If the remains were mummified, there should be a better chance of more evidence than just dry bones... hoping they can nail whoever did this! MOO

Flashbacks to our sweet Caylee. :(

These murderers are so lazy.

Glad they are LAZY and hoping they leave a story of evidence.
I think SA might confess if cornered.........(coward type punk)
BD.........never but she will turn on lover to save herself.
IMO, I have always thought they both knew the 'secret'
from the start.
Murder can velcro people together tight to the hip. :moo:

How long does it take for a body to get mummified?

In the West Texas sun, alkaline soil conditions, and lack of humidity? Not long, based on dead cats and 'possums on my grandparents' land. A cat could be missing one week and found, mummified, two weeks later, especially in July or August. A 13year old is bigger than a cat, of course, but it wouldn't take long.

reminder: if a link comes up as ******* that means you cannot link to it... it also means you cannot direct others to that link in a roundabout way and paraphrase what is said there

Body is mummified.................

Ok, questions -

How does this happen? What kind of conditions have to be in place?

I think its kinda obvious now that she wasn't just laying out on the ground - so........how does mummification happen to a body?

How long does it take for a body to get mummified?

About a year apparently, if the conditions are right. It was super dry the winter she went missing with wildfire conditions everywhere, and didn't rain until sometime last year.

ETA: Bodies don't mummify in nature without super hot and dry conditions.

It is now even possible to hydrate/lubricate samples to test for drugs (among other things).

"KCBD NewsChannel 11 has learned from multiple sources that officials were 90 percent sure that the body was that of Hailey Dunn, 13, who turned up missing from Colorado City in late December of 2010."

"An official announcement is expected Wednesday afternoon."

"The body was found about a block away from the home of Shawn Adkins who had been referred to as a suspect in Hailey's disappearance."

Sorry, but how stupid was/is he? I am just glad she's finally found. God Bless Her.

KCBD has been at the scene since 5:00AM this morning. I was watching it as I was getting ready for work.

I am so proud of our local media here...they usually do a FANTASTIC job!

So far, KCBD is leading with the most new info as far as details about condition of the body. What they are reporting about the clothing match is good info IMO.

About the Limestone company that used to oen the property...isn't lime a preservative? If the body was in a shallow grave and was washed up by the recent storms and high winds, I think that the lime must have helped to preserve things even after the trash bag began to fall apart.

(Heh heh, take that, you evil murderer. You dumped that poor girl in just the right place to nail your butt!)

I recall Shawn staring down the searchers from the porch at his Grandma's-- didn't they think it was because of the memorial at a bridge, or something? Is it possible his stupid intimidation worked enough to have missed this nearby tract of very searchable land? I mean, certainly the business would have granted a search, if asked, right?

Cocky sonofa... grrrrr

Now, to me the big question, who might they have in custody??? If they had HD's dentals, they should know if it is her by now. Poor little one.

I agree - I think this is good news because there will be tissue. They might even be able to tell if she was drugged. Certainly they will look for other DNA if she was inside a trash bag.

quick and sick thought........SA hunted, did he know any taxidermy?
I know this is sick, but did he try to make her a mummy?
My brain is going wild, could be natural, but SA is wierd,

His grandmother didn't live in Big Spring. His MOTHER lives/lived in Big Spring where a body has been found.

The natural mummification process usually happens in extremely dry environments that allow the fast dehydration of tissues, simultaneously slowing down or inhibiting the decomposition by bacteria and other microorganisms.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mummification also happens to the bodies of people who die on the desert surface, where direct exposure to sunlight and the highly dry atmosphere favor rapid dehydration.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Natural mummification is also favored by some other factors, such as age (it is more common in newborns), gender (occurs more often in female corpses), and cause of death (large hemorrhages, ante-mortem prolonged administration of antibiotics, and poisoning by arsenic and potassium cyanide). The external aspect of both natural and man-made mummies includes drastic body-weight reduction, dried leather-like shrunken and darkened skin, reduced volume of the head, and well-conserved teeth and nails. Facial features are in a measure preserved, but tendons and muscles are very fragile and disintegrate at touch

depends on the conditions in the area

The conditions in this area are that of a current drought, to the point people are rationing water and municipalities are on water restrictions. The first rain we have had in months was 2 days ago. The land where the remains were discovered was an old limestone (rock) quarry and is described as rock and cement and dirt. Very very dry, no moisture at all.
