HA! Thank you Peliman! I also saw the items described as lighters. I wondered why there was no flash drive in his items ( when apprehended )for Jorans computer and Stephany had $1000 from her father to buy a computer. Maybe they are Jorans?

I wondered also but don't have the answer.

Say if we play crazy 8's, what's the ante? ;)

Hi asiabrasil and WELCOME! I just looked again at the picture I think your referring. The two items I think you mention that one is a USB flash drive. The other appears to be a USB air card for connection to the internet via computer. Both items have a USB connector at the end of each.

It does bring up a question though, we haven't heard anything about Stephany's computer. If those items belong to her I don't think they'd work with her phone.

Can you tell me what thread those pictures are on? I remembered them as being lighters. I just want to take another look. tia

I am sure the sister in law said that after they saw the video of SF and Joran in the casino when she got home she went upstairs to SF room and looked him up on her (SF's) computer.

Course that doesn't mean she couldn't have had a desk top at home and a laptop too. We heard that her father had given her $1000.00 to buy a laptop, but I haven't heard anyone say that she indeed bought one.

But, if she did why were they going to his room to use his? Unless he had more poker software on his. jmo

Thanks for pointing that out. A lot has been discussed about LE searching his computer, but I think most people store/backup their important docs on their USB drives, especially when travelling (in case the laptop gets stolen). I expect they have already downloaded the information contained on these.

In an interview, wasn't it her father that said, that Stepheny had said she was happier than she had been before, on that particular weekend??
I can't see Joran giving her joy, as per the casino videos we see he walked before her, picked up his keys at Tac desk with a smug "playboy" look and then led the way. Stepheny behind him like a lamb to slaughter. The way she looked/walked there still haunts me. Then he doesn't even hold the door for her, walks in first. No gentlemanly actions at all.

BBM. It could be that Stephany was happy because she was on a winning streak at the Casino (that would make me happy). Seems like JVDS hasn't given anyone anything but grief.

Nevertheless, I'm glad to hear that in general, Stephany was in a good place in her life and happy up until the fateful end.

I'm unfamiliar with everything mentioned but what I read here, she may have had more than one computer. I am aware that many 3'rd world countries don't have the same access and some maybe better. A friend of mine third world uses air-cards exclusively. Will check some more when I get home tonight. The tip off to me was the USB ports at the bottom of the cards.

When Joran asked to have curtains in his cell, the first thing that went through my mind, was that he wanted to commit suicide.

He already knows that stuffing something into ones mouth and blocking the airway, results in death (like he stuffed his shirt into Stephany's mouth). Having curtains would allow him some privacy to do whatever was necessary.

If he can see no way out (and thankfully, it looks that there is not) for him, then I can see him taking his own life and thereby robbing everyone that cares about Stephany and Natalie, of justice.

If you are interested, this is the interview where they are talking about the sister in law and how the family found out about Joran.

It is almost to the end. Pretty intersting interview.jmo

If I understood the description of the law correctly, convicted criminals cannot profit from their crimes. But until and unless Joran is convicted, he can rack up the dough from interviews... is that right???

That's the way I understand it. IMO, the law needs to be drastically changed so that a suspect and their family, friends, acquaintances, etc. can not profit in any manner unless and until completely exonerated. This should include licensing fees from media outlets.

So do you all think Castro Castro would allow a camera in for an interview with joran?

As we know, cameras were allowed in previously for which I believe was a PR stunt. Even then, joran was whisked away.

Everything has a price.

Van der Sloot Exclusive: Last Text Messages of Stephany Flores

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-20009405-504083.html

snipped:

According to the documents, it was 3:06 a.m. May 30 when the young 21-year-old student unknowingly sent what would be her final text message to a friend stating she was "going up," and would call her friend "right away."

From your link:

Loved ones tried to reach the missing student on June 1 to no avail. The final words to Flores in the document are a heartfelt text message from her friend: "Rest in peace. You are the best in my life. Thank you for everything."

Maybe I'm reading this wrong or it's out of context? It's not very clear. The article is discussing text messages. Is the above a text message sent from one of Stephany's friends on June 1st? Her body wasn't discovered until 6/2. :waitasec:

Under the picture of her belongings is a written inventory.

1 cellular holder
1 cellular phone
1 pen
2 lighters
1 wallet

This is on the right side of the picture

Objects belonging to Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez One cellular case, one cellular phone, one pen, two lighters, one purse

THat is how it reads to me. That is creepy. Maybe a translation problem? But, it has been 3 days since she has been seen or heard from. just don't know.

Yes, it's very odd and... disturbing. The article refers to police documents re: text messages.

Transcriptions of the last voicemails received by Flores are also in the documents. After that text message, the same friend left two voicemails begging her Stephany to return her phone call. "It's really urgent that you call me they are looking for you everywhere," reads the first message. The phone records show eight missed calls on the slain student's phone the day after she was murdered, including one call from her mother and one from her father.

Loved ones tried to reach the missing student on June 1 to no avail. The final words to Flores in the document are a heartfelt text message from her friend: "Rest in peace. You are the best in my life. Thank you for everything."

It certainly sounds like this message - the last text message received on Stephany's phone - was sent on 6/1. But why would her friend send such a final goodbye message like that on 6/1 when her body wasn't discovered until 6/2??

Hi everyone, newbie here.
I've read quite a bit about this case on several blogs/forums and have not seen anything noted about this. Radaronline showed a crime scene photo of items belonging to Stephany, and it included 2 lighters. This makes me believe she was a smoker. Her friends and family claim she was very athletic and avoided all drugs though. The casino video clearly shows a pack of Marlboros in front of Joran. He even fiddles with it. All that we see in front of SF is her small coin purse. I see no ashtrays on the poker table, so I assume players have to go elsewhere to smoke. Is there any footage of SF smoking? Maybe with Joran? I have also seen a photo of SF with girlfriends sitting at a table. The girl sitting next to SF is smoking and holding the cigarette not far from Stephany's face, and there is a pack on the table within her reach. Does anyone know why SF had 2 lighters on her person?

WELCOME to the board. You will meet a lot of nice people here. Enjoy, Abs.

snipped, BBM

I think the bolded wording is just misleading. It doesn't actually say that the final message was on June 1. :waitasec: Just add it to the already lengthy list of confusing statements on this case!!!

Ahh... I think you may be right, FLNY. I may have been reading it wrong. Thanks!

(But now that it raised my eyebrows, I sure would like to know the date of that text.)

Gimme $1M for TV talk

The 22-year-old van der Sloot is said to be looking for a $1 million fee from the same Dutch TV production company, Global Star, that paid his mother a six-figure fee for a TV interview that was shown here on ABC last week.

For the interview with his mother, Anita, Global Star staged a high-stakes auction among the US networks that ABC News won with a bid described by insiders as over $100,000.

Paying for interviews is a hot potato on TV right now, with all the networks claiming they don't pay for news. But through various other means -- like paying outside production companies for footage or paying for the right to family photos -- TV news has been able to skirt its own rules.

The clips were clearly labeled as being bought from an outside source and the money, according to the production company, went to van der Sloot's lawyers for his defense.

I read something like this in the local paper weeks ago... Stephany dropped off a friend at her house and told her that she was going home, but went to the casino instead. Her friend tried calling her and Stephany sent her a text saying that she was "going upstairs" (to her bedroom, making her friend think that she was at home).

Friends, don't worry about Joran cashing in with a million dollar interview or two. If some "journalists" pony up a mllion or two for Joran to do Round 162 of "Joran Lies About His Involvement in the Murder of a Young Woman," the Holloway and Flores families can sue, sue, sue. (A couple of civil suits with their depositions will kill the future market for Joran stories by flooding the market with new Joran lies, these ones told under oath.) Then of course the US government wants the extortion money back, plus $100; they might also want to levy a big fat fine in addition to years in a US prison, once he finally pays his debt to society in Peru. Joran's own lawyer will want a cut. And what about taxes? Does Aruba tax income? As a resident of a Peruvian prison, will he have to pay taxes there? Don't we think John Q. Kelly might have some novel ways to see that Joran doesn't profit from his evil deeds?

Once again, Joran has failed to think beyond the next move. What a poker player he must be.
