Michael Burham to be arraigned in escape, kidnapping cases Thursday

Since his escape from the Pennsylvania prison in July, resulting in nine days on the run, Burham has been back there under constant surveillance.

Michael Burham, the alleged rapist and arsonist also suspected in the Jamestown death of 34-year-old Kala Hodgkin this past May, is set to be arraigned on charges stemming from his alleged crimes south of New York.

Burham has been accused of numerous crimes after authorities say he kidnapped an elderly couple at gunpoint and later escaped from a Warren County, Pennsylvania prison. Documents from the Court of Common Pleas of Warren County (PA) say Burham is set to be formally arraigned Thursday morning in both cases — the escape and the alleged kidnapping.

#update #happening now: Michael Burham was in court this morning. He pleaded not guilty to both kidnapping and escaping. He had 33 criminal counts for kidnapping and 2 criminal criminal counts against him. @WGRZ

Fugitive Michael Burham pleaded not guilty to charges in two cases during his formal arraignment in Warren County court Thursday morning.

Maybe he read your post and it weighed on him. He just switched to guilty yesterday.

Judge Gregory J. Hammond sentenced Burham to the maximum, a total of 25 years two months to 50 years 4 months in state prison.

Burham had pleaded guilty to a host of charges — including kidnapping, false imprisonment, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, terroristic threats and burglary.

In court, Burham gave a brief apology to both the kidnap victims and the community. However, since he’s been held at the Erie County jail, Burham has been a menace. He’s even been accused of assaulting and throwing feces at corrections officers.

Michael Burham sentenced in connection to kidnapping and escape from Warren County Prison

Michael Burham has been sentenced in connection to the kidnapping of a couple in Pennsylvania and his escape from Warren County Prison in 2023.

The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General announced today that Burham was sentenced to 3 1/2 years to 7 years in prison for his escape from Warren County Prison and sentenced to 21 years and 8 months to 43 years and 4 months in the kidnapping case.

He was ordered to serve an aggregate sentence of 25 years and 2 months to 50 years and 4 months.

Burham also faces additional charges in New York in connection to a separate case. In early May Jamestown police announced Burham was a suspect in the homicide of 34-year-old Kala Hodgkin and offered a reward for information leading to his arrest.

The Chautauqua County District Attorney's office has previously said it would pursue charges in the Hodgkin case after the escape and kidnapping cases were complete.

Warren County Judge Gregory J. Hammond sentenced Burham to a total of a minimum of 25 years and two months to a maximum of 50 years and four months. Burham will not be eligible for parole until he serves the minimum sentence, when he will be about 60. If he is never paroled, he will be about 85 when he finishes serving the maximum sentence and is released.
