Does anyone know if the FOIA can be used to get lists of missing persons? Arkansas has over 400 missing persons but only 35 of them have been made public. This is probably the case for other states as well.

You can try, but you'd have to figure out whether a central list exists and if so, what agency has control of it. One of the issues I ran into trying to get more information about Massachusetts' missing people was that there isn't any central list or reporting. The case reports are held by a variety of local police and sheriff's departments. So it basically worked out that I had to know the missing person I wanted info about before I could get the info. :pullhair::pullhair::pullhair:

That is disappointing and so frustrating! I believe that the FBI has master lists, when researching Snohomish Jane Doe I found that the investigator put in a request to the FBI of missing females who fit her description and got 39,000 pages of missing persons. I guess I don't understand why they wouldn't make these missing persons public to aid in locating them?

Instead of petitioning for info, try getting new laws passed requiring missing cases (and UIDs) be entered into NAMUS. Tennessee recently passed legislation requiring missing persons be entered into NAMUS after 30 days: VANISHED: Recent TN law could breathe new life into old missing persons cases
Michigan is also trying to get a similar law passed: Missing children cases could be solved 'a whole lot faster' under bill

If every state required it, then many more cases could be solved. JMO.

long shot - from the Marjorie West thread:

"Additional speculation pointed towards the Tennessee Children's Home Society near Memphis, Tennessee. The facility was operated by Georgia Tann, who was initially lauded for placing at-risk children in adoptive homes. Authorities eventually learned that Tann had kidnapped over 1200 young children during the years 1932 through 1951. The majority of victims were abducted from states bordering Tennessee, although some children resided in Connecticut. Judge Camille Kelly approved Tann's custody bids for the majority of the victims. Tann placed most of the children with childless couples in New York City, New York or Los Angeles, California. None of the theories have been proven and no one has been implicated in Marjorie's disappearance."

It's been while since I read the threads, so please disregard my post if it has been discussed earlier.

Does anyone have any suggestions to Beth Doe's letters and numbers in Yugoslavian? I know telephone numbers had a five digits, area codes were three digits, but no letters. Postal codes were five digits. For example, 47000 was the Karlovac area.

As for the Cyrillic alphabet, it can be noted that a latin "W" looks like a Serbian/Cyrillic "Ш", which is "Š", but that's pretty much it. I do believe Beth's writings were from the latin alphabet, but we should keep in mind her European background, IMO.

I might have missed it, but has Richard Cottingham been ruled out as a suspect?

Hi TRLC (do you have a certain color in mind. just joking a little bit) I can't recall he was ever brought up here....maybe it was one of his earlier victims...but I think there would be a lot more..going initially from rape to dismembering....

1200 kidnappings? That's alot. By what means was he doing it? Was he kidnapping them into his children's home or out of it? Was he ever charged?

How active is Beth Doe's case as of 2018? I mean, do you think someone has contacted her agency and suggested her case as a DNA Doe Project candidate?

She was a baby broker. She bribed or coerced young unmarried mothers into giving up their babies and then sold them to wealthy childless couples. Plus there were also outright kidnappings of children taken from their schools. I think she died before she could be prosecuted.

Georgia Tann - Wikipedia

But I'm not sure what it would have to do with Beth and her baby. Tann died in the early 1950's.

Some of these are already on our radar. For a few we’re already in contact with the agencies. We take into consideration our potential for success (e.g. whether sufficient DNA has been or can be extracted), potential for crowd-funding (if the agency cannot afford the test), and other factors. We cannot promise that we can take on any particular case. If we do, we make no guarantees that we can solve it.

It is important to remember that there are no guarantees that we can take a case. Typically we are only able to work on cases that involve unidentified victims (no babies or children) and also we aren't able to help on missing person cases or criminal cases. Remember, even if we do take a case, there are no guarantees that we can solve the case, or that the family will choose to release information.

Please feel free to reply with additional suggestions here, or message us, or email us at admin@dnadoeproject.org. (And if we overlooked an earlier suggestion, please remind us!)

Some of the Does have similar names, so it is always helpful if you can provide a Namus case # / link with more information, as well as place found, date found, etc. Thank you!

Yes, I am aware that she's been suggested to the DDP, but the way I've understood how this works, is that the agencies themselves have to approach the DDP:

We do not usually contact agencies on these cases ourselves, but if a case is very popular with the public, we want to be knowledgeable and prepared should the agency reach out to us.

Submitted for Consideration - DNA Doe Project Cases

To reformulate my original question: Is her agency aware of DNA Doe Project?

Unless someone has a contact with her agency, and that contact is willing to provide information, there's no way to know the answer to your question.

We can always hope, right? ;) I was wondering, because if not anyone of you had done it, I might've done it myself (although I think it's terrifying and my anxiety issues doesn't exactly get any better of that reason  )

Those that shop on Amazon; you can select DNA Doe Project as a charity to donate your shopping trip proceeds to, you just have to shop thru the Amazon Smiles website. I believe they're going to post about it. I told Colleen 3 months ago about it so they've missed 3 months of donations. With holiday shopping starting, I'm hoping it can make a difference to a few Doe cases!
