Lt. Col. George Bivens told reporters Sunday that 34-year-old Danelo Souza Cavalcante stole the van Saturday night and then sought help from people he knew in East Pikeland Township and Phoenixville more than 20 miles to the northeast.

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. — Authorities say an escaped murderer who has eluded capture since breaking out of a southeastern Pennsylvania prison a week and a half ago slipped out of the search area, changed his appearance, stole a dairy delivery van, abandoning it miles away and remained at large.

This certainly paints a much different picture.

While he was "surrounded" in a small area, he was captured smiling on video 30 miles away with a new look and a new ride.

I have family in LE and strongly support them, but he is making LE look like the fool.

If he was truly "contained", every car in that area should have been stopped for a brief search. That might not have stopped his escape, as it appears the van was stolen outside the containment area, but it would have been good a good procedure especially with he amount of troopers we saw sitting in their cars.

We may not have seen the last of the resignations.

For now, we can hope for his over confidence carelessness from out-foxing LE.

Just my thoughts.

Yeah he was clearly never actually contained and while I do believe he may have genuinely been surrounded, he was clearly able to outsmart them and wriggle his way out of the situation, without being caught. JMO

IMO I think LE knows they are way over their heads and I really, really think they need to bring in outside help. I don't know who could be realistically brought in (FBI, National Guard?), but this situation is just frankly absurd and I both understand how overwhelmed LE is and how he is making them look like fools. They IMO need to try some other strategies because clearly what they are doing now is not working or else it wouldn't have been coming up on two weeks of him roaming around outside like a small woodland creature.

I also agree there will probably be more resignations coming up with how publicized and just outlandish this whole debacle is. IMO it will leave a lot of people cornered and looking less than stellar.

We can only hope he is overconfident and boxes himself in but unfortunately I'm not so sure. He unfortunately has shown himself to be IMO more resourceful than local LE and I really think they need to bring the big guns out soon, especially as people have speculated he may possibly cross state lines into Maryland - would that aspect make it a different, more serious type of crime? Idk. Just a thought.

Almost makes me wonder if possibly some of the other questionable sightings might have been someone else, maybe not even this suspect? Or possibly a decoy? Maybe someone running interference for him? MOO

Maybe there was just a possible sighting on the scanner

EDIT: K9 is out

I have kind of given myself a websleuths health day where I kind of avoid this site’s doom and gloom but my stepdaughter was just telling me that he stole a van and I had to come check in. At least Phoenixville is more than 10 miles away from me. I’m honestly blown away they haven’t caught him yet or even managed to keep him maintained within a perimeter. JMO

What if they simply drop their plan, to catch him? Because 1) this is what he is very good at, escaping 2) he is several steps ahead of them and 3) how much money, manpower or dogs can we spend on one criminal?

Try to minimize the danger to the people around because this is the main thing. Useless to ask his relatives to appeal to him to give in; he won't. Useless to spend the time and money to catch him, it is not about how he made the cops look.

(Keep in mind that many people are absolutely against helping LEO. I think that the only thing working against him in central PA is that he is Brazilian and the locals are anti-immigration.)

What do we need as the country since he can't be used for any decent job?

That he is out of the US. Anywhere. I don't care where, but he is not safe for us mostly by his presence here.

Negotiate with him and oust him out safely. I thought that to start with, he had to be in Brazilian prison, the place of his first offense. Let him live somewhere where there is the concept of blood revenge, and families don't forget. If here, he'd be fine, then get into drugs again (JMO) and commit another crime.

I know that my opinion is against everyone else's, but I am always for harm reduction. He will be a danger to us once he merges with our street population and uses the stuff they buy, K-2 or meth. Now, he is lucid and that helps him; but he also doesn't attack the locals.

I have those mental health days here as well!

I’m also not sure that he’s that smart. Clever at hiding, maybe, but smart wouldn’t drive a car til it runs out, or is about to run out, of gas and hope you land in an area where you can steal another one easily.

There are so many options for this guy. He has a lead and is resourceful ,but if PA law enforcement system is hiring 18 yr old as prison gaurds and calling them veterans of the prison system , I am concerned, I am not real sure how they train for things like this. I have not one 18 yr old responcible enough to hold a position like that and also to work for LE you gotta be 21 ,so was this correctional officer someones family member who got a good job as a perk for this kid? I dunno but I want to ..
Really 18 working in a prison? I mean..

This is southeastern Pennsylvania, not central. Generalizations about the center of the state aren't as sweepingly applicable out here. I wouldn't say we're anti-immigration, but very anti murderous fugitive on the run in our neighborhoods. I don't think most care that he's Brazilian, but care that he's a danger to anyone he might come in contact with and have forced people to live on edge and in fear for 11 days and counting now.

He worked for the prison for 18 years, so he was an 18 year veteran of working in the prison.
