Michelle Schmidt told KOIN 6 News Annie’s bank charges show she last ate Pho and stopped at a Beaverton gas station.
http://koin.com/2016/10/22/150-volunteers-help-search-for-hiker-in-gorge/

I am working on a timeline for Annie's disappearance and I can only find the above detail mentioned there. Can anyone tell me if it was stated anywhere what day/time she ate Pho and bought gas in Beaverton?
Also, what time on Sunday her roommate last saw her? I cannot find that detail anywhere. TIA.

Also, seems family is not giving up searching at least:
MULTNOMAH COUNTY, Ore. — New volunteer rescuers arrived overnight from Salt Lake City, and a new dog search team may be coming in from Phoenix to help search for a missing hiker in the Columbia River Gorge, said a family representative.

David Simon, who represents the father of a 21-year-old Anna Schmidt, said the family is asking for extra experienced searchers to come in and help.
http://katu.com/news/local/family-o...inues-search-after-official-search-called-off

Very sad to see the search ending already. They only searched fri, sat, and sunday.

On the fb page, an article states her dad thinks she may have gone to set up a tent she had received but her roommate said she had ordered one but not received it yet. This is also a little contradictory in that roommate says she thought Annie was already gone camping with her mom but also said her tent had not arrived yet. Did roommate not know when mom was scheduled to arrive and when camping was planned?

Something is not right here. Several inconsistencies and odd circumstances. They are not all adding up and I truly hope LE is doing a thorough investigation.

Thing that is strange to me is the last text from Annie to her roommate. I am not sure who is talking to who but it is weird to me to say "are you returning home to me?" To me that would indicate a slightly more intimate relationship between them. That would open up a whole other line of questioning regarding how Annie was feeling when she left and how the roommate felt about her.

Good to know I have a fellow local here who seems to be on the same page as me. :happydance:

Guys, I cannot stress to you enough the weather we had that day , that weekend. Please, I beg of you to take this into serious VERY SERIOUS consideration when forming your opinion.
We had HURRICANE force winds, and rain.
I live on the western end of the gorge and the wind is very common from the east, But hurricane force winds are not. Nobody, No-one, goes out hiking in that. There may be a few weather die hards that will go to crown point to get weather gauge info on speeds. But think of it this way, would any of you have gone hiking, camping during hurricane matthew? In a tent?

Speaking of TENT, one interview the roommate says she knew of the camping trip with mom, but that the tent had not arrived yet. Next interview, roommate thought they were already camping? I find that troubling for a couple of reasons,
1-She knew of the camping trip, enough to know the "tent" hadn't arrived and that Annie had purchased it.
2-Roommate was also aware of the weather
3-Why was she "surprised" when Annie's mom showed up? She knew of the trip, knew the tent hadn't arrived...................

I'm so frustrated I'm just going to end this here.

OH, BTW, roomie is NOT Annie's friend on facebook.:gaah:

I agree with all three of you. Something just feels a bit odd, doesn't sit right with me. Maybe it's just bad reporting though, wouldn't be the first time.

Very odd also that mom already assumes she's deceased.

I find it highly unusual that LE has suspenced the search only a week after Annie going missing; LE has stated they do not suspect foul play, and there have been plenty of people who were found well over a week after going missing under similar circumstances (i.e., LE did not suspect foul play from the beginning):

"Hiker missing for 9 days found alive in California forest": http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...missing-days-found-alive-california/71407620/
"Mims said Harwood had no food, only a water bottle with a filter inside."(Similar to Annie's case in that I don't believe Annie had supplies with her, either); "More than 50 search and rescue personnel were safely airlifted from the area Sunday, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said." (So there were at least 50 people still looking for Ms. Harwood after 9 days)

"Hiker’s journal shows she survived for close to a month after getting lost near Appalachian Trail": http://www.pressherald.com/2016/05/...ept-journal-during-weeks-lost-in-maine-woods/
"Her husband reported her missing on July 24, 2013, after she failed to show up at a prearranged meeting point on state Route 27 in Wyman Township. That was two days after she was last seen by other hikers early on July 22, at the Poplar Ridge lean-to." (Similar to Annie's case in that Annie wasn't reported for a couple of days, either); "After seven days of intense searching, the effort was suspended on July 30, 2013, though periodic efforts would continue over the coming months." (Whereas in Annie's case, "Annie Schmidt was last seen on October 16. She was reported missing on October 19 ..." as per http://koin.com/2016/10/23/missing-gorge-hiker-likely-didnt-have-camping-gear/, so at best -assuming that the search began as soon as she was reported missing- the search lasted only five days)

"Woman found alive with husband's body after weeks lost in California desert": https://www.theguardian.com/us-news...ds-body-after-weeks-lost-in-california-desert
"A husband and wife stranded for two weeks in southern California’s high desert ate oranges and a pie and drank rainwater ..." (Similar to Annie's case in that they weren't prepared to be gone for days); also, "The Southern California man found dead near his stranded vehicle weeks after he and his wife were reported missing, survived for one week before dying of a heart attack, according to an autopsy report released Wednesday" as per http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/Missing-Couple-Cecil-Paul-Knutson-Autopsy--312938141.html (so Mr. Knutson, even at the age of 79 years old, survived the first week); I would also like to point out that I couldn't find information as to how long the initial search lasted in this case, and the nature of the search would have been different in the case because they were driving and there were multiple possible routes that they could have taken.

It could be that they are suspending the search because the family does not appear to be really pushing for it ("Michelle Schmidt, Annie's mother, told KOIN 6 they believe their daughter is dead. 'I don’t think she’s still alive,' Schmidt told KOIN 6. 'I don’t think she’s survived. Honestly, that brings me comfort knowing she is with her Heavenly Father, that she’s not hurting, that she’s not suffering. But we do want to find her body.' as per http://fox13now.com/2016/10/23/fami...ng-piano-guys-daughter-now-a-recovery-effort/). Everyone is different, but personally, yes, I would be doing everything in my power -within reason- to find him/her if this were one of my children, and -perhaps more importantly- I do believe there is a pretty good chance that Annie is still alive, if she has gotten lost or even injured. As far as we know, Annie is a young, healthy woman and a regular hiker. Again, LE has said they do not suspect foul play, and sometimes that means they suspect suicide. I suppose that could be another reason for their suspending the search so soon.

All of those cases were in warmer weather. There are other differences as well. The low temperature in Portland has been around 45ºF. If she is still alive, she would be dealing with dehydration, malnutrition, and hypothermia. It would not be impossible that she could still be alive, but it would be difficult, and somewhat unlikely.

I've got to agree with the poster who said the weather here was insane that weekend. Nobody in their right mind would be out hiking in that, experienced or not.

Often seen in cases like this, it's suicide:
- odd circumstances of leaving
- they don't bring anything with them
- family wants to search a lot but gives up somewhat sooner than most
- strange statements to authorities sooner than public would think
- important information not given to public

I find it highly unusual that LE has suspenced the search only a week after Annie going missing

It is the Search and Rescue (SAR) unit's effort that has been suspended, not the LE investigation.

SARs are entirely manned by volunteers: http://mcsosar.org , the purpose is an immediate emergency response. They do 'search' very intensely in teams, along all the trails and accessible locations a person might be found, but the emphasis is on rescuing a live person within a short time frame. They look for clues that will help them focus their search, but in this case it appears they found nothing.

They will not keep going over the same large area of trails, or attempt to search every square inch, they must keep their volunteers fresh and enthusiastic so they can respond to the next emergency. It's like an emergency ward in a hospital, they deal with a crisis, but then pass the case on to another ward.

It's true that people can survive a long time in the wilderness, but it depends on the weather, and whether they have shelter and provisions. Unfortunately cold rainy weather like they've been having in that area typically means hypothermia will set in within hours and someone on their own will have very low chance of suviving because it causes confusion and drowsiness.

Other Items of Note:
Annie’s mom said her daughter’s phone is old, and the battery dies quickly. She said it’s entirely possible it was out of power when Annie arrived at the Gorge

Annie’s father plays piano for the musical group The Piano Guys, which is known for its piano and cello versions of popular songs.

Annie recently bought a new tent and backpack. She had also tweeted that she was planning a backpacking trip across Asia and India in the future.

There are conflicting statements on the location of Annie’s gear/tent:

KWG News reported that camping gear was found inside Annie’s car.

Her father said Annie might have attempted to set up the tent she had just received. (KOIN)

Annie’s roommate said she did not have her gear or tent and that the tent “had not shipped yet” (KOIN video interview). I've been following sporadically but just read back several pages to get up to speed, along with studying Gardener's terrific timeline. So please help me out here...

On Sunday, Annie gets gas in Beaverton. Is that where the girls live? Did she go to church that Sunday? Did anyone besides her roommate see her on Sunday?

She asks roommate to hang out, but roommate says she can't. Annie did not mention to her roommate anything about taking a hike. But later she sends a snap chat message to her Dad about hiking a very specific trail, where her car ends up being found. She posts a photo and an inspirational message Sunday. That's the last she's heard from besides some odd texting with roommate.

So please explain to me why the roommate didn't get worried on Sunday...especially with the horrendous weather going on? Didn't she think Annie might have been in a wreck? Why was she surprised when Anna's Mom showed up Wednesday to go camping? Roommate says she assumed they were already camping. Wouldn't Anna have returned home Sunday to start preparing for the camping trip? Wouldn't roommate know when the camping trip was scheduled? She knew the tent hadn't shipped yet, so what did she think they were going to sleep in...or was there another tent? None of this makes sense.

It's important to point out that anyone in possession of someone's phone can text or snapchat or Twitter anything. Recipients have no way of knowing who is communicating with them. I'm not accusing the roommate of anything except not making sense. If I've missed something that would answer my questions or explain things more clearly, please help me out.

So if the phone is old and the battery does NOT hold a charge long...
Annie posted on Sunday and snapchatted her father right?

How did that phone hold a charge until THURSDAY? absolutely no way!

The text the roomie is showing...that mishmash above who knows who responded.. the Are you alive?? was sent to someone at 12:22pm monday,,, which monday? it says in the caption of the post that is the final text the roommate Snyder received[/B] from Schmidt....nope..either bad reporting or fabrication? and besides that why would the roommate screen shot that?
I suspect that was a mishmash, as the iphone text snap photo is from Annie's phone? Or it would NOT say you have started sharing a location with Annie Roommate....do you all follow me?

And are you telling me when her mom received ZERO response from Annie from Sunday to Wednesday that she did not have any contact with the roommate??? huh???

Something just doesn't sit right here...not pointing any fingers....did Annie only have the one phone?? if so, then it appears she went on her short hike, snapchatted, took her pictures and went back to her car to return home...then poof! Nope...

What time did mom arrive at the apartment?

And the roomie and the mom BOTH speaking of her in the past tense just bugs the #$%^ out of me!
Snyder said she keeps looking at the final text she got from her missing roommate. The last moment of seeing her face is something Snyder can’t stop replaying in her mind. She was very important to me

Again, please clarify, was Annie Schmidt's last text to her roommate Annie Snyder, Are you Alive.....????

I know, you guys will explain it to me and then I'll feel dumb :D

Yes, all great points. Perfect examples of why I wanted to do a timeline. Normally "hiker gets lost" stories do not have so many inconsistencies and missing bits of info.
I don't think you missed a thing. Those questions are not clearly answered. It's possible the girls live in Beaverton but every news source I read said Annie had moved from SLC, UT to Portland. Sometime the majority of stories are vague and one story has the exact city. I did not find anything that said they lived in Beaverton. And I only found to references to the Pho and gas fill up in Beaverton. Who did she eat pho with? Was she eating alone? Did they find the receipts in her car?

On top of wondering why the roommate did not get worried I was wondering why the mom did not try to call Annie's roommate when she could not reach her Daughter on Monday and Tuesday? Mom was planning a trip via plane to come see her daughter and she only says she grew worried when Annie didn't text her back? Did she not have the roommate's contact info? And why not? Does Annie have a history of not answering for a few days?

Lastly, that caption on the last twitter photo just strikes me as odd. I wonder if family wound say that is something Annie would say often or that it sounds like her?

I had thought this exact same thing about the phone. I'm not sure if this is accurate or not but I have seen some comments on other threads that LE can still ping a phone when it is turned off but not if the battery is removed or dead. I'm not sure if that is true and we are not told anywhere what kind of phone Annie had so I don't know how to look up if they could have pinged her phone if the it was off or the battery died.

I had the same question about why mom didn't call her roommate...

Based on the timeline, Annie tweeted the scenic view pic and posted a soundcloud song - the put her phone back in the car (or left it in the car) and then went on the hike? Around what time of the day would this have been?

OH I forgot to answer the last part about the text--that text "Are you Alive" is from the roommate to Annie. I know it is confusing with both girls named Anna...and both have the same initials. From the time stamp it looks like it was sent on Monday. If Annie who is missing sent a text on Monday she would have to have slept in her car or survived the elements which were reportedly a bad storm.
