geez that is a good point.

My own smart phone will be dead/completely drained in 24 hours or less if I start with it completely charged (that is with minimal use). I have LG 4G LTE. Seriously how was the phone still capable of having battery life that long? Anyone else have any other info on how long batteries last in smart phones... my type of phone is only one example.

I also have a 4g android phone mine happens to be an HTC and if it is fully charged it will last a day and a half before i have to charge again if I am using it just to text hubby off and on it wont last 24 hours if i am browsing the internet and watching hulu netflix ect

Do we know what kind of phone she had? I have an iPhone, and for example @ 1030 this morning it was at 74% and right now (3:00) it is at 54%. I have been on WS quite a bit today and have sent and received maybe 10 texts. My battery can go pretty long, especially if I'm not using the phone.

Anyone else think that where the phone was found was a throw the phone out the car window type scenario? That is what I am thinking, and thus thinking no other evidence will be recovered near there. I could be wrong, of course.

This is what I was wondering too. It could make a difference, as to whether the person was on foot or in a vehicle. Although, I'm guessing the fingerprints were wiped clean before it was tossed.

As this case is so strange, with so many different locations, it makes me wonder if all this to and fro-ing was done deliberately to throw LE off track - and to end up parking in a Walmart parking lot - well, that only adds to the confusion. A quiet side street would have made more sense.

The various cameras will probably show someone in a hoodie wearing sunglasses!

The only phone I've ever had that lasted that long was my old Samsung flip phone and an old Samsung slider phone. I've had an HTC Evo that wouldn't last more than 6 hours on its factory battery, but I bought a special battery that kept it going about 16 hours or so... but that was only if I didn't actually use it. My current iPhone only lasts about 9-12 hours w/out needing to be charged.

I wonder if she had an older phone? Or if she had a car charger and the creeper used it. I hope the creeper used it, so they can trace what it did...

If you have seen the photos, lots of people park their cars on the streets. may be it is closer to her apt and also she can keep an eye on her Ford Exp. (may be break-ins are common inside the apt or in that area).

Another reason would be there would not be empty parking spaces inside for her to park closer to her apt and she might have to park way-inside and walk a bit.

if i had to leave for work early in the morning (before the sun came up), i'd rather park right in front of my house so i wouldnt have to walk too far alone in the dark... even if i did have a designated parking spot in the lot.

I'm thinking the phone might have been dead when it was found. Maybe at that point the children's mother plugged it into a charger just long enough to turn it on and see what was on it? I mean how else would you return a dead cell phone to it's owner?
It is possible that if her phone were fully charged when she left for work on Tues that the battery would not be dead if it had not actually been used for anything. Receiving messages/calls/texts doesn't drain the battery much, if you're not answering them.
MOO

If it is shut "off" would it hold a charge longer?

Hmm is this allowed?

"My battery problem with my iPhone 4 isn't battery life when I am in range of a cell tower, but battery life when I am out of range. When the phone is constantly searching for a signal, battery life is dismal"

makes me think the phone was shut off BEFORE leaving the area?
Hence the phone still had life in it?

OR one of the kids had a charger that fit it and that is how they checked it?
DANG there are soo many different ones... what would the chances of that be?

Why would the perp throw the cell phone out the window on the way to ditching the car at walmart? Thats the only thing that makes since looking at the map. Unless he/she took the cell with them and ditched it after exiting the car.

I wondered during the end of the last thread about that. Did it go to voicemail for Clint because it was out of range or turned off?

That said, I have an iPhone 4s and with very limited use, my battery stays charged for about 36-48 hours. Even when I'm going in and out of coverage, the battery lasts awhile.
I live not to far from the area and have been to dodge park and I wouldn't be surprised if there is not cell service there. My husband fishes out near sandy and it often goes straight to voicemail when he's out of range.

I can't help but to think that LE has a pretty good idea of who took her, and that's why they're not releasing video. Of course, I'm probably totally wrong. I just don't know why else they wouldn't want to release it?

The car was dumped at 11:17. Grandjean slipped up today (IMHO) when he said that the visits to Larch and Dodge were before the Shell station video at 9:14.

'(At) about 8:15 her boss called me and said, "Hey, I was just curious, did Whitney decide to be sick or not feeling well? Have you seen her or talked to her?"' he told KATU.

Mr Heichel tried calling and texting her, but she did not respond.

Worried, he drove to her parents' home and then to a hospital in the area, as well as calling family and friends to see if anyone knew of her whereabouts.

I'm still catching up from last night so I apologize if this is a duplicate post, I'm sure it probably is, but here it is anyway for the others like me that are still catching up:

At Friday morning's news conference, Grandjean, who said this case is continuing to be treated as a criminal investigation until otherwise indicated, went on to say that there is no person of interest investigators are focusing on. However, at this point, no one has been "totally cleared," Grandjean said. Heichel's husband Clint is not a suspect, Grandjean said.

At this point, there really aren't that many different kinds of cellphone charger types. Either your proprietary Apple-type charger, or mini/micro USB for Android phones. I'm sure it would be trivial for the people who found it to find a way to power it up. I don't think a lengthy comparison of different cellphone battery-life capacities is worth a lot of discussion space (or else we're all just going to end up reporting the average battery life of every cellphone we've ever had), but that's just me.

Service is spotty around the city, even. Our landscape just goes up and down and we have so many trees. Mine sometimes gets spotty even on Sunset Hwy.

I don't think Granjean slipped up in the presser. I do think he was confused as to the details of the case and couldn't even recall what was put out in the earlier press release.

:moo:

here is what he told everyone to refer to in terms of times at the press conference today (and was correct as to those times.. he just couldn't recall them):

A Gresham woman is missing and police are asking for the public's help in locating her.

Whitney Heichel of Gresham was reported missing by her husband after she did not show up to work. Police are treating this as a suspicious missing person case. The following is the timeline that detectives have been able to verify:

At 6:45 a.m. Heichel left her apartment at the 700 block of S.E. Hwy. 26 to go to work.
At 7:00 a.m. Heichel was supposed to be at work at Starbucks in East Gresham near Powell and Burnside, approximately five minutes from her home. She did not arrive.
At 9:56 a.m. Heichel's husband called 9-1-1 to report her missing.
At 12:30 p.m. friends and family reported that Heichel's ATM card was used at a gas station at 257th and S.E. Stark. Detectives have since verified that the card was used and her vehicle was indeed at the station at 9:14 a.m.
At 1:00 p.m. family and friends, who were looking for Heichel and distributing flyers, found her vehicle parked at the Walmart in Wood Village at 23500 N.E. Sandy. The vehicle's passenger side window had been broken out.
Police are asking anybody who might have seen Heichel or her vehicle to call the Gresham Police Tip Line at 503-618-2719 with any information. The vehicle is a black 1999 Ford Explorer with tinted taillights and Oregon license plate number 189 EJZ. Heichel is 5 feet 2 inches and 120 pounds.

Update

Here are the latest updates in the continued investigation of the disappearance of Whitney Heichel:

Investigators have confirmed that the vehicle and bank card were used at a service station at 257th and Stark at 9:14 a.m. The vehicle was found at Walmart in Wood Village at 23500 N.E. Sandy at 11:17 a.m. Police are interested in speaking to anybody who might have seen the vehicle between those hours, in particular in the areas between Walmart and the service stations. This would include the Troutdale area near I-84, as well as Fairview and Wood Village.
Police believe the vehicle may have been in the east Multnomah County area, east of Gresham and possibly into Sandy between the hours of 6:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Anybody who may have seen the vehicle in this area is asked to call the Gresham Police Department tips line at 503-618-2719. The vehicle is a 1999 Ford Explorer, black with tinted taillights. The license plate number is 189 EJZ (Oregon). At some point, the vehicle had its front passenger-side window broken out and could have been driving with the window broken out or appearing opened.
The East County Major Crimes Team has been activated and a team of 24 detectives are following leads and canvassing areas in which police believe Whitney to have been. There are detectives from Gresham, Fairview, Troutdale, Multnomah County and Oregon State Police involved in the investigation. Additionally, State Crime Lab Forensics is assisting with the processing of the vehicle found yester

I would think the perp would know the car would be found in the WM parking lot, so they may have been trying to avoid the cell phone (and any evidence on the cell phone) being found. IMO
