OR - Travis (died) & Jamilyn Juetten, knife attack at home by masked intruder, Silverton, Aug 2021

DNA Solves
DNA Solves
DNA Solves
You don’t hAve two knife wielding attackers roaming around the same geographical area.
Quote snipped by me.
I also have to respectfully disagree, because there could be "copy-cat" crimes. I would have hoped that in this case, since the attacker was fought-off (Edit: sorry, scared off. But it seems like at least one victim fought), LE would have found DNA, but perhaps unfortunately not.

It’s a curious case. Doesn’t seem likely that it’s BK though not impossible. Wonder if his whereabouts then are known. But like the Idaho case, it is very likely that dna was left at the scene of such a brutal attack. If it was personal and someone they knew, you’d think they would have a suspect. If it was BK,they would have matched his dna by now. So yeah likely a second knife wielding murderer who could very well strike again.

In my own opinion; this was personal. Also an opinion; when a case has no updates, it won't usually get the attention; and visa-versa...When a case is not receiving enough attention, it seems like status updates go cold. I Hope that makes sense...
Does anyone have any thoughts on who the target of the assault was? Just one of them? Or both? Since it seems personal, (in my opinion only) It would seem as if the perp may have known the victim.(s)What are the usual; or, most common motives?
Another theory is could have been mistaken identity...
The thing that would make this unlikely/likely would be locale. How many people; or, how far away did they live from other people??
Their residence was about halfway between Salem (the capitol, relatively boring) and Silverton (pretty rural, mostly known for outdoor activities). I have a friend that teaches school in Silverton and it's very quiet. There aren't many reasons to be driving between the two cities, unless you like to hike Silver Falls or go see the Oregon Garden near Silverton, or want bigger shopping opportunities near Salem.

The number game and the dates arent important. These two cases are not coincidences. They’ve got their man in custody.
Meaning? It sounds like you are stating that BK is responsible for this murder, as well… is that what you are intending to say?

My intuition says that this may have been Kohlbergers first murder. Or maybe not his first. You don’t hAve two knife wielding attackers roaming around the same geographical area. More of a test run.
I also respectfully disagree. Based on what evidence and facts are you making the determination? BK had just moved to Washington to attend WSU in the fall semester of 2022, prior to which he’d been attending DeSales University in PA earning his Master’s. Travis’ murder happened approximately a year prior to BK even moving to the area, before which, he was on the opposite side of the country at school. I don’t think the timeline really adds up there, IMO. Not to mention, there are zero facts released by LE to support the theory that the two crimes are linked… actually, they specifically stated they do NOT believe the two cases to be related… but perhaps I am incorrect and there has been an update from LE stating otherwise? Do you have any facts or evidence to support your claim that you can link here for us?

We don't know if DNA was found but if so, I agree.
I hope so. One of the things that I have heard a lot recently from interviews with various investigators discussing unique considerations in cases of murders committed with a knife… they’ve said that often, they ARE able to collect the killer’s DNA at the scene, specifically speaking of the killer’s blood. They were reporting that in stabbings, killers are prone to cutting themselves with the murder weapon because there is so much blood, and blood is actually extremely slippery. So, hopefully this crime scene was processed as thoroughly as possible and they do have the killer’s DNA. If so, I would think at that point it just comes down to resources and will of the police department there… Genealogical DNA is super time consuming from what I understand. I watched a few interviews and read a few articles with the woman who did the genealogical work that eventually led to the Golden State killer arrest. The local police department has made no further statements to my knowledge about this case, I have no idea what they’re doing behind the scenes, or if they are willing to collaborate with state police and/or FBI, but I agree with you… if I were LE, and I had no leads or anything promising to work with… I’d be working the ancestral DNA angle HARD… assuming they have a sample to work with.

I guess the things to know relating to kohberger as potential suspect would be:
  • Whereabouts on those dates, if he was even in region
  • Any DNA
  • Knife type
  • Any DNA collected
  • any description of attacker give to investigators
  • If break-in involved any theft

What else would be interesting to learn?
I was going back through articles but I can’t find anything specific to this question of mine… Do you happen to know if either survivor was able to give a description?

Are you able to tell me which podcast talks about this?
I am so sorry for the loss of your dear husband Travis.

I’ve not seen any podcast on Apple podcast or YouTube, but I may have missed something while searching. However, I did notice a YouTube video about 7 + minutes titled "Are the Oregon and Idaho Student Murders Connected?" Though I’ve not watched it yet.

In addition, there was a murder of a young lady gunned down in her own driveway while setting up for a garage sale. It’s been 4 years since the senseless murder and no arrest. Similar to your case the crime received hardly any attention. The victim’s father reached out and asked if YouTubers, podcasters, TikTok, etc would cover his daughter’s murder. Many responded and there are now a lot of YouTube videos and podcasts about the horrendous murder. They have done amazing work keeping the story out there and maybe someday it will lead to an arrest(s).

Hoping you and Travis and your families get justice! I wish you wellness and mindfulness. :) Heart

How close were their neighbors, tho? Does anyone on here know?

Ok. So...I was thinking maybe motive could have been to burglarize the residence, and was surprised that people were home? But, then what would have given the perpetrator the idea that no one was home?? There were three people there. If their vehicles were there, the perpetrator would have known the home was occupied.
