Wonder how he paid the first two weeks in Tac Hotel. Oh, wait, the Chinese owners have been muzzled!

He had at least $10,000 in cash when he landed in Peru. I would imagine he paid cash. Now he might try to suggest that EG gave him the cash but I still doubt it very much.

MOO

But, as I understand it, now he's complaining about the Chilean police. Once again, he's crying wolf, because I don't think he was actually arrested in Chile just held on an Interpol alert that he was wanted in Peru:

"Joran van der Sloot...was expelled to Lima on Friday after being taken into custody by Chilean police the previous day ... after INTERPOL Peru alerted the international law enforcement community that he was wanted in connection with the death of 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez..."

http://www.interpol.int/Public/ICPO/PressReleases/PR2010/News20100609.asp

There's also a newspaper article from the Peru govt thanking Chile for just 'expelling' Joran, instead of 'extraditing' him, which is a much lengthier process, but I don't have that link at my fingertips.

Here's the video of when Joran is being handed over from Chile / Interpol to the Peruvian LE....there were all kinds of papers signed...and they have it on film.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xI4eOf9VDg&feature=related

Followed by Joran signing documents for the PLE after the transfer is complete:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hfjw5S7KaHk&feature=related

(This is the video that the national media keeps showing as Joran signing his confession....which is totally WRONG!!)

I'm working on getting together the entire set of videos showing his arrest in Chile to his transfer to Peru. Once I have it all together, I'll post it on the media link.

The "expelling" was kind of odd as opposed to "extraditing". Normally only done to country of origin IMO which was not Peru but Aruba/The Netherlands.
They surely must have done some short cuts.

It's hard to tell in the toxicology report if they tested all these drugs based on "ocina" (urine) or "sangre" (blood) or both.

Stephany wasn't with Joran that many hours. I would think that nothing would be absorbed into the system after her death once the heart stops beating.

Somehow I doubt that Peru plays the technicality games that the US does. I think they are going to show him where to put his technicalities.

Since this case is in the world spotlight, Peru will probably go by the books, even on technicalities. Just let us hope they did not make any big procedural errors.

I am posting the link to the primary source used for the Wiki info on Rohypnol (flunitrazepam). This Technical paper, explains the detection of "date rape drugs". University: Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmacodynamics (M/C 865) College of Pharmacy University of Illinois at Chicago.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flunitrazepam#Pharmacokinetics

snip
"Flunitrazepam has a long half-life of 18 – 26 hours and an active metabolite which has a half life of 36-200 hours, which means flunitrazepam effects after nighttime administration persist throughout the next day. Residual 'hangover' effects after nighttime administration of flunitrazepam, such as sleepiness and impaired psychomotor and cognitive functions, may persist into the next day. This may impair the ability of users to drive safely, and increase risks of falls and hip fractures.
Flunitrazepam is lipophilic and is metabolised hepatically via oxidative pathways. The enzyme CYP3A4 is the main enzyme in its phase 1 metabolism."

[edit]

snip:
"In recent news it has been discovered that scientists can now detect flunitrazepam and related compounds in urine at least up to 5 days after administration of a single dose of Rohypnol and up to a month in hair."

I am posting from a micro-keyboard. Hope this goes through intact.

Actually a lot of the younger crowd likes to play Texas Hold'em Poker. In Texas Hold'em the house takes a percentage of the pot but the players play against each other.

Duh, I knew that. My sons play. Thanks for that.

I am saying this because you make a very good point, we don't know what she consumed or used or anything before she met up with Joran. I heard reports that she had been with either one or two girls at a hotel all day. I actually believe someone on this forum posted that. Maybe not true, but still we don't know what she did prior to meeting him at the casino. jmo

amphetemines could cover diet pills right?

Amphetamine-based diet pills ensure you’ll lose more than just weight

Looking to lose a little weight this New Year? Well, despite how attractive some diet pills may sound, you may want to steer clear of certain pills from South America. Besides being illegal and banned by the FDA, the drug known as fenproporex also happens to be an amphetamine. So while it may help you drop some pounds, it will also put at a high risk for health problems as well as making it impossible for you to pass drug screens and so may cost you your job.

Reading about this drug gave me a "aha moment".

Oh how I wish Joran had a female lawyer.......telling him what to do and when to do it. We all know what he thinks of women, don't we !!

It was stated that she dropped off two of her friends that she was with and then returned to the casino.

Flores left the casino to drop off some girlfriends at 2:35 a.m. Sunday but then apparently returned to the casino.

Detection of Rohypnol & Rohyphol metabolites...continued.
The upshot of the technical paper, is that:
1. The "Micro-plate enzyme immunoassay method" allows one to detect flunitrazepam and related compounds in urine at least up to 5 days after administration of a single dose of Rohypnol® (like in drug-facilitated sexual assault scenarios). This significant increase in the detection time interval is possible if the enzymatic hydrolysis of urine and solid-phase extraction are applied.

If death "intervenes", as one post back there asked, it is my thinking, that at autopsy, one could pull a suprapubic aspiration of urine. Even if there was a release of the bladder contents during this violent struggle and ultimately brutal death, there would still be some residual urine in the bladder.

The paper goes on to discuss various methods of extracting metabolites from hair. Interestingly enough, at the time this paper was written, there was no method for detecting GHB from hair.

The key component to detection, is to use the most current methods for extracting the drug or drug metabolite. If one applied the use of the more sensitive testing method (namely: solid-phase extraction and highly sensitive gas chromatography - mass spectrometry with negative ion monitoring chemical ionization), one could detect 7- aminoflunitrazepam, the flunitrazepam major metabolite, in urine 14 days after administration of a single dose of Rohypnol®

Not much about him these days.

The Albanian citizen Elton Garcia (35) shared gaming table with the young Stephany Flores and his alleged murderer, Dutchman Joran van der Sloot at a poker international competition took place in our capital.

García, Uruguayan citizen, was staying since May in the same hotel as Van der Sloot and where it was found the young Stephany . La policía lo citó a declarar en la Dirincri en el marco de las investigaciones para esclarecer el homicidio ocurrido el domingo. The police summoned as witnesses in Dirincri under investigation to clarify the murder occurred on Sunday.

Thanks so much for this--my brain must have slipped a cog re Elton Garcia! At least we know he isn't a figment of JVDS' imagination!

MOO
You could be right. However, they both ended up staying in the same hotel. Coincidence?
EG was already there. He could have arranged Jorans' room 309, the one with the camera pointing at it.

snipped by me

Here's an interesting article from 13:15 on June 3:

"Joran Van Der Sloot, [who] was arrested at noon in Santiago de Chile, could be released because the country has not yet ... received the international arrest warrant." BUT, since he wasn't released, they must have gotten the warrant, thus allowing them to keep him in custody, then expel him to Peru.

http://www.larepublica.pe/sociedad/03/06/2010/chilenos-podrian-dejar-libre-van-der-sloot

So, once again, Joran is just blowing smoke. IMO

Added; Sorry, my version is automatically translated to English...but when posted here it reverts to Spanish.

Here is how I remember it went down.

Chile labeled Joran an "undesirable" and escorted him from their country.

Chile conveniently expelled him across their boarder into Peru where Peruvian L.E. was waiting for him with a warrant and they graciously exclaimed "Welcome to Peru" :behindbar:

I'd like to see the three judge panel be composed of three women.

Yep, the other choice they had was putting him on a plane to Aruba.

Could JVDS be set FREE from jail? Beacause of technicality problems.

Please everyone keep your fingers crossed!!!

I hope not. He needs to be locked up for the rest of his natural life IMO.
Frankly, I do not care where that is, as long as he is removed from society.

It looks to me like that's what he and his attorney are trying to get.

I can't see how that would happen with all of the evidence they have but anything is possible. If that were to happen it's my understanding that the US can arrest him next because of his extortion. Maybe he should have thought twice before accusing the FBI of luring him to Peru and ticked them off. ;-)
