I live in the area and went out to search with volunteers on Christmas Day. So many rumors are flying around it's unreal.

What I'm really confused about is her mom saying they (Allyson and boyfriend) took off in "their car" whose car? Are we to assume this is the "stolen truck"? Or are we supposed to believe that they took off in a random car, that car broke down and he stole another car? It makes no sense.

I wonder when she met him. She just got off a year of probation for theft in June of this years. OREGON JUDICIAL DEPARTMENT - Online Records Search (use her name in search engine then click on case number for details). Probation comes with it some conditions about an association with known criminals. Did she just not know his background? I hope she is found. Her family loves her and misses her.
In one of the articles I linked in an earlier post, it said they have known each other for years but have just recently started dating.

Sounds like "clues" might be leading to a different area entirely.
From the Oregon Live comment section.
"Tracking k-9 will be working in an area nowhere near the original location tomorrow morning.
For the naysayers... it'll be SAR k9 153."

IMO, the guy was tweaked out so anything could have happened. He was found sleeping in some one elses car and the car owner found him and drove him home, JMO
This even seems odd to me! If a stranger was sleeping in my car/truck at my home, I would call the Police! I wouldn’t have them get in to my car and then I drive a stranger home!?

many cellphones can place calls to 911 without a SIM card. so, perhaps that phone allyson has is able to do that. what LE needs to know though is what the phone identifies itself as when it pings the tower. i think that is why LE is trying to find the person who gave the phone to allysons mom. so they can learn which carrier the phone came from and maybe learn the phones ID.

sleuthers, if you found a guy sleeping in the back of your truck in the morning, would you drive him home? seems unusual, IMO.

What if you knew him? Or if he apologised immediately and told you he was in an accident the night before and just took shelter in the truck to avoid freezing to death?

It sounds like LE know the story so far is a lie. I am now very concerned for Allyson. What remains true is he was stranded out there that night and had to take shelter in the man's truck.
I think the lie about hiking was Ben preemptively trying to explain evidence, like muddy shoes, scratches, and the eventual discovery of Allyson out in the woods. For the searchers on this thread, can you share approximately how far apart the vehicle he was found in was from the stolen vehicle?

No evidence Allyson Watterson was hiking in North Plains, deputies now say

As the Washington County Sheriff’s Office announced a dramatic shift in the report of events leading up to Allyson Watterson’s disappearance, deputies acknowledged their emerging concerns about the timeline since the 20-year-old woman disappeared.

He added that while search and rescue crews are continuing to search in the same area, off Old Pumpkin Ridge Road in North Plains, the time delay meant that Watterson could no longer be in the area.

At a news conference Friday afternoon, Washington County Detective Mark Povolny said there had been a 30-hour delay between the time Watterson was last seen and the time she was reported missing.

“That’s concerning to us," Povolny said. “We’re trying to put together what happened during that time.”

Yes, and soaking wet! Did it rain that night?
"Soaking Wet"
Would the evaluation of those wet clothes be helpful for reference as to where they were soaked .
Perhaps a lake that can be identified by the contents found on his cloths even if they were dried.
The owner of the car he was found in should know what he was wearing and perhaps there is evidence to be found in his car, like dried mud, leaves, plants particles.
Seems like a good place to start, eh?

In Oregon, unlawful use of a weapon is a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison. (ORS 166.220) You can be charged with this crime if:
(1)You use a weapon against someone or carry it with the INTENT to use it against someone (so technically he might have only been carrying the weapon to use later against someone, perhaps in the commission of a robbery or other crime)
(2)You discharge a weapon at a person or an object within range of the weapon in a municipality. (There are some exceptions to this provision.)
The law applies not just to guns, but also other weapons such as bows and arrows, blow guns, crossbows and explosive weapons.

I am local living about 10 miles from where she was missing and here to sort of tell you what it is like here. First off, the whole hiking thing was not realistic story. There are no hiking trails where they are looking. Lots, lots, and lots of trails to the west, to the east, and to the south of the North Plains area, but North Plains is known for pumpkin farms, Christmas tree farms, and some horse farms. It is NOT known for any trails for you to go park a car and go hiking. And believe me, us Oregonians love to hike. My family actually was in North Plains getting a Christmas tree day after Thanksgiving this year. What is known in the area is that people on drugs are stealing cars, then going to houses to steal packages from porches and break into houses that they believe to be empty for the holidays. My phone gets a lot of neighborhood alerts where someone has the Ring and packages are being taken at midnight or almost every night someone gets a doorbell rung at midnight and video shows a stranger in a hoodie trying to open their door! We have the Ring and we get notices on our phone on any activity on our porch, so we could be halfway across the country and get these. So local police on this case are asking for neighbors to share any Ring videos they might have of someone ringing their doorbell or knocking at midnight.

Also, local police have asked about if anyone has info about her mom getting a phone from someone at Reedville Café. I have been to this restaurant many times. It is nowhere near where Allyson was missing, so feel that it is the phone itself police are trying to get info on, maybe mom gave it to Allyson and police want to use that info to track it. I will say that Reedville Cafe' is a nice, homestyle, family restaurant where you show up and get seated by a hostess. Upkeep is very nice and it's not a bar where someone would bump into someone and just ask to buy a phone from a stranger. I'm saying this because I want to put out there that the police is asking to find out who "gave" the phone to the mom -- not borrowed, not bought. This is not a place where you would randomly show up and hope to get a phone from someone. If this happened, it was most likely a situation where mom arranged to meet someone to buy it from them, maybe craigslist and then they would have most likely met out in parking lot and not inside. The inside has a very small waiting area, but a large parking area. It's location on TV highway is sort of a local landmark for giving directions in the area.

Also, to help readers here, this is same terrain and not too far from where Kyron Horman was and is still missing from 2010. There were searchers in this area, so if you remember seeing any photos or videos from this highly publicized case back then, this is same terrain. My kids were supposed to go to same school as Kyron, but we elected Catholic school instead. That case was way too close to home and even the Christmas tree farm that we go to in North Plains has had a missing poster for Kyron on their cashier's shed up until last year..

Thank you for the info. Can you tell us what the local sentiment is like about this case? Are most people aware that she is missing?

My adult kids live in Oregon and most of the people that I have met out there would totally give a stranger a ride after they found him sleeping in the car. There’s a lot of lost souls out there finding themselves and some are for sure nomads. The people I met were more accepting and willing to help a stranger in trouble than in my state of NC.

I would say yes. Everyone I've come into contact with out and about knows "a girl is missing". I stopped into a convenience store that is close to North Plains last night and everyone was talking about the case inside. The cashier was telling people information about the "clue" that was found that led LE to ask volunteers not to come back and search, but of course, that is just a rumor not sure it would help to say exactly what it was.

Most are very sympathetic and want to help in any way they can.

Search for Allyson Watterson enters 5th day
[…]

The search is set to continue on Saturday after teams of professional searchers from Multnomah, Clackamas and Columbia counties joined the Washington County Search and Rescue team in North Plains on Friday. On its fourth day, most of the search was focused on private property instead of public hiking areas.

The search switched to solely using trained personnel after 3 days utilizing volunteers. The searchers are finding clues, but Deputy Tony Morris, the incident search commander, has declined to share what those clues were multiple times.

“I don’t want to expound on what we’re finding,” he said. Civilian volunteers should not go into the search area, he said, and reminded people not to pay attention to what is being said on social media.
