Question about the "Tapas 9"

They must have been pretty bad doctors. They totally failed basic pediatrics 101. You don't leave babies unattended...especially barfing ones. I see them more like Major Frank Burns from the 4077 MASH.

I think being a premeditated child killer - especialy your own child - would rather count against you as being a useful pediatrician !!

It does rather overshadow leaving the kids alone somewhat

yeah - we regualrly let people become heart surgeons purely on who they know - in fact we dont give a toss if they have any medical experience atall .

I was actually talking about the Tapas GROUP, not the McCanns specifically. They all left their kids alone, so they all make poor medical judgements. Even the couple who supposedly had a baby monitor. If they heard their baby choking, even if they where Olympic runners, do you think they could make it back to their apartment before the child choked to death?

Obviously they all waived the right to take the The Hippocratic Oath

The question was---
Would you leave your children home alone- at night-with the doors locked for a quick run to a neighborhood 7/11 for a gallon of milk?
There were 10 of us who answered the question---
8 absolutely no ways
1 I have to think about it
1 yes

I can't imagine leaving my children home alone for 5 minutes, much less for days on end. In that manner, I think the McCann's were ridiculously naive and stoopid.

I think the different answers to this question were probably based on the ages of the children, right?

I mean I would see it as absolutely no way for any child under 10 years old.

For any child between the ages of 10-13, it would totally depend on what time of night, how far the 7/11 was (where I live, even to the closest store would take 20 minutes round trip, not counting the time I spent in the store), if I knew my neighbors and if they were home, and the individual child's maturity level. I know some 10 year olds I would not leave unsupervised for 5 minutes, and then there are others that are generally okay on there own for 15 or so minutes.

Under NO, and that means NO (dare I say it again) NO circumstances should a child under the age of 5 be left unattended at ANY time of the DAY or NIGHT. I know folks are tired of the harping on this, but the reality is, if the McCanns did not harm Maddie themselves, then she was harmed because she was left on her own. Whether she woke up and walked out or someone snatched her. It is no different than if the apartment had caught on fire. The end result is the same. And to leave 2 year olds - I just can't understand this. A 2 year old can put themselves is a dangerous situation faster than you can go to the kitchen to get them a drink of water. And what makes it all worse is that the parents in this case were probably aware of the dangers of leaving young children unattended. They must have dealt with injured children when they were receiving their medical training.

I agree with interestedwomen - they flunked Pediatrics 101, big time.

What it bothers me the most are the parent's justification and lies of the whole thing, stating the distance between the restaurant and the apartment was like to "dine at your backyard/garden". We all saw the pictures and we all can see nothing is further from the truth!

Madeline, knowing that she was totally alone at night may have awoke the babies thinking that the parents would check and then come home. If Madeline wasn't abducted by a pedophile, I believe that she was beaten and something like this would be a good reason for some out of control parent to go berserk.

If they all woke up, the place caught on fire, or an abductor broke in, Madeline is the only one who could have made sure the twins got out or didn't leave the apt., fall in the toilet, swallow something, etc. The were totally alone with no monitors and Madeline was almost 2 years older. I think those two are idiots even if they are doctors, and I have been to quite a few doctors that seemed to be total idiots. Madeline could have woke the twins literally thinking (like a child does) that the parents would come and check on them, find them crying, and come home for the night.

I wonder if they will find Madeline around that old barn. We have many old dilapidated barns around here, and to be honest, thinking about it, would be a perfect place to bury a body. They have soft dirt floors, and could easily be made to look untouched, especially if there is any old hay or straw laying around. I wonder if the towel they found is consistent with the variety used at the resort. I also wonder if this barn is anywhere near where they found the bag with the clothes and shower curtian. (Has that ever been ruled out as being linked to Maddie?)

So right, and I know the Pro-McCann people are tired of hearing it...BUT, it's the smoking gun of this case.

I think about the odds of a child being kidnapped, vs. the odds of them injuring themselves via jumping on the bed and cracking their head open, turning on the stove and burning themselves, running with knives or sissors...The dangers of little children being left alone are endless. The McCanns are basically claiming ignorance. Ignorance is their alibi. They expect the world to think their ignorance is typical and understandable.

Well, I *might* understand it if they where teenage meth heads.
