Yikes on the amount of ammo....obviously could have been much worse.

Did he "chicken out" on his plan? Or was a cornered too quickly?

Thank god for whatever the reason. And thank god he didn't hurt his family.

Cornered to quickly. He had exchanged gunfire with the police and then went into the bathroom and killed himself.

With his interests He would have made great company for the couple in Las Vegas!!!

Unbelievable.

Would want more info as to how security measures were defeated.

You will never ever see a gun in my home, around my children, or in their presence.

I have an alarm system and I am comfortable with that.

How can any child grow up normally in a house full of weapons like that - "secured" or not. It's not healthy, I'm sorry, and totally unnecessary. Unless you live far out in the country on a farm or ranch or something, you just DO NOT need to have them, and even then you don't need a freakin arsenal like this!!!

74 school shootings since Sandy Hook in 2012 and the Nation is getting safer? 74. And those are just schools and do not include every other insane rampage shooting that has occurred in another public place.

Sorry, but that we are safer is the myth. More gun violence than 27 other developing Nations? We are violent.

74. In one year and a half. I'm not sure how that can even be said with a straight face at this point.

Overall rates of violence between humans are a fraction of what they were a century or more ago. Homicide rates in the US have been dropping steadily since the early 1990s and are now near record lows. Spree killings and school shootings are two unfortunate exceptions to this general trend.

The response to school shootings by the authorities has improved since Columbine, but we haven't made any real progress in prevention. Troubled young men have little difficulty flying under the radar before emerging with guns blazing.

Just another Tuesday in the USA...until we DO SOMETHING about it!

But what is to be done? That's what I ask myself and sadly I have no answer. Other than raise your kids to cope with emotions and not become a psychopath. And treat mental illness from within, don't just throw medicine at everyone who says they are depressed(fighting with my family on that one in regards to my little sister).

We all know what we can do.

Will we do it is another question.

RE: But what is to be done? That's what I ask myself and sadly I have no answer.

me either (yesterday I was grasping with no back packs !) -- it is powerlessness and the human entity does not do that - as an animal we need order - predictability in our surroundings -- the need to feel like we can control what happens to us........

I thought (pathetic that the only way to talk to you guys is BY city) Los Vefas was Canada- not in fault in triggering now Le

Why not really bug LE by doing it (target LE) coming off one attack on LE

Same Ga court guy - after ER

Yesterdy why not after Pacific -- it is like an unleashing

It is quite hideous and powerlessness ................

until now today, just now , avoided checking in with the world around me........... and a dude in Tenn is eating his victim

I am 54 ----other folks my generation == this is different yes?

OR was I wild, having fun, getting my degrees, practicing that I missed that this is really nothing new

Am just more aware now in midlife? Or is there something really horrilbe happning to humans?

An answer pls.........TIA..............

A century or more ago we lived in a different time and world. We are supposed to become MORE civilized over time, not less, so I do not see that as a viable or even relevant comparison. 74 school shootings since Sandy Hook is not the sign of a less violent and more civilized nation.

Homicide rates may be overall down, but that is very relative to where you live. Chicago comes to mind. And schools in American Suburbs.

And I agree with you that we have made zero progress in regards to preventing spree killings. These people, kids even, are able to purchase, stockpile, and arm themselves to the teeth with weapons and ammo. Partly because, yes they go undetected, due to their White Privilege.(Almost ALL of these shooters are young white males of middle to affluent families)

No one suspects them. They are not perceived as "dangerous" or suspicious, or criminal to begin with.

Futher, it is part socialization. It is "patriotic" to like guns, to even fetishize them, to rant and rave like a crazy person that you will not be "disarmed". War and Military are glorified. Violence is glorified.

It is as American as Apple Pie. All of it.

A well regulated Militia. Two words in the Constitution that Ammosexuals LOVE to ignore.

They read pretty clear to me.

In this case and with Adam Lanza, I'd say parents should be much more concerned about some obsession with guns. Where does a 15 year old get the idea to join some of the 'adult' groups he joined like "We Will Not be Disarmed"? Why do parents not pay attention to these signs. Why are there any guns 'available' to a kid or a mentally ill person.

I don't care what these parents or the police are saying, if they wanted to secure their guns so their kids could NOT get at them, they could. PERIOD!

I know this is not the same in all cases, but we need to prosecute gun owners who let others have access to their guns... if it's your gun, then only you should have access. Nancy Lanza just basically let her severely mentally ill hate/war/violence obsessed son have access and even gave him one as a Christmas present.

In the Las Vegas case, they managed to obtain 3 guns (all legally purchased I think, but he was not allowed to have a gun nor live with someone who had a gun). None of their guns were registered.... you should have to register any gun upon purchase, shouldn't you? Is it voluntary?

Open closet, pull out rifle, ammo.

that's probably not what happened--or it won't be how it's reported. I don't mean to be so flippant, but when you view pics of that type of rifle, I just don't get it.

Could he buy the ammo on his own? Have no idea how age restrictions differ/are the same with regard to ammo.

If you want to discuss how this 15 year old was able to get his hands on guns, that's fine. But the political gun control overall discussion belongs in the Political Pavilion.

You have not been alone. I have unapproved posts and moved posts to the PP and I'm about done. Next up: :saber:

I am sorry Kimster. I am trying constantly to walk the line. It's just difficult to talk about a mass shooting without talking about the murder weapon and the rampage shooter's ability to obtain the murder weapons and ammo, which inevitably leads too...you know what.

In any event, just so I am clear with what can and cannot be posted in here: We can discuss how he obtained his weapons? What he used? And where he possibly purchased his 9 clips of Ammo? But not how we feel about it either way? Is that correct? Just so I know.

I kind of think (he went right to the gym ) that all he wanted was coach for some reason-- he passed a bunch of kids eveindetly --- and I think this has something to do with no release of info ...............
