Sources: Joran van der Sloot Seeking $1 Million TV Deal
Joran Van Der Sloot Offers to Tell Tale for $1 Million, Sources Say

By JOHN QUINONES, SARAH KUNIN and LEE FERRAN
July 1, 2010

Joran van der Sloot may be behind bars in an infamous Peruvian jail on murder charges, but that didn't stop the 22-year-old gambler from trying to strike it rich yet again – this time through a potentially lucrative television deal.

According to sources within the Castro Castro prison where van der Sloot has been held since his early June arrest for the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez, the Dutchman has attempted to sell an on-camera interview for $1 million. No deal has been made so far, the sources said.

Though he's in prison, a $1 million payout could still be extremely valuable, former FBI agent and ABC News consultant Brad Garrett said.

"It gives him more power in prison, his ability to buy things, his ability to manipulate other inmates to get whatever he wants – being a taker," Garrett told "Good Morning America" today.

So do you all think Castro Castro would allow a camera in for an interview with joran?

As we know, cameras were allowed in previously for which I believe was a PR stunt. Even then, joran was whisked away.

Remembering the life of Stephany Flores
Posted: 10:14 AM ET

Lima, Peru – Almost 300 people filled a Lima temple Wednesday, to remember Stephany Flores on the one month anniversary of her death. Flores' father, Ricardo Flores, told friends and family who attended the memorial that parents can learn from the death of his daughter.

"Sometimes we're wrong and I have been wrong a lot. I have permitted my kids to know the good and not the bad; my kids have everything but also we have to take away from them sometimes," Flores said in Spanish.

Flores choked up at the end of his brief address as he asked members of Peru's National Police Chorus to sing "Eternal Love" while a series of photographs depicting his daughter from childhood to adulthood flashed on a projector screen.

One of Flores' longtime friends remembered the 21-year-old as "a great friend" with a "contagious smile." Alexandra Infante said Flores was nicknamed "Flowers."

Carolina Jorge, a sister-in-law of Flores, described the 21-year-old as always being filled with love and happiness. Flores' younger brother, Ricardo Flores Ramirez, read a passage from Isaiah. The hour long service was one of three held on Wednesday. It took place at, Al Templo de la Alianza Cristiana y Misionera de Monterrico, the temple where Stephany's mother worships

RIP STEPHANY FLORES

YW - I agree, I also like to take the word of someone or several people who live there, that's why I consulted my family.

Then it's very likely just a matter of opinion from different people. You did quote the link from Wiki, and as far as I see, he has substantial accreditation to his name. Thank you.
The only thing I wonder about is who feeds the Wiki. When a pro-Joran lawyer in USA took over the Natalee Wiki site, favoritism showed to VDS.

I read somewhere that Joran doesn't want to see any media, just his mother. In some recent Docu?

If I understood the description of the law correctly, convicted criminals cannot profit from their crimes. But until and unless Joran is convicted, he can rack up the dough from interviews... is that right???

Well first off the top, the Feds want to retrieve the extortion money. Joran has been indicted in USA. So once he's finished his Peru sentnece, America wants him for 50 years.

Hi everyone, newbie here.
I've read quite a bit about this case on several blogs/forums and have not seen anything noted about this. Radaronline showed a crime scene photo of items belonging to Stephany, and it included 2 lighters. This makes me believe she was a smoker. Her friends and family claim she was very athletic and avoided all drugs though. The casino video clearly shows a pack of Marlboros in front of Joran. He even fiddles with it. All that we see in front of SF is her small coin purse. I see no ashtrays on the poker table, so I assume players have to go elsewhere to smoke. Is there any footage of SF smoking? Maybe with Joran? I have also seen a photo of SF with girlfriends sitting at a table. The girl sitting next to SF is smoking and holding the cigarette not far from Stephany's face, and there is a pack on the table within her reach. Does anyone know why SF had 2 lighters on her person?

I think he's changing his mind (again) for the $million, isn't he?

Here's what I remember reading about interviews with JVDS:

"...the director of Castro Castro prison tried to persuade Joran Van der Sloot to be interviewed by CNN about the excellent conditions in his cell and the proper treatment he received. Joran refused to cooperate and was taken from his cell so that journalists could have access to his residence."

"Sources say the 6-foot-4-inch Dutchman is not granting interviews unless he is paid."

WELCOME! That's a very interesting question. :waitasec: I haven't seen or read anything about those lighters or about Stephany smoking!

Welcome.

Joran was also a sporter and supposedly avoided all drugs but we found out different, didn't we? Come to think of it, Joran's teeth from the age of 17 also looked yellowish on pictures.
I noticed Stepheny had yellowish teeth but that could also come from drinking tea.
I find that many people don't consider smoking cigarettes as a drug addiction and possibly her family don't either. Maybe they didn't know she smoked, if she did.
I've never seen footage with Stepheny smoking. Would it make a difference? Are you implying her family may have lied about Stepheny smoking and they may be lying about other things as well?
If she did smoke, does it make a difference?

That's strange because the time-stamp on the casino video shows Stephany entering the casino at 2:56 am. It appears the time-stamp when she enters the casino was added later by the media, but the casino camera time-stamp clearly shows her at the poker table at 02:57 am.

I doubt that Stephany called her friend from the casino. The only explanation I can see is that the times on the casino camera and her cell phone were not in synce, similar to the 11 minute time difference noted at the hotel between the lobby camera and the camera outside the room.

In an interview, wasn't it her father that said, that Stepheny had said she was happier than she had been before, on that particular weekend??
I can't see Joran giving her joy, as per the casino videos we see he walked before her, picked up his keys at Tac desk with a smug "playboy" look and then led the way. Stepheny behind him like a lamb to slaughter. The way she looked/walked there still haunts me. Then he doesn't even hold the door for her, walks in first. No gentlemanly actions at all.

No no, not suggesting the family is lying at all. I just find it interesting that she supposedly had 2 lighters, and yet no mention at all anywhere about cigarettes or smoking. Most every other minute detail has been discussed...

Well it is interesting yes. You are correct, everything else has been discussed, seemingly. Smoker's teeth show quit well in most photos and I did think that she probably did smoke. Mr. Flores did mention earlier that Stepheny was a bit of a rebel or something to that affect. I think someof the third world countries are just getting to that "smoking is cool" phase, while those of us from more modern countries have been through that and are trying to turn that around. Why 2 lighters? One may have been low?

Hi asiabrasil and WELCOME! I just looked again at the picture I think your referring. The two items I think you mention that one is a USB flash drive. The other appears to be a USB air card for connection to the internet via computer. Both items have a USB connector at the end of each.

It does bring up a question though, we haven't heard anything about Stephany's computer. If those items belong to her I don't think they'd work with her phone.

Good question!
I used to know " sometime" smokers, when I was younger in my club days. they only smoked when they were out on the town, the cigarette was like a "prop". I don't know why a non smoker carries a lighter ( or 2 ) unless it was one of her friend's lighters and she was somehow keeping up with it for them. Had it in the pocket of her pants, etc.

Younger people sometimes smoke those clove cigarettes, still as bad as tobacco but popular in years past.

Maybe smoking cigarettes is not considered drug use, or maybe she smoked but her parents were not aware. That last one would be the most logical.

HA! Thank you Peliman! I also saw the items described as lighters. I wondered why there was no flash drive in his items ( when apprehended )for Jorans computer and Stephany had $1000 from her father to buy a computer. Maybe they are Jorans?

I know they are shown as her items but then the next question is why would she bring them to the room unless she was iintending to use a computer, his. and did she already buy the computer her father gave her money to buy....and where is it??

As a smoker, I always have at least 2 lighters with me, especially when I used to go out. (Little old for that now.) Most times, someone needs a light and keeps your lighter, or, in the alternative, you set it on the table and forget it, or someone borrows it and keeps it. Just like pens, if people pick them up, they automatically put it in their pocket or wherever as a reflex action.

Always need at least 2.
