JUST IN — The preliminary hearing for escaped Chester Co. murderer Danelo Cavalcante has been continued to another date. Cavalcante appeared briefly on an in-court video monitor and said very little. He is represented by a public defender who declined to comment.

Friday's hearing is for the crimes police say Cavalcante committed while on the run after escaping from the Chester County Prison last August.

  • 11:03 a.m. Lawrence L.D. Hammond testifies Cavalcante stole a .22 caliber rifle from his garage . He saw him and said “Don’t do it.” He started to go after him and Cavalcante ran up a hill. Hammond says he fired four shots from a pistol at him. Didn’t hit him thought he might have. Hammond said the stolen .22 rifle was fully loaded.
  • 10:39 a.m. update: Drummond heard someone in the house and checked on kids. He woke up his wife and called 911. He looked down from bedroom door from the top stairs, flicked lights on and off to let the person know he was aware someone was downstairs. Drummond said the person flicked lights back, then walked out the door. The person was missing a white T shirt. At the time, Drummond told police he discovered missing items in his home, including a sleeping bag, backpack, shirt, razor and small knife.
  • 10:30 a.m. update: First witnesses, correction officers, testifying about Cavalcante escape. Video shows him scaling wall as prosecution looks to prove escape charge. Burglary coming up . Cavalcante is just listening. Ryan Drummond is next. He’s the resident who spotted Cavalcante in his house.
