I just read on twitter that last night Anderson Cooper said he would not be releasing the name of the shooter so as not to give him notoriety.

None of this makes sense. Maybe they are trying to protect the shooters family maybe siblings..idk. all those children at the school know who it is. where did he get the gun?

ciao

The one thing that sticks out to me as I look at the pictures of the kids being reunited with their families is how different all the families look. Some with tattoos, dressed more alternatively, some in tshirts, some in military attire, some dressed for office work, and they are all just praying and thankful that their child was not injured, they all are clutching their children, and it just reminds me no matter how different our lives are we all want the same thing for our children, we all love them dearly. I feel so horrible for the family of the victim, and for the shooter, those parents were probably waiting, hoping to see their child's face as they came off a bus and suddenly they realized that their baby would not be coming home that night. How awful for your child to be the victim, and how truly awful for your child to become a murderer and take their own life.

And while I feel for the shooters family, I am so sick of these shooters. I just don't understand what is wrong with kids who see this as an option. I have ideas as to what can play roles in it, but, plenty of kids grow up in dysfunctional families, exposed to real life and fictional violence and never take a gun to school and shoot up the place, so at the end of the day I still cannot see what makes them make this leap to murderer. But enough is enough. The pictures I mentioned above should be enough to convince anyone we are all the same, we all love, we all care, no matter how different we may seem.

The shooter at Thurston High killed his parents before shooting up his school. The Sandy Hook shooter killed his mother before going to the elementary school. If this shooter killed his parents somewhere besides home, it could explain why the authorities have been unable to locate them so far.

Excellent point.

I went to school with six classes - we held our books in our hands and walked to class!

Now,they can take an ipad or a tablet no need for heavy books or paper anymore. It could be safer, better idea.

I don't know how they'd actually have 2,000 kids checked daily for weapons when entering the school and going various places within the school.

Have smaller classes, smaller community schools. This HS was way too big to monitor the kids. Realistically over 10 students per teacher is too many to control or properly connect with.

I swear, I had the same thought last night when it had been over 12 hours and they kept saying that they knew the identity of the shooter but had not yet been able to notify his family. This was at 11:00 P.M. last night.

Unless LE is using that as a reason to hold the press at bay when the reason is really something else.

I mean, where are they?

The only other thing I could think of is that they were away on a vacation, overseas or something, and are not easily reached.

Otherwise, its just strange.

The common perception is that the world has become more violent, but in fact it is becoming safer. I suggest watching Steven Pinker's Ted Talk:

https://www.ted.com/talks/steven_pinker_on_the_myth_of_violence

74 school shootings since Sandy Hook in 2012 and the Nation is getting safer? 74. And those are just schools and do not include every other insane rampage shooting that has occurred in another public place.

Sorry, but that we are safer is the myth. More gun violence than 27 other developing Nations? We are violent.

74. In one year and a half. I'm not sure how that can even be said with a straight face at this point.

But by nightfall, more than 12 hours later, those affected most by Tuesday's tragedy were still looking to answer to the most basic questions .

Who was the shooter? Why did he do it? Did police stop rampage, or did the shooter take his own life? What kind of gun?

And why Emilio?

The investigation is ongoing, and police have released few details.

"It would give people justice just to know," said Jordan Minter, a senior at Reynolds who said she knows Emilio's older brother. "He (the shooter) grazed a teacher and then got a student. Was that his goal or not?"

He just said that judging from the amount of weapons and ammunition the shooter was carrying, the teacher that began the lockdown (the one that was grazed)saved "many many many lives". Thank God.

And that "discussing his motive would be inappropriate at this time."

I can't deal. It's truly the same story over and over again. On repeat.

Jared Michael Padget is the name of the shooter.

Carrying an AR-15 Type Assault Rifle. ...in a guitar case. He is a 15 year old freshman, arrived at school via the bus. LE cannot answer how Jared Padget obtained the gun, whether it came from his house or not, as it is part of the ongoing investigation.

Hearing the details makes me furious all over again.
