Under the picture of her belongings is a written inventory.

1 cellular holder
1 cellular phone
1 pen
2 lighters
1 wallet

This is on the right side of the picture

Objects belonging to Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez One cellular case, one cellular phone, one pen, two lighters, one purse

I was thinking maybe one of her girlfriends is a smoker ( Asiabrasil already pointed this out ) and maybe the lighters were in her possession in the car and Joran brought them up and discarded them. But the reason why she would have them in the first place ( if she isn't a smoker ) was to light her girlfriends smokes. ( she was a lesbian and maybe it was a gesture. You know, a man lights a ladys cigarette for her ? )

That's strange because the time-stamp on the casino video shows Stephany entering the casino at 2:56 am. It appears the time-stamp when she enters the casino was added later by the media, but the casino camera time-stamp clearly shows her at the poker table at 02:57 am.

I doubt that Stephany called her friend from the casino. The only explanation I can see is that the times on the casino camera and her cell phone were not in synce, similar to the 11 minute time difference noted at the hotel between the lobby camera and the camera outside the room.

MOO

In Steph's message what does "going up" mean? It seems abrupt (shorthand) implying foreknowledge of her friend, that her friend would
know what "going up" means and with who?

Had Steph already informed her friend ... 'Im invited to go up to Joran's room after we play table poker tonight' ?

How else would Steph's friend know what "going up" means?
The message implies foreknowledge and pre-arrangment?

In an interview, wasn't it her father that said, that Stepheny had said she was happier than she had been before, on that particular weekend??
I can't see Joran giving her joy, as per the casino videos we see he walked before her, picked up his keys at Tac desk with a smug "playboy" look and then led the way. Stepheny behind him like a lamb to slaughter. The way she looked/walked there still haunts me. Then he doesn't even hold the door for her, walks in first. No gentlemanly actions at all.

I agree. I also wonder what had gone on in the days before we may not
know about. The message between Steph and her friend implies the friend
will know what "going up" means. Did the friend know Steph was saying:
'Im going to go up with Joran'? :waitasec:

Have to look for a link but right after she was discovered it was in print that the message was " going up stairs to my bedroom".

Good question, still looking for the earlier version of that message.

I read something like this in the local paper weeks ago... Stephany dropped off a friend at her house and told her that she was going home, but went to the casino instead. Her friend tried calling her and Stephany sent her a text saying that she was "going upstairs" (to her bedroom, making her friend think that she was at home).

That may explain this, but why lie?

O/T, no, but I know what " going down" is.
O I am bad....

She had dropped two girlfriends off at their homes several hours earlier. El Comercio, citing a police report, said she sent a text message to one to tell her she was "walking up the stairs to my bedroom."

Guardia said he could not confirm the report.

I thought of that but....
'Sometimes" smokers (cigarettes or weed) don't normally carry lighters in their designer jeans pockets just in case.
She is (for a woman) packing extremely lightly. No purse, no fanny pack, nothing except for a cell phone, that teeny coin purse, a pen, and 2 lighters. The very first thing I noticed in the video of her entering the casino was her lack of a normal sized purse. Now, maybe in Peru with the high crime rate, women don't carry purses, but at any rate, she carried almost nothing with her, therefore the lighters must have been important to her for some reason.

The other possibility of course is that they were Joran's and somehow Peru LE mistakenly noted them as hers. That would be really strange if true.

they could have been noted as hers if Joran brought them up to the room to use after he moved her car, and the fingerprints on them are from her and an unidentified person ( g/f).

If SF was in a relationship with one of the friends, she may have lied about her intended whereabouts to avoid an argument.
Same as men and women.
IMO

I have wondered for some time what the real purpose of going to the hotel room was. As I said when the hotel video first came out, it looks to me as if they were on a mission, not going there to hang out. Stephany's demeanor, to me, looked like it was a duty to go there with him. She did not get up promptly when he got the keys, she lagged behind without any enthusiasm (clearly, she was not falling down/off-balance drunk or drugged though).

And, I think we all agree that there is some grain of truth in JVS's statements (even though it's hard to figure out which grain that might be) that he plays off of to come up with some far-fetched tale.

As I have thought about this, and what they may have talked about at the table that night, some of the dots connect up to support a theory that Stephany went to the room at JVS's behest for her to consider BUYING JVS's laptop.

Anyone else see these dots as connecting? JVS claimed they went to his room "for his laptop".That could be the grain of truth in his statement (although in his version was to play poker on it). He may have considered on his ride to Chile that her fingerprints/DNA would be on his laptop (because he encouraged her to "try it out"), so he thought, perhaps, that he either had to account for that, or that DNA on his laptop would "confirm" his version of events (i.e., went there to play poker, she saw email b/c she was on the computer).

And of course, they probably would have talked that very night about the fact that she just got money from her dad to buy a new laptop. They probably also talked about her business plans. I can imagine Joran telling her he had a really great, state-of-the-art, almost brand new laptop he picked up in Thialand for next to nothing back at his hotel room that he'd sell her for really cheap (then just get another one).

While the idea that she could pocket the change from the $1,000. her dad gave her (if Joran's computer was the end-all he claimed) probably appealed to her (and was meant to), I can only imagine that Stephany had already picked up on Joran's unsupported bravado about his poker ability, thought he was probably full of baloney. That is, she probably was not convinced his laptop was all he claimed and told him that she was just going to get a new one. Perhaps he persuaded her by asking for a ride back to his hotel room, saying that she could just run up to his room for a second and give his laptop a quick look-see, so she reluctantly agreed. That's what I see in the video...she was tired, he'd talked her into going up to his room when she didn't really want to...and now he doesn't even have the key to his room, so she has to wait for him to get his key. This fits her seeming apathy (like, "whatever, let's get this over with").

This scenario also fits with the fact that she apparently parked her car in a temporary spot (i.e., in some way that it needed to be moved/relocated, so the hotel staff told JVS when he went to get coffee) because Stephany didn't think she'd be there very long.

And, it could be that JVS really wanted to sell it for cash (because he was low on cash), or that he just wanted take/borrow some cash...but when she said, no, that she didn't want it (or that she wanted a "nicer" one), he got really ticked off that he couldn't sucker her.

It all just seems a little too uncanny...She was freshly in the market for a laptop. Had cash on her slated to purchase a laptop immediately. They went to his hotel room for, JVS says, because of something to do with his laptop. She didn't expect to be there long...

Does this hold water as a theory in anyone else's mind?

money or sex - doesnt that drive much crime? Her auto in temporary parking is a tipoff (if true). I cant see sex. She's already affiliated in
that dept. So its money. .......... I like your post!

Another smoker here. I have one in the car (not the one the car comes with but a regular carry-around lighter), one in my purse, one for the upstairs and one for the downstairs. I also have books of matches all over the house - probably at least one on every table or countertop. I also have candles all over the house which is mostly what I use the matches for, but essentially they're everywhere in order to light a smoke. Ever notice they all seem to decide to run out of fluid at the same time? I notice this with lightbulbs too... every time one lightbulb burns out within days all the other ones in the house seem to decide to burn out.

I hate this smoking habit. It's expensive, generally gross, and quiting is soooooo hard. I'm thinking of trying those electronic cigarettes... I've heard even the hardest cases have very good luck with them.

Been there done that .... yuck! You willgo back. The only way is to slow down and quit. Sorry for the OT post but quitting is vital. GOOD LUCK!

Good point! I always find lighters that do not belong to me in my car if a friend who smokes has been in it.

I just keep looking for clues to what went on between Joran/Steph/others
the the days before the final day so Im a bit jumpy (is that a word?) about messages, meanings, and acts ... :innocent:

That has crossed my mind too, especially if the person is a
significant other and Steph is suddenly in some man's company going to
his room no less! That could lead to infinite conspiracy theory ... as we
all know too well.

There is no doubt, by today's service and service before, Steph was dearly loved
by all she knew ...

Ah. I had not heard that quote, but just from her body language I thought so too. Not that that's a bad thing at all. (I happen to prefer that type of woman) Sr. Flores has said he sheltered Stephany too much from "the bad", but I think she was plenty savvy. I highly doubt she would have gone to the room of a Peruvian she had only met a few times. I think the reason she is hanging her head in the hotel video is because she is ashamed to be seen entering that particular hotel with a man at that hour. Surely the last thing she expected from a clean cut, well spoken foreigner was violence. Anyway, back to the smoking. Does anyone know where the poker players have to go to smoke at that casino? I'm surprised there are no ashtrays on the tables. IME, social/occasional smokers don't usually carry lighters, so why doesn't SF have her cigarettes with her (assuming she smokes)? And, if she did have them somehow in a pocket of her clothing, why were they not found in Joran's room? I am interested in the DNA from the butts in the room too. Did she have time to have a smoke before he killed her?

Good question, and welcome to WSer's!

I haven't heard whether Stephany smoked or not. But I agree, it is odd for a non-smoker to have 2 lighters. Is it possible that JVDS took her cigarettes with him when he left? I believe there was 5 cig butts in the ashtray, and I gather LE has check all 5.

They looked to be at ease in the casino. She was comfortable enough to sit at a table with him after meeting him initially on the 27th. He wasn't a great poker player, she probably wasn't worried about him because she looked like an athletic type and was also a soccer player. I don't know what else could have happened that would have tipped her off. He must have been an exquisite actor to pull off losing and still smile that the vat that ate the canary in the hostel video where he gets his key.
Look at his right hand twitch before he gets the key. He was amped.

I just have to ask. You mentioned your grandmother's generation and
ivory buttons from longjohns, used to gamble as children?. I have a similar
background but it was clam shell pearl bottons off all old clothing. The
older folks horded them. We used to shine them up and collect them
as currency 5 for a penny! Was it the same with ivory buttons? I would
suppose ivory is worth a lot more than our old pearl buttons? We had tin cans full of them to sell at church bizarres etc ... but today many years later they are worth something from
collectors who prise all of the varieties!
