I'm kind of with you on this one sunset. Not only did he get away with murder, he continued to taunt and mock not only Natalee's family but the mainstream media for the past 5 years. He thought it was a big joke that any time he needed cash, he would call them up and spin another tale of what happened to her, only to recant what he said immediately afterwards. This went on for 5 long and grueling years.

If making him stand in front of the media and be humiliated is the worst he encountered, then I'd say he's a lucky man. He raised the ire of so many people over those 5 years that I'm surprised someone didn't take it upon themselves to take a bat (racquet) to his head before now, while he was jetsetting around the country gambling off of the money he made by torturing Natalee's family over and over again.

I admit when I first saw the "walk of shame" when JVDS was returned to Peru being presented to photographers I thought it seemed a bit unnecessarily over-the-top (not that I personally cared if it was humiliating for him). However, after thinking about it I think there was a good reason for it that had nothing to do with humiliation and was more for his protection. I think that their purpose in presenting him to the media in the orderly though possibly humiliating way was to avoid a lot of pushing and shoving by photographers and other media people getting too unruly where it would be much easier for someone to try to harm him. So, I'm thinking they believe, Ok, we'll give you all a chance to get good unobstructed photos by doing this "displaying" perp walk so that there will be no mob scene that could be dangerous for him (or anyone else for that matter). It also may have been a procedural necessity to show the public that not only did they have the correct person but show that he hadn't been harmed by police when he was handed over and while he was in their custody.

I also think the Netherlands' call to reign in the press is ridiculous. They should considering reigning in their own press before complaining about anyone else's and freedom of the press enjoyed in some countries like the US is a fundamental right with an important and valuable purpose though of course it can be problematic... rights and freedoms are going to come with problems. Example: if you have freedom of the press, you're going to have to live with things said in the press that you may not like or may seem unfair, but having that freedom of the press is more important than having to deal with that problem. Same with the freedom of speach... being able to say what you like is more important than having to deal with something being said that you don't like. The Netherlands goes too far in demanding Peru reign in their press as it insists on the trampling of another country's fundamental rights. And it's even more absurd of them to demand such a thing without reigning in their OWN press (some of the most ridiculous tabloid nonsense have come from their own press)... how ludicrous to demand such a thing of another country that you don't demand of your own.

I don't like tabloid press, but having the right of freedom of the press is far more important than being annoyed by tabloid press... I don't have to read it or believe what it says, but I'd never believe they didn't have the right to annoy me by what they print for public consumption - it's my responsibility whether or not to read it and whether or not to believe it.

In the video on this thread on post #2, if you enlarge the screen, you can see that although he does not use a key to lock the door, you can see that he has something black cupped in his palm.

Thanks for clearing that up! I'm sorry if I confused anyone by saying that he did use a key. I really thought he did but I just looked again and you can see clearly that he didn't. Sorry

However, he either is holding in the palm of his hand, her car keys or his room key. If there are keys on the bed stand, then may be her car keys in his palm since he drove and abandoned her car. Also, he told the employee not to disturb his girl which implies that she will be remaining in his room, and therefore may be coming and going (left the room key with her).

I have been reading all the posts, however it is not clear to me where her vehicle was found? Was it at the casino, or was it at the hotel, or did he drive it somewhere?

or was she just going to his room to get paid back money she lent him?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I really like these thoughts... SF wanting her money back that she had lent him makes sense for her to go to the room.. The vehicle was found several blocks away, which I never understood why he wouldn't have kept the vehicle for a day or two to get closer to the border...or a least a couple more hours... :waitasec:

THIS IS THE CAR THAT BELONGED TO STEPHANY FLORES. PERUVIAN POLICE SAY VAN DER SLOOT DROVE AWAY IN THIS CAR AND LEFT IT ABOUT 50 BLOCKS AWAY FROM THE HOTEL. THAT'S WHY THE FAMILY SAYS THEY ORIGINALLY THOUGHT THEY WERE DEALING WITH A KIDNAPPING.

I am beginning to wonder now if he somehow figured out she was very well known and in thinking that he might be more easily recognized in her vehicle....say if he were stopped, etc., would be tough to explain....but with him we all know he always has an explanation:furious:

My only thoughts on this is maybe he felt like he might be more easily caught in her vehicle since her family knows it's make, model, and plate number. Taking taxis would be a little more anonymous and harder to track, IMO. Not to mention the fact that it would look HIGHLY suspicious if he was caught in a dead girls car some 2000 miles away from where she was found.

............ Also, why is Stephanie going with Joran to his room at that hour since she is not going to become involved with him? Who in their right mind goes to a hotel room with a strange male especially at that hour - what was the point, to get more cash before going out to eat or something? What did he tell her to get her to his room? Notice in the video, they are not walking arm in arm; she is behind him. Even at the door to the room, they don't appear "cozy". She doesn't seem impaired; unlike the video of Natalie where she clearly was under the influence of something. They are going to the room for something other than physical involvement - what? Maybe he offered drugs? I'm not saying she used drugs, but why go there? What would make a young woman trust him? What did he tell her to make her trust him? ..........There is something that is just odd about all the circumstances. ..............

The book, "People of the Lie", discusses the difference between regular people and people that commit horrendous crimes. ...............these people don't think, act, or respond like normal people - they are people of the lie.

bolded by me...you answered your own question....i haven't read the book, but when dealing with "people of the lie" I'll bet a lot doesn't make sense in the light of day.

but at the time, when faced with THEM, it is a mismatch. normal people are toys in THEIR hands. normal people have no clue, while the perp is totally in his element.

wasn't it 5 in the morning...after a night of gambling..possibly drinking..maybe a drug or even two, exhaustion...physical and mental limits approached or breeched...and all the time THEY are planning, scheming, observing and waiting for THE opening.

the only good thing about this is its location. Karma. peru-style.

Respectfully snipped by me

This was my first thought! Also the reason for the video physical when he was brought into Peru?

There are a few broken quotes making it confusing who posted what. If you snip a post to make it shorter, make sure you have the ending quote. It should have this on the end " [/QUOTE] " of the post you are quoting.

Criminal psychologist Alan Lipman on Fox News just interviewed.

I'm going to paraphrase, but here is the gist of what he said:

Who does this kind of act? The serial killers we've seen in the past Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer are cold, obsessive and hungry for the kill. Joran is more of a psychopath. Believe me this does not make him better -- it's worse. He's hungry for whatever he can get. We know he stole from this girl. He tried to shake down Beth H. for info on Natalee's manner of death and location body. This is someone who is a liar, impulsive and a thief. Rather than being hungry for murder he's hungry for what he can get - whether it's rape or theft.

Was struck that it was 5 years to the day after Natalee murder. Not sure if there are other victims. We know J's father was the sole restraining influence, if there is such a thing. With the father gone restaints were off. Now we have a psychopath on the lose looking for women, money and sex -- for that impulse that the psychopath at his heart is looking for. He's looking for stimulation even if it comes in publicity or another murderess acts. Regarding the extreme violence of crime - Lipman said it was classic psychopathic behavior. Joran is as cold as ice, no remorse -- a classic psychopath.

I can't imagine one would surrender their actual Passport to a hotel. They probably make a copy of it and keep it to identify who's staying in the hotel and then hand the original back to the guest. I would never give my Passport to anybody to keep - I'd always keep it with me while in a foreign country.

Depending on what country you may have no choice. You either give them the passport or no room. Honestly, it's quite common in some countries.

Thanks Patty! Coincedence that the family thought it was a kidnapping, and so did what's his name from the casino. Sorry I don't remember his name. I suppose that is because it might be a common occurance with important people and their families.

So it would be safe to say that he did in fact have her car keys and the keys on the nighttable were the room keys which he didn't need to lock the door when he left.

I watched the vid again, concentrating on her hands, you can see her left hand is not holding anything, and as she takes a stride or two you can see your right hand is not holding anything either.

He probably drove her car to the casino, and was still holding the car keys when they got to the desk?

BBM

In the video where he is picking up his room key you can see he has something in his right hand and takes the room key with his left. I thought all along that he had her car keys in his right hand but now am not sure. What do you think? The footage I'm talking about can be viewed in post #2 of this thread.

Looks like a white lighter and a cigarette that he keeps flipping in his hand.

Ummm.. "he looked like Brad Pitt" Really? April fools' was two months ago, folks.

This statement that Joran looked like Brad Pitt gave me my first good laugh of the day. Personally, I always thought he resembled Frankenstein. All that's missing is the neck bolts.
