An exceptionally bright child who regularly aces her schoolwork, Enci’s parents say she has nevertheless struggled for years with mental health troubles and spends a prolific amount of time online. They called that a dangerous combination that’s led to her being preyed upon by creeps from across the world.

“She’s missing, and she could be anywhere from California to Saudi Arabia based on the things we saw on her secret social media accounts that she was using pretty much 24 hours a day,” Gehrmann (step-father) said.

*****
The family fears that a predator she met online might have convinced Enci to flee home, and that she might have run off with them and gotten herself into grave danger.

*****
The teen’s parents have also hired a private investigator in hopes of tracking her down.

This quote from her NamUs profile. Someone called in a welfare check at 8pm and police showed up and her parents were surprised that she wasn’t in her room. Who was this who knew to call in a welfare check but wasn’t one of her parents? And it wasn’t even the middle of the night but early evening.

I don’t know quite how to say it so it comes out right, but coming from the perspective of having a daughter a similar age, the parents come across as very hands off in terms of supervision, but also very surprised that she had online access and was potentially communicating with people online. JMO

She sounds very smart. I hope she is safe and well and reaches out to someone.

Information in another local article:

She snuck out of her parents’ home carrying a small overnight bag.

Police were informed on Saturday that Wu had disposed of a secret cell phone and left the area before police arrived at a residence where she had been temporarily staying.

Granted that anyone can post a comment but this one sure raises the eyebrows considering we know zilch about the family and Aubrey.

Check out the comment in the article I referred to in my last post.
imo:
It appears that the person has some knowledge of the family and now reading what the mother/step father are saying about Aubrey I see it as a possible ruse from them.

Could a neighbor have seen her climbing out and become concerned? If so, interesting that their response was to call police immediately and not parents. MOO OMO

Do we know if all the neighbors were familiar with patients and had their contact information?

In a hypothetical situation where I happened to witness a minor climb out of a window and run away (either into a car or into the darkness) I would probably call the cops. But this is also because I don't know any of my neighbors.

Why the welfare check?
Step father originally said school had called. Story changed to her boyfriend's mother called because she hadn't been heard from for 24 hours. It was then stated that after the parents call police inquired with school and she was marked absent. The real reason? Only police know and are not saying.

“I think now the only thing is find Aubrey,” said her mother, Jade Wu. “Anybody who has any information, come forward, please. Say something. That’s my No. 1 focus.”

Wu and her husband, John Gehrmann, Aubrey’s stepfather, also expressed frustration over the length of the investigation.

“We don’t feel they have any sense of urgency,” Jade Wu said. “Right now, I don’t know if my daughter is alive or not.”

From the flier in that article:

“She is likely traveling with an adult and wearing make up to look older.”

Though, in my opinion, she already looks older than 14 so that wouldn’t be too difficult.
