I was wondering since you don't pump your own gas and have a gas can that needs filing up do you pass the gas can to the attendant? Wondering if all the small purchases could have been for a gas can to burn evidence or maybe gas for another vehicle?

You're not supposed to touch the pump. When I need our gas can filled, I get it out of my vehicle and place it on the ground near the pump. The attendant fills it and hands it back to me then.

I was wondering similar to what you were.. if they filled a gas can and not the vehicle.

Anyone else think that where the phone was found was a throw the phone out the car window type scenario? That is what I am thinking, and thus thinking no other evidence will be recovered near there. I could be wrong, of course.
If "kids" playing in the area found it I would think that it was not THAT close to the road but then again....:waitasec:

The map speaks volumes to me. And that's all I can say right now.

It would speak even more volumes if the times were known for when the vehicle was at the Dodge Park and Larch Mountain locations. What time the phone shut off and what time the car was dumped in the Walmart parking lot. Which I would think all is known by LE and with all the video cameras Walmart has they know if more than one person was in that car or if the perp(s) left on foot or by car.

If the phone was pinged at the apartment complex after the car was dumped then the perp(s) likely had a reason to go there.

Was the broken glass possibly from her kicking the window out in the middle of her abduction? I find it weird that someone would bust open a window on the passengers side and not the driver's side. Just my thoughts.

We really just don't know. LE has not elaborated one way or the other on the broken window, but that is one of the theories that has been speculated.

Good question! If she came home after dark (after everyone was basically home from work) I'd think those spots were already taken...
At least they always were where I lived...

I only lived in Apartments for a few years but I SWEAR!!! I never came home once where ANYONE was just hanging out and available to help me "park" my SUV... BUT I never "got to know" anyone in my complexes either... I never spent more than a year at each place either soo...

When I was newly married I was either working or spending "time" with my hubs.
meeting "new folks" wasn't much of a priority at that time.. If ya know what I mean... We had no $ to go out and socialize much anyway...

Just would be my rotten luck I'd have to park in some dark corner of the lot and walk a good distance too! (ALONE, I might add)

I WONDER if the parking beside the apartments isn't a spot residents pay for?
Was it covered? I forgot already! I KNOW the single garages at apts usually have a monthly fee...

I believe this is her complex http://www.kellerapartmenthomes.com/heatherwood/website/frequently-asked-questions.html
It says parking spaces and garages are "offered," which to me sounds like there is an additional charge for a parking space.

Thanks! I was wondering if it was HRD or "scent".

Is there a way to tell one from another?

I"m thinking definitely scent. I don't think this person was dumb enough to drop the phone and a body in the same location given what the map shows.

I believe I read somewhere that Whitney was with her mom the evening before she went missing, correct? Do we know what time she arrived back home - when the neighbor helped her park her truck?

surfie, what is the map showing that you are talking about? tia

Yes, dogs are trained for specifically one or the other. The ones that are trained in both have different alerts depending on which they find.

Trying to think "out of the box" , but all I can see is a box right now...

Deed done, an alibi or 4 created... vehicle left in WM, and a phone drop location...

the perp had to know time was slim! Work was calling her!

The car was dumped at 11:17. Grandjean slipped up today (IMHO) when he said that the visits to Larch and Dodge were before the Shell station video at 9:14.

'(At) about 8:15 her boss called me and said, "Hey, I was just curious, did Whitney decide to be sick or not feeling well? Have you seen her or talked to her?"' he told KATU.

Mr Heichel tried calling and texting her, but she did not respond.

Worried, he drove to her parents' home and then to a hospital in the area, as well as calling family and friends to see if anyone knew of her whereabouts.

I hope I'm not re-hashing things already said... still catching up!

I'm curious... her phone was apparently off and went to VM on Tuesday... but it still had enough battery life on Thursday when the kids found it Thurs night? I'm thinking when those calls were made and it went straight to VM on Tues AM, that it wasn't a dead battery... it was out of range. :(

ETA: I think he was filling up w/gas so he could take 84 out of town.

In Oregon is a PIN or signature required when you purchase small amounts of gas?

Nope. Oregon is not self service, attendants take your card, start the pump, then give your card back to you. They bring the receipt when they are done pumping. I've never had to sign anything, even for a $60 tank of gas. Credit or bank card.

JMO but a broken passenger window... assuming she was in the driver's seat says it was not a car jacking... i think they go to the driver's side... maybe it was just for "show"?

geez that is a good point.

My own smart phone will be dead/completely drained in 24 hours or less if I start with it completely charged (that is with minimal use). I have LG 4G LTE. Seriously how was the phone still capable of having battery life that long? Anyone else have any other info on how long batteries last in smart phones... my type of phone is only one example.

Can you tell just by looking at them what they do?
By how they carry themselves? or
Are they identified visually in a different way?
Like by a collar or a vest or anything?

Or does the timing of the disappearance call for a different dog?
Does that make sense?
Just curious...

Surely the HRD's aren't brought in for a few days.... or are they?

I have considered the possibility that one of the kids may have had the same type of phone and therefore the right type of charger to be able to turn the phone back on. Not sure, I'm just speculating the possible reason how the phone was able to still be used. Because, IMO, it would not stay charged that long.

I wondered during the end of the last thread about that. Did it go to voicemail for Clint because it was out of range or turned off?

That said, I have an iPhone 4s and with very limited use, my battery stays charged for about 36-48 hours. Even when I'm going in and out of coverage, the battery lasts awhile.
