Partially Wrapped Gifts

Distancing for Burke. That's why she would take the risk of lying. At the time she couldn't have anticipated that it would later be found that Burke had actuallly done it (probably from one of his interviews). Here's what Kolar wrote about it:

There had been another discrepancy in one of Patsy Ramsey’s law enforcement interviews that caught my attention. Investigators had noted that the wrapping paper on a pair of Christmas presents observed in the Wine Cellar at the time of the discovery of JonBenét’s body had been torn. She told the detectives that she couldn’t remember what was contained in the presents, and hence the need to tear back part of the paper.

I learned, over the course of my inquiry, that it was Burke who had actually been responsible for tearing back the paper of the presents while playing in the basement on Christmas Day, and I wondered why Patsy would claim responsibility for doing this. Patsy had also told investigators that the unwrapped box of Lego toys in the same room was being hidden for Burke’s upcoming January birthday.

I didn’t give much thought about the presence of Christmas presents in the room at the time, but would later think these played a role in some of the events that took place on Christmas day.

Nice post as are all your posts. :loveyou:

Even if Burke did partially open some gifts, Patsy also could have peaked trying to find the package of panties originally meant for niece Jenny but instead used on JonBenet. So, it could be a cover-up for Burke ... but it could not be.

BOESP,
If Patsy wrapped the gifts why does she need to open them to see what is inside, is she playing pass the parcel with herself?

If Patsy was looking for the size-12's, presuming she found them, why did she tell investigators that she placed them into JonBenet's underwear drawer at her request?

The status of these Partially Opened gifts seems nebulous at best, and the more I learn, the more I move towards BR doing the opening and Patsy doing her best to cover for him, as per the GJ charges, i.e. Assisting an Offender.

Well, I would assume the panties were wrapped in FAO Schwarz since Patsy said she had them wrapped and shipped home from New York where they were bought. However, maybe they used Christmas paper. Anyway, as many gifts as there were it would be fairly easy to forgot what was what, imo, because I can't remember for my own household and we have no where near that many gifts. It truly is easy to forget unless there are name tags. Patsy was also likely extremely agitated and not thinking logically ... she could have just been making a frantic search.

Besides, it may mean nothing other than Patsy knows what happened in the basement because she was a participant or only participant and she doesn't want Burke's peeking through presents to be associated with what happened down there at the wine cellar since all he did was peak at presents and didn't participate.

I can see both ways: points to Burke or just points to Patsy not wanting her actions blamed on Burke.

I don't have an opinion on why Patsy told investigators she put the panties in JonBenet's drawer at JonBenet's request (especially since no size 12s were found in the drawer). I'd need to think about it before answering.

The Bloomi's were bought at Bloomingdale's in NY. Were they gift wrapped there? The items bought at FAO Schwartz in NY were wrapped and shipped to their home in Boulder.

1 Q. The underwear that she was
2 wearing, that is Bloomi's panties, do you

4 store?
5 A. Bloomingdales in New York.
6 Q. Who purchased those?
7 A. I did.
8 Q. Do you recall when you purchased
9 them?
10 A. It was, I think, November of '96.

That's what I used to assume, but is it valid? Its pretty obvious to me that Patsy is playing pass the parcel with the opened gifts questions.

I reckon Patsy is covering for Burke, plain and simple.

Back to Jason Bourne, he is now in Berlin and being tracked on his mobile ...

My mom would sometimes untape a side of a present because she couldn't remember whose it was (she would have things bought and wrapped months ahead sometimes) however she immediately taped it back good as new. It seems weird to just leave them without retapping. Even if Burke was peaking he would know to fix them back up. Unless one of them were interrupted at the time.

There was no re-taping these presents. The paper was demolished. If I can find the photograph, I'll post it.

My booboo. Sorry for the confusion about which store the panties came from. Can you tell I'm not a high-end shopper.

Great points! To my way of thinking, most boys probably wouldn't think of re-taping, especially concrete thinkers like Burke (as opposed to abstract thinkers). I'd guess Patsy was so distraught and running out of time that it didn't occur to her to re-tape packages.

no worries - there's no beer cans at Bloomingdale's anyway:drumroll:

MURDERER_SERVANT,
Thanks for the image. Now the pictures explain exactly why Burke was snooping about the basement Christmas Day, yet Kolar says this:
I didn’t give much thought about the presence of Christmas presents in the room at the time, but would later think these played a role in some of the events that took place on Christmas day.
How can we connect Burke Ramsey's Lego Gifts with JonBenet being killed?

Kolar refers to them as Christmas Presents, yet it was Christmas Day Burke allegedly opened them?

On the face of it BR opening gifts in advance is hardly a felony so why would Patsy cover for him?

What is being hidden, is it knowledge of the size-12's e.g. Burke Ramsey's?

Knowing, even being able to infer Burke Ramsey handled the size-12's, that Burke Ramsey handled the size-12's explains why Kolar thinks its BDI All.

This means Patsy knows who dressed JonBenet in the size-12's and why, she is taking a bullet for Burke Ramsey, by saying she put the size-12's into JonBenet's underwear drawer.

With no size-12's present this must mean it was Burke Ramsey who hid them, possibly even left the house with them?

What role could those gifts have played unless Kolar is being cryptic and indirectly saying, Burke Ramsey definitely opened the wrapping on the Christmas Gift intended for Patsy's niece?

Alternatively maybe Patsy hid the remaining size-12's and took the bullet, simply to dissociate Burke Ramsey from the size-12's and JonBenet wearing a pair?

Still we are left with Patsy saying she, conveniently, dressed JonBenet in Burke Ramsey's long johns, and this was normal?

It smells from over here in the UK, it looks like a cover up by the parents?

.

I have also read speculation that Burke was unhappy about his booty Christmas Day. It looks like Patsy and JonBenet received bicycles and he didn't. I think it's possible he was checking out in the basement what he might be getting to open for the Michigan trip. I think this fed into his frenzied jealousy that had a very unhappy ending. I find it very suspect there were hardly any pictures of Christmas Day. Maybe there was evidence the Ramsey didn't want anyone seeing.

I'm just trying to get an idea of the room -- so then, the gifts were on top of the in-floor safe, and JBR's body would have been lain right in front/next to these gifts, correct?

Right , probably in front of these gifts.
I just don't think the new Bloomingsdale panties would be hidden there .

^ Thanks MS, and you're right, they wouldn't. The only logical gifts that would be hidden in this room would be toys, hence the makeshift lock that was located at the top of the door (that was out of range for any child).

Does anyone think a Lego farm set is a bit young for a ten year old?
