Alcala was in So. Cal during 78, but I wonder if he went to No. Cal, maybe had friends or family there? Does anyone know where his mother lived, it said she bailed him out at one point?

He lived with his mother in Monterey Park, in the Los Angeles area, and she bailed him out on at least one occasion. He was arrested in January, 1979 for the kidnapping and rape of a 15-year old girl in Riverside, and a stupid judge set his bail at $10,000, which his mother paid. Five months later he killed Jill Paranteau in Burbank and then Robin Samsoe. He was arrested at his mother's house on July 24, 1979 and charged with Samsoe's murder.

I thought I heard something this morning on HLN that 2 of the women had been identified. I think it was Robin Meade's show.

Did anyone else hear that or can they point in the direction of more info? TIA.

CarlK- that was an absolutely incredible facial mapping thing you did. Thank you.

It's also cutting the timeline very close. Alcala was arrested on July 24, 1979 in Los Angeles and he's been incarcerated since then. He would have had to take those photos and presumably kill her on July 20th in Oregon, dispose of the body, then drive to Seattle to place the pictures in the locker, then back to L.A. in less then four days.

On a related note, I'm unclear on the exact date the photos were seized from the storage locker in Seattle. I think it was at the time of his arrest in July, but I don't recall seeing an exact date. I'd like to know when he was last in Seattle.

I wondered about the locker too-somewhere I read about a family member trying to keep the receipt from the police. Who knows maybe a family member put the locker in Seattle or the pictures in the locker???

The calendar in this photo is a very interesting calendar, I've never seen one like this before, and am trying to find one like it vintage calendars on the web. It is I believe circled to Wednesday the 14th. I can't tell what month it is, but if the green ribbon is for March (st. pattys day) then it would either be 1973 or 1979. This is just a guess, the month I guess could be any other color. Interestingly the girl is dressed in all green too. Anyone remember ever having or seeing a calendar like that?

It has to be 1979, as Alcala was still incarcerated in March of 1973, serving time for the rape and beating of the 8-yr old girl in 1968. He was released on August 3, 1974. He was definitely free in March of '79.

Good find!

I didn't see this posted here, so if this is a duplicate sorry, but here's the Wiki link to Alcala's timeline:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodney_Alcala

and in looking for UID's I guess this info from there would be pertinent:

He raped one of his victims with a claw hammer, and all of them were repeatedly strangled and resuscitated during their deaths to prolong their agony.

Just to add to this - here is the link to his crime 'biography' from the TruTv Crime Library. It goes into a little more detail. Just awful.

I think I've got the locker timeline nailed down now...

excerpt:
Twelve days after she vanished, on July 2, 1979, Samsoe's skeletal remains were found by U.S. Forestry Service rangers. Alcala was arrested on July 24 at his mother's house in Monterey Park.

Alcala claimed that at the time of Samsoe's disappearance he had been at Knott's Berry Farm applying for a job as a photographer for a disco contest.

But his story fell apart. Cops had already found, in a search of Alcala's house, a receipt for a locker in Seattle. Quickly traveling there, police found photos in which Alcala appears to have been stalking young girls and snapping photos of them. Also found was a picture of Lorraine Werts, a girl who posed for him in the Huntington Beach neighborhood where Samsoe and Bridget were approached. Police also found gold ball earrings allegedly worn by Samsoe, and tiny rose earrings verified much later through DNA as belonging to victim Lamb.

And yes, a family member did try to hide the receipt for the storage locker from police. It's not clear whether it was his mother, or another relative.

There were a lot of girls who went missing in the southwest during the early 70's and many of them were considered to be victims of Ted Bundy. It could be a possibility some of these girls were victims of Alcala instead.

Robin Graham and Donna Lass (first two links) both disappeared and it was speculated they were Zodiac victims but there really has not been much info to support that theory other than the time frame.

The last link is for Nancy Wilcox but it includes all the names and the links to other girls missing and thought to be linked to Bundy.

RE: The swing pic. I saved it so I could blow it up without as much distortion. The newspaper says "VOICE" at the top, perhaps "The Village Voice"? Next to the newspaper is the phone book - opened to yellow pages (I think). Could he have been using girls from modeling agencies and escort services as his models? It doesn't appear they ordered pizza or take out because she is eating from a bowl. Admittedly take-out can be put in a bowl though. Again, just my observations.

There is also a pattern (in rows, every other 12-16 inches, I think) on the floor itself as if it is brushed or stamped into the concrete. I would think LE has identified where this apartment is. (LOL, wish they would tell us.)

Looking closer at the newspaper it may have a "U" in a lighter color and then "VOICE". I can not tell if there are lighter letters after that. University Voice? U Voice...

ETA: That flooring may be cheap laminate mock wood flooring too though. When I look at it on the left of the pic it looks like laminate, when I look at the floor on the right side of the rug it looks different.

It also looks as if shes eating with a metal spoon or fork.. I dont know about then, but typically if I order something take out its typically either in a single serving container that I would eat directly out of or its in a large (family) size container that you would then put into bowls - most often either way they would send plastic forks/spoons that you would eat with. Who knows though.

The fact that she was from Utah, and last seen in a VW Bug at the very time Bundy was in Utah pretty much locks Nancy Wilcox as a Bundy victim

He did make that trip to Seattle in very short order after July 11. From Serial Killer Central:

"Alcala’s girlfriend, Elizabeth Kelleher, testified that she saw Alcala on June 22, at which time he was sporting his usual long, curly hair. The next day, however, the composite sketch was exhibited throughout the area.

On June 23, Alcala “straightened” his hair using a chemical solution and then cut his hair short on June 26. On July 8, he informed Kelleher that he was going to move from southern California to Texas to start a photography business.

However, he actually went to Seattle—not Texas—on July 11. It was at this time he obtained the storage locker. He returned to Monterey Park, informing Kelleher that he planned to leave for Texas permanently on July 24. On the other hand, he told another friend, Leslie Schneider, that he was leaving for Chicago."

Depending on when exactly he came back, he might well have been in Oregon on the 20th.

I really wish the police would say who has been identified and who they still need help with. I don't mind spending my free time helping but I wonder if I'm looking for someone who has already been identified when someone else needs a name.

Could it be this paper? Maybe when he lived in NY?

http://www.villagevoice.com/news

Maybe what I thought may have been a lighter "U" before "VOICE" is actually where it says "The Village" printed lengthwise and the VOICE printed across after that?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Village_Voice

I think it is very possible he was making contact with potential victims through the newspaper classifieds and/or the phone book. JMO

I think you are 100% right -

http://athleticsnyc.com/assets/files/wes_cover_of_village_voice_large.jpg

If you look at them side by side it without a doubt looks the same - also if you open paint shop (or whatever you use to edit photos) and move the mouse over the newspaper it shows you that the color of the logo is blue, which matches the cover of the village voice.

Looking through the google archive of the village voice the first time they used that logo was Jan 2, 1969.

Im looking through the covers of each of the village voice (that they have in the archive) but no luck finding the cover on the floor yet. It doesnt seem like it would be a hopeless thing to find the cover - most of the village voice covers seem to to be covered with photos on the cover - there are only two graphics on the cover of the one on his floor are the logo and some sort of photo directly below the logo nearly the same length.

Here are the covers.

Great work on the Kawaskai. :) I pretty sure it is not a Pinto, with the exception of the Pinto Wagon, Pinto's for the most part had horizontal tail lights. My first thought was that the car was a Datsun, but I can't find one with tail lights resembling that picture. Trying to ID that car is going to drive me nuts, LOL.

I didn't even notice the toe, great eye.

I agree with the above posters, I wish they would at least let us know which pictures have been ruled out as victims.

1976 Datsun F10?

I agree, it seems that they would want us to put focus on the ones that arent actually solved. Maybe they dont want to release that info until they have notified everyone that needs to be?

From the most recent thing Ive read it seems the family members of the person said its them. I wish they would let us know but im sure they will soon.

I'm trying to I.D. that yellow hatchback in front of the bike, but I think it's a Ford Pinto. Wonder why the bike is tied to the rear bumper with the blue & white nylon cord like it's being towed? Also, the girl in the photo has something going on with her smallest left toe. Is this what you'd call a hammertoe? It's not in line with the others at all.

1976 Datsun F10?

The TruTV article indicates that Alcala drove a Datsun F-10 in 1979.
