? Are Oklahoma residents required to have a front plate and a back plate?
If so, and only the front was taken off, but the back was left on, maybe they did not want it to look out of the ordinary? (Unless Oregon requires both front and back plates, too? So someone would notice the car doesn't have a front plate, thinking it was an Oregon car?)

Oklahoma only requires back plates. That's why the plate taken off the front confuses me.

I am catching up on the threads. I apologize if I answer anything that has been answered before.

I thought the same thing. I have a friend from years back, who travels around to these fairs in costume, and participates in them. He has told some tales that I choose to forget. Like minds and all that I guess...
But I keep going back to the car in my mind. I wonder about the parking and the gas but I also wonder if it was backed in to look more "parked". If you haphazardly drove into that area, like you pull over due to no gas, and left the car looking all out of place, it would draw attention. Neatly backed up would cause less concern or notice???
