Until the 10 get paid $105 to deal you some pain.

I had the same thought -- but the leaders would no doubt take the money and do what they want. On Monday, Shamans cursed Joran van der Sloot. IMHO this will not bode well for him in prison.

So all the money in the world (IMO) would not save this guy.

MOO

If Anita Van der Sloot cannot see, at this point, that her son is a dangerous person who should not continue to be free to kill, than I have no respect whatsoever. I do not subscribe to the 'not my child' theory of parenthood. It sickens me to see her continually tout his innocence. There comes a point where you have to face the truth and deal with it. She needs to stop trying to bail him out and encourage him to face the consequences for his actions.

It's called denial without having to mention any other case here.

Tell me, please tell me, this guy is not going to get some BS sentence due to good lawyering by the hired guns. My gut says his goose is cooked, if for no other reason than the stature of her father. But, this is one slick fella and I'm still worried they're going to give him some kind of deal.

Steph Watts makes an interesting comment in a post he made earlier today.

JORAN: “I’m being interrogated in a very rude way”

Basically, he is addressing recent talking point regarding the FBI sting.

He questions the source of the money that Beth Holloway paid. He says, and I quote: "People are speculating as to where it came from. And I think it’s important for people who are commenting on this case in the media to fully disclose their involvement, financial or otherwise."

My interpretation of that comment, and my opinion only is that the so-called blood money came from FoxNews. Hence, the reason Greta is so upset that the FBI didn't arrest Joran in Aruba (which they couldn't have done anyhow). She wanted Fox's money back!!! Just my opinion, folks. It also explains why she has been able to 'report' on the details for the last few days, beating everyone else to the story, to the details. Well, most of the details.

Well Joran, you allegedly killed 2 young woman in a very rude way! Why should be get special treatment now?

I think we are WAY past denial at this point. I'm starting to wonder if there is some pathology at work there as well.

He said his credit cards were in Santiago, Chile hotel room. Correct? If you google map it, Aruba is located at the far Northern point of the map South America. Santiago, Chile is way below Lima, Peru and terribly far south from Aruba. It just didn't appear to me as if he was planning on going back to Aruba at all. Rather it seemed quite the opposite, that he was RUNNING SOUTH which speaks strongly to his guilt, IMHO. He knew that they would be looking for him for the murder and that they would expect him to go toward Aruba. So he went the opposite direction... For what reason would he have gone the opposite direction other than to escape law enforcement looking for him and why would LE be looking for him if he had no connections with and knew nothing of the murder????

Reminds me an awful lot of Scott Peterson and his red haired trip to Mexico that was really just a trip in the same 'direction' to play golf!

Exactly, JVDS was running from the FBI. The reported sting operation took place in May. JVDS left Aruba and headed for SA, after the sting operation was set up. JVDS must have gotten word that the FBI was setting him up to extradite to the US, where he would have been convicted for possibly 20 years. I think with the 5 yr annv. of NH and being that on the day of Stephany's murder, JVDS was out of money and SF probably did Google his name...he snapped. He was on the run, from the US and then from Peru obviously. He was trapped!

I do find it a bit surprising that the FBI turned over so much money to Joran without having a tighter control of the situation.

Regarding his mom, I am hoping she is in good health, because all the disappointment, sadness, dispair, embarresment, from her son's imprisonment of murdering a young woman...over his uncontrolled anger.....will surely...affect her health and well being....over time....It would affect any parent's...She will have a lot to deal with in the coming years...
Her husband's death....her son's involvement in the NH case...and ...now...THIS
AND, there are still two other younger brothers of Joran to raise. I hope the biggest lesson they learn from their brother's life is that actions have consequences.

Were the Police able to locate the hotel room in Chile? Days ago I remember reading that they were frustrated that Joran couldn't find the hotel he had checked into in Chile.
I never heard anything more about that. Was there a hotel or was that just more bs?

adding - plus JVS was on his way to a coastal city (name escapes me). Why would he keep his room in Santiago?

I'm not sure we could believe a word which comes out of his mouth even if he were administered sodium pentathol! I haven't heard any update on whether or not police actually located the hotel room in Chile. And excellent question on why he would be keeping the hotel room if he were indeed going to a coastal city... I thought the same thing when I heard about the credit cards being left in the room... It made no sense to me as to why he would ever leave them in a hotel room...

So do you read that as he did have it with him or was it left at the desk?

Joran had his passport with him when he was picked up by police and his belongings were searched as evidenced at the 5:01 mark on the video I posted on the last page.

Right, but there is an incredible amount of Bureaucratic issues that had to take place, and I think JVDS knows the Aruba island like the back of his hand. He probably just slipped away at night under their radar.

Some one here may know the answer to these questions:

1) Is it extortion and/or wire fraud only because the info he gave was not true?

2) Had the info he gave been accurate would it had been legal?

3) What is the difference between contacting Beth Holloway and asking for money for info and contacting the USAToday and doing the same?

4) Would most countries extradite some one to the US on an extortion and/or wire fraud charge?

5) How does the law work if the person doing the extortion and/or wire fraud does it from a counrty where it's not illegal? I mean if you are in Country A and do something involving Country B (with out ever being in Country B) how can Country B arrest you?

1- No, extortion no matter what.
2- No, still illegal to extort.
3- It is extorting Beth, but the USA would be paying for info.
4- Most would, depending on their treaty situation with the US.
5- He would have to have entered US soil or been extradited to be arrested.

Hope helped some. This was a plan imo to make sure Joran served some time in prison no matter if they could not get him for the Aruba case. They had no idea he would murder the girl in Peru.

AND, there are still two other younger brothers of Joran to raise. I hope the biggest lesson they learn from their brother's life is that actions have consequences.

Me too. They're certainly not going to learn it from their mother. IMO

Hopefully NO ONE will believe anything he says about mistreatment by police or coerced confessions because he's done nothing but lie since came into the public eye!

It would seem his mother will always believe everything he says.

Thanks Krowdkat, We had wondered why he didn't fly out of Peru, but since he did have his passport with him it had to be he couldn't get the flight he wanted right away like I read here a bit ago. OK, and thank goodness for small wonders, eh? xox

WTH????

Here we go with the changing stories...but this seems completely outlandish, even for him. Maybe these reporters are bored waiting for new details??

The article states that's what he told Chilean police when he was initially picked up in Santiago. I can see him spewing a wild tale like that when he didn't have a clue what video evidence the Pervian police had on him. LOL

I have never read a report that the hotel held his passport. I do remember someone here offered that as a theory, and everyone has jumped on it ever since. (I was just in Nicaragua, and we had to show our passport every time we converted money, so that wouldn't have worked.)

Also, weren't the initial reports that he DID go toward the airport, only to find he would have to wait two days to use his ticket?

Probably just a copy at the hotel. Don't believe he went to the airport. I think he was planning on laying low in Chile, but that didn't pan out. He obviously did something to his hair to change his appearance.

I really think there's a great possibility here that we are ALL "over-thinking" what went on here. It's a normal reaction for (normal) people to try and understand why crimes like this occur and find some sort of rational explanation (even if its only rational in the perp's head), but the problem with this is the fact that people who commit crimes such as the ones we are discussing are not "normal" and don't think/react like we think they would or should in certain situations. On the flip side, I may be "under-thinking" it, but my money right now is on him killing her in cold blood so he could rob her. The fact that he got to also beat & kill a woman was just a sick "bonus" for him. Bottom line - he needed money and she had money, but wasn't going to give this random dude a christmas present just b/c he's JVS, so he just killed her instead. I know that sounds oversimplistic, but people like this don't have a conscience at all or if they have a small one its certainly not similar to the conscience we all have. She was just some stupid b*** (thinking like him now) who had something he wanted and he took it from her by whatever means necessary. Even though she may have given him money w/o him having to kill her, but like I said before, that was just a sick "bonus" for him.

The new info about cocaine/amphetamines being in his system only bolsters my theory that he may or may not have taken out his anger/rage on her b/c of something she "did" (in his mind of course). I know a lot of people consider an illegal drug is a drug is a drug, but its not that simple when you are discussing the effects these drugs have on an individual. I was the 1st person to say that pot didn't cause him to kill her and pot doesn't cause people to commit violent murders. I'm sure there are a handful of cases where an argument can be made that pot alone led to some sort of mental "snap" in someone with a pre-existing mental condition, but that's NOT what we are talking about here. Pot obviously has effects, but these are typically nothing even close to anything that would cause someone to become angry enough to violently beat someone else to death. It may increase anxiety, but the "downer" effects of the pot will pretty much offset this effect, at least for the purposes we are talking about here. Cocaine on the other hand is a horse of a different color entirely in numerous respects, especially in respect to the immediate effects it has on a user. In all users, not just chronic users or those w/pre-existing mental conditions, cocaine can/will cause extreme agitation, irritability, impatience, anxiety and anger. Unlike pot, these effects of cocaine are accompanied by increased energy, which can become an obvious recipie for disaster when you are talking about someone like JVS. As far as the amphetamines go, they would have caused very similar effects to those of cocaine, so that's sort of 6 of 1, half dozen of the other to me.

Even though I truly believe he killed Natalee, I'm not ready to jump on board with the idea that just b/c he had info on his laptop about her then "case solved." We are dealing with someone who is so narcissistic and accustomed to getting attention for whatever reason, that I don't think its a stretch to believe he used whatever he had on his computer or in his head to brag to various people around the world who he encountered on his many "travels," especially guys who he felt "understood" why someone would kill a girl or would possibly be impressed by the fact he was a murderer. As everyone has pointed out, JVS is a liar, is a liar, is a liar and that personality trait most likely permeated his life in all aspects. Bottom line - JVS is the type of person who would/will do whatever is necessary to accomplish whatever it is that he WANTS to accomplish, no matter the toll that action takes on others, even as extreme as causing the death of another.

Wanted to say thank you without the "click". Very good summarization and I totally agree with all you have stated. Included the effects or not (pot) of the drugs. It only added to his already sick mind frame and intentions. I agree, this is just as simple as JVS once again getting what he wanted from his victim. Money. Without it he couldn't continue his lifestyle of gambling, sex, and partying. Period. He really thought Natalee's death would be there for the continuous cycling of money and attention. He was the epitome of "opportunist".
