Yeah I'm 99.9% sure the car was not in the actual river.

According to the above article she is 5'4" 125.

It's not specified in the article, but from the video it sounds like she was hiking alone (at least as far as anyone knows). No information on the car as far as I can tell.

Also slightly OT but for what it's worth this is super close to where Alyssa McCrann (sp?) disappeared, or at least to where Alyssa's car was found. The dam and Multnomah Falls are probably less than 10 miles apart.

There have been a lot of missing people out here in the gorge this year. I've heard helicopters flying over a little bit today but it's been foggy and rainy here so an air search might not be condusive.

We have to face the reality she may not still be alive'
Emphasis mine

Kind of sad to be saying that this early into the search. :( Her dad referred to her in the past tense during the video... maybe he has a premonition ? Idk.

Michelle Schmidt said her daughter's car that was found on Thursday had been broken into
According to above link-- they've ruled out foul play ? Makes no sense.
Imo.

Did she have a boyfriend or ex bf ? Have they spoken to the roommate who saw her last ? I'd imagine they did just that by now.
Hopefully she's just lost .

Search continues after missing hiker's phone & car found
Police are asking for the public’s help with locating a 21-year-old Portland woman who they believe is missing in the Columbia River Gorge.

Anna Schmidt, "Annie" to those who know her, was reported missing Wednesday but was last seen by her roommate on Sunday, Oct. 16.

Police say Schmidt is a hiker and recently purchased a new tent and backpack. Her car was located in the Columbia River Gorge near Bonneville Dam.

Inside, police also found her cell phone and camping gear.

They do not believe foul play was involved.

I wonder are they sure she was all alone.Seems kind of lonely going by yourself and dangerous.

My guess from the "no foul play" comments from LE combined with the family's speculation that she may not be alive is suicide. The tent seems an odd purchase for someone who was intending to end their life, but maybe it was part of the plan.

From the article.

Investigators are concerned she may have gotten lost or injured hiking in the Gorge.

The obvious possibilities would be: accidental death, or death by natural causes. I believe they would make that determination based on the fact that she has been missing for almost a week, and the chances of survival under those conditions, would not be good.

Why would she leave her phone behind ?
The article said that it was old and didn't stay charged long. The mom said she would have left it wasn't working. Also, if the mountains are big, I don't know how cell service would be.

It could be just a coincidence that her car was broken into, but that doesn't seem to be an especially good sign, to me.

Thanks jbbb....hadn't heard the info on her phone.......by looking at her fb she likes to pose precariously on the edge.....selfies....

I would suspect foul play if the car is broken into.......how do they know she wasn't inside at the time.....sheesh.

Praying for Annie to be safe and to be found and to return to her family in good health.

"Her mother, Michelle Schmidt of Salt Lake City, told KOIN-TV that she arrived in Portland this week to go on a camping trip with her daughter."

"After flying in, she learned her daughter had not been seen since Sunday."

"Her father told KOIN Annie might have attempted to set up the tent she had just received."

And that does explain the tent purchase.
So sad. I wonder if she had been communicating with anyone who would know she was going out alone. I can't help but have my first thought be foul play...
But then again hiking and camping alone is not the best idea. Anything can happen in the wilderness. I really hope she is found :-(

This article says they found her car by pinging Annie's phone, and it led them to it, which was near the Columbia River Gorge. And that"after sitting there for days it had been broken into and ransacked."

This one states that when police found her car, "inside, police also found her cell phone and camping gear."

If her car had been ransacked, is it odd that her phone and camping gear would still be in the car?

Regarding the fact that her phone was left in the car, her mother (at the kgw link above) had a possible explanation for her daughter leaving her phone in the car: that her "phone is old and the battery dies quickly."

Last weekend we had a doozy of a weather forecast. Some areas got hit hard and others not so much. There was flooding rains, high wind and on the coast , tornado (s).
The higher in elevation anyone would have been, the fiercer the winds, AND Mt. Hood got snow from this. I'm leaning on the skeptical side due to the weather that we had and the many warnings that were put out in relation to such. The picture of her local posted shows flooding AND left over debris on the ground.
The high power lines in that picture run near I-84 and all along the dam.
