RE the phone only being wifi - I see on tv a commercial for comcast that shows what phones try to connect to a wifi. Perhaps they have some device (like Stingray's are for cell phones) that will show if a phone is trying to connect to a wifi? Hmmmm, when he and his dad going back for a day looking for evidence to remove (phone?) that he knew was left in the area.. and not really searching for her?

The firearm and assault violations are convictions from the past. These new charges are for violating the probation he was placed on due to these previous convictions.

(Can’t get my multi-quote to work- sorry no poster’s quotes here)

Re: the person who drove Garland home- I think it’s possible when LE says “homeowner” it’s just a vague term, and it could very well be someone he knew.

Re: LE trying to piece together a timeline- Sure seems to me that it wouldn’t be that difficult since Garland was there. LE should know at this point exactly what they did all night and exactly when he last saw her and where. Only explanation. IMO, for not having more details is because Garland’s story is inconsistent.

DEC 27, 2019
Timeline: Disappearance and search for Oregon woman Allyson Watterson
  • Dec. 20: This is the day Allyson’s family was last in contact with her.
  • Dec. 22, shortly before noon: A homeowner north of North Plains reports seeing Allyson with her boyfriend, Benjamin Hunter Garland.
  • Dec. 23, morning: A different homeowner in the area wakes up to find Garland “soaked to the bone” sleeping in the backseat of the homeowners pickup truck. The homeowner told KGW he took Garland home.
  • Dec. 23, 5:30 p.m.: Garland’s father reports Allyson as missing, about 30 hours after she was last sighted. Garland’s father says he believes Garland and Allyson were hiking.
  • Dec. 23, evening: After receiving the report, deputies begin searching the area north of North Plains and find a truck they learn was stolen. A short time later, deputies find Garland in the same area. He is taken into custody on unrelated charges and warrants, in addition to charges connected with the stolen truck.
  • Dec. 24: First day of the search for Allyson.
  • Dec. 25: Second day of the search for Allyson.
  • Dec. 26, morning: The search area expands with nearly 100 people looking for Allyson, including volunteer searchers.
  • Dec. 26, late afternoon: Washington County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue coordinator Tony Morris says searchers found “interesting items and clues.” He doesn’t specify what the clues are. He says the search on Friday will be refocused on a concentrated area that has already been scoured. Only trained personnel will be part of that search.
  • Dec. 27, morning: The search enters its fourth day with search and rescue teams from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office and Columbia County Sheriff’s Office helping.
  • Dec. 27, noon: At a press conference, Morris says he’s not sure where the hiking theory came from, but investigators don’t think it’s likely Allyson and Garland were hiking in the area.
  • At the same press conference, Allyson’s mother, Misty, says Allyson and Garland were visiting a friend on Dec. 22. She said their car broke down, they went to get help and somehow got separated. The sheriff’s office later declines to confirm Misty’s description of events.
  • Dec. 27, 2 p.m.: Deputies reveal they are seeking a resident in the search area who may have heard a door knock at around midnight on Dec. 22. They say the homeowner may not have answered the door. If that situation sounded familiar to any resident, they ask that person call the sheriff’s office.
  • Deputies also announce they’re looking for a person who gave an iPhone to Allyson’s mother, Misty, at Reedville Café in Hillsboro within the last month. Misty gave that phone to Allyson. Investigators have been unsuccessful with pinging Allyson’s cellphone, and are hoping the original owner of the phone may have cellphone provider information that could potentially help them get location data to find Allyson.
  • Dec. 27, 2:20 p.m.: The Washington County Sheriff’s Office confirms they are still investigating the circumstances that led to Allyson’s disappearance.
  • Dec. 27, 4:30 p.m.: At another press conference, Washington County Sheriff’s Office Detective Mark Povolny reveals there is a 30-hour gap between the time Allyson was last seen and when she was reported missing.
  • At the same press conference, he said investigators are still unsure as to what happened to Allyson and they are keeping an open mind.

As always, Pommy is on it!

Great that you have a timeline going as new to following this case. Gray Hughes and Oregon and StaySafe from WS - great to have locals on SM and here at WS.

I have to admit the interest locally and from my friends and family is not as high as other local cases. Kyron was HUGE locally. To be frank, a little white boy missing from the local school with his stepmother made people feel very sorry for Kyron and wanted to help. The pictures we see of Allyson is a woman who looks older than she really is and would blend in with many homeless and runaway people living on the streets in nearby Portland. Last year there was a young white college student who went missing and there also was a HUGE search, but unfortunately he had committed suicide and jumped off a bridge. I know it sounds racist, but frankly people seem to be more concerned if it is a white "normal" looking person and if they are African American or look like one of the homeless living downtown, then the public interest is not very high. I say this as I am a white, middle class, middle aged woman. Yes, people are interested, but not to the degree as other searches. I do commend the local LE and news stations for keeping this story in the public eye, but it seems every day we find out that whatever the boyfriend or his father or Allyson's mother said was a lie and it just makes it a big mess with boyfriend's drug and stolen car convictions.

@PommyMommy Thank you for the timeline!!

I live in the area and went out to search with volunteers on Christmas Day. So many rumors are flying around it's unreal.

What I'm really confused about is her mom saying they (Allyson and boyfriend) took off in "their car" whose car? Are we to assume this is the "stolen truck"? Or are we supposed to believe that they took off in a random car, that car broke down and he stole another car? It makes no sense.
Thank you for your efforts in the search for Allyson!

The phone was capable of both wifi and cellular connections, but it currently doesn't have cellular service and is using a wifi connection only. It would be my speculation the reason LE wants to contact the old owner is to find out which cellular carrier used to provide service for the phone. If they're able to do so, it's possible that the carrier may have current records of cell tower phone pings even though the phone doesn't have cell service. Also, even a phone without service and without wifi can call 911, provided it's a cellular capable device.

Yes, in yesterday’s update they confirmed they’re trying to find out who the carrier was etc to see if they might have some location data to narrow down where she was/what happened in those 30 hours between when she disappeared to when she was reported missing.

If someone were to harm her, what would be the motive? Do we have any confirmation in MSM about Ally and BG’s relationship status, and whether they were dating or no longer together?

I noted that Ally’s mother Misty does not refer to BG as Ally’s boyfriend, so I’m curious.

ETA: Allyson’s FB also lists her as ‘single’.

Hmmm, perhaps then LE does indeed have the phone then? Even if not, it seems case is moving forward!

The thing of note that the mom did in the presser was to state there was that there is a *friend*, who we didn't know about before.

Yes, Misty claimed Ally and BG were ‘visiting a friend’ as the reason for them being in the area. With the whole stolen truck situation, I’m not so sure and I’d love to know who the friend is and whether they’ve been vetted by LE.
