Kyron Horman search day 9: Boy still missing as online rumor control kicks inSunday, June 13, 2010 6:05 AM

SNIPPED>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

First, Shults said, there's a reason the family is not out in the field helping with the search.

"We need them to be close and that was conveyed to them from the beginning," he said. "We need them to be right there so that if (investigators) have questions or they find evidence or if they're going in a direction that's totally wrong. ..."

"Their information is critical and they immediately knew that and immediately started assisting the sheriff's office to provide that information to us, which is exactly what we wanted them to do."

Shults also said he asked family members to maintain normal activities -- such as grocery shopping or going to the gym -- to help maintain their mental and physical health.

Did I miss where police said Kyron was kidnapped?

I meant the police said they said they suspected he went missing on the Friday sorry. ( I had only just got out of bed when i posted that and have had a lack of sleep the past few days trying to keep up on this thread).

I learned there is only one point of access to the island by road, the Sauvies Island Bridge. A new bridge was built in 2007 adjacent to the old bridge which was then demolished:

26,000 acres of farmland and wildlife refuge area.

ETA: I can't find any evidence of a RR on Sauvie Island. I think the RR runs along Hwy 30 adjacent to the river. Need a closer local to find out. lol

The first thought that entered my head when I saw this pic...

Now tell me, what 7 year old little boy wouldn't want to miss school for a special field trip of sorts to take a drive out to see this. Perhaps his view was from his position perched upon the railing of a brand new bridge, held lovingly of course by someone he trusted.

Just trying to think like a nefarious person. IMO, looking at the map, if I needed to do a body dump and not be noticed, Suavie would be the place I'd go. Ok THAT was creepy to type.

I wouldn't. There is only one way in and out of Sauvie Island by car - the bridge off Hwy 30. Sometimes there's construction going on there, or heaven forbid, a traffic delay of some type. Once coming back from Sauvie Island, it took me over an hour to get off the island. We are talking ONE maybe two miles. Why? I have no idea. By the time I got off the bridge and back on to Hwy 30, all I could see was that there was a police officer at the head of the bridge, directing traffic for no reason that I could discern. It was backed up on Hwy 30 for at least a mile.

So there are a lot of reasons to go to Sauvie Island, but it would certainly not be a destination point for me if I were a criminal looking dispose of something incriminating in a limited amount of time.

Also, The Pumpkin Patch is right out in the open, but you can't drive right up to it - you have to park and get out in the gravel lot (or you could drive across the fields, but that would be rather noticeable and leave tracks!). But maybe there is another pumpkin patch on the island that I've not been to. There might be; the island's main industry is agriculture.

And another thing, Forest Park is closer to Skyline than Sauvie Island - far more convenient if it's all about convenience and hiding something. Sauvie Island is not heavily wooded. It's pretty flat and, compared to Forest Park, much easier to see from the ground and from above. I wonder if the Sauvie Island searches have to do with waterways and/or a tip the LE have received.

I was thinking last night that maybe they are checking the 3rd and 4th for traffic video that maybe someone came down on the 3rd to go to the science fair at the school on the 4th.

BBM. That is not what I saw at all. The stepfather spoke directly to Kyron - every sentence in his statement was directly to him. The father said nothing to Kyron whatsoever. Nothing. Not a word - not even I love you. Every sentence the father spoke was thanking the public, LE, the media. He also showed a complete lack of emotion, except perhaps a bit of public speaking nervousness, IMO. The stepfather however, was deeply disturbed, IMO.

It seemed to me the roles of the stepfather and bio father were completely reversed and if I saw that video with no knowledge of this case my immediate conclusion would have been that TY was Kyron's father.

I found that press conference disturbing, on more levels than one. Having said that, I don't necessarily think the behavior and body language of the parents has anything to do with Kyron's disappearance, but I think it does yield clues about the family dynamics.

I also found that pc very disturbing, but I can't quite put my finger on why. You did make some good points, but I got the feeling of a seething mass of conflicting emotions going on under the facade they paraded before us.

Disturbing is a very good word, just not sure how to apply it in the no-nothing context we have.

Keep checking it to see if Kyron has been found. I just want to say a little prayer, please overlook if you are not interested..

Lord Please Guide someone to Kyron. He has been missing long enough and only you can help lead us right to him. I Pray for the Family that you help them get through this tough time. In your name I pray, Amen...

Oh no, that was chilling to read that.

Re sauvie island searches - I wonder if they are checking the Multnomah Channel.

It would be interesting to know whether or not LE checked with the pediatrician, dentist, etc to confirm whether or not Kyron had any appointments scheduled for that day.
.

In one of the earlier threads, someone mentioned that there was a "mistake" and the appointment was actually the following Monday. It was mentioned in the same context of "Why would she call across the gym to tell about an appointment, but emailed about picking up the project"

I definitely think the appointment angle is plausible, but like everything else in this case, there is no confirmation ... of anything ... except that there is a missing 7-year-old. :banghead:

Did any other family members, friends, friends of friends ect...come down to see his science project?

I know. It was also somewhat jarring that the officer who introduced the parents went out of his way to assert that the family was "united". Why did he think we thought they weren't and why did he think it was important for us to think they were? He was defensive before the thing even started and I felt like he was demanding that I see something that clearly wasn't there. I wondered at the time why he wanted us not to see the conflict and I decided he probably didn't want the public to be distracted by the family division.

Anyway, as I said before, I don't think the undercurrents in the family at that conference are central to finding to Kyron, but I do think it's a window into the family dynamics in general, which I find interesting to discuss.

Kyron is the step son of a LEO, he knows stranger danger and he has been drilled not to go with people he doesn't know. So in my mind, if he went with someone, he knew the person well enough to maybe step outside with them or help get something from a car, some lure to get him out to a place to take him. This person would not have stuck out that day. He would have a reason to be there, he wouldn't have been a regular or he wouldn't have a alibi of where he was during this time frame, so I think a visitor, or dropping things off or even a parent of another child; someone Kyron knew well enough to go with, for just a second. This person would be around kids, someone kids trusted and he is friendly. He has no record that anyone knows about. He may work with kids. But he will have a solid alibi for those hours or he won't even be questioned because he was flying under the radar that day. Many people knew about the events and that kids would be milling around and this was an opportunity to take a chance. Kyron wouldn't wonder off, I really don't believe that. He was on his way down that hall to a class room. JMO

I'm sure you all remember Ted Bundy and the way he used a cast on his arm to lure victims into helping him. Was anyone seen that day with a cast, or even an ace bandage?

I also want to know if any other family members, friends, friends of friends ect...of the other children came down to see any of the other childrens projects or talent show at the school?

This is exactly what my research showed so we are officially calling the info about the appointment and the pick up of the project as rumor and off the threads!
thank you.

I have been VERY interested in the answer to that question from the very beginning of this case and have looked high and low for any information regarding the whereabouts of any of the family members that morning.

Not one single word has been released about the whereabouts that morning of any member of family whatsoever. I still don't even know if the father was at work that day. As for SM, she was running errands, whatever that means. Not a word about any of them.

Very unusual. I do believe they got someone's pings and that is what is leading the search right now and the requests for video during the 3rd and 4th of June.

Great point, the person may have played on his helpfulness and kindness. This was another thing predators do to get kids to help them. This is why we throw things out, maybe some one will read here and think about it.....

I am interested in the Plumper Pumpkin Patch and Tree Farm.... This place was close to the school. I wonder if there were any deliveries for field trips to or from this place? Why the other patch on Sauvie Island? This place has lots of trees around it and is more easily accessed from what I see on the map.

OT: I live near a grade school (in my back yard), and in the after school hours and week-ends, I see very young (6-8) year olds alone, riding their bike .... or just walking along. Sometimes there is 2 together and rarely 3.

I look around and see no adults. I've sat out and watched also, I see no adults around at all. It drives me crazy, and worries me so! When they're within eyesight, I sure do watch them closely!

What is WRONG with parents??

I'm curious. Is there a park type place maybe or maybe not near water on Sauvie Island.
