Praying that this debris is the plane. For the sake of the families and the agony they must be in.

Official: Photos of debris that could be from missing AirAsia jet are being examined. Helicopters will be sent when weather permits.

from your link:

''Ships, planes and helicopters have been searching for Flight QZ8501 since it went missing over the Java Sea on Sunday on its way from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore.''

They were doing S&R --I just find it so odd that it was found so close to last radar blip....10 KM (a minute of flight time) from what was posted upthread....

Per CNN, Indonesia officials confirm it was 4 hours ago this debris was found, about 9:40 in the morning (their time.) Then, they found more at other debris sites. This is on live TV. Sorry, no links.

Slightly off topic, but I work at the destination airport, and my job is to answer the "crash" phone and dispatch emergency personnel. The airplane landed safely after turning around to return to the departure airport.

I think because of the Air Asia situation, and the emergency landing at Gatwick today, the media is going a little crazy. We were visited tonight by Fox News and NBC, as well as local news channels, even though the aircraft didn't land here.

It is an adrenaline rush though when that red phone rings.

I also agree that ice will turn out to be a factor. The first time I ever flew, it was in a Twin Otter commuter from Vermont to NYC. Because I worked for the airline, the pilots gave me head phones to listen in. I could not talk though. It started to snow, so I hear the captain say, oh look, the wings are getting ice, and explained to me how it changes the airflow and then added "so, kind of like Air Florida". Of course, he didn't know I had never flown before, so internally, I was a mess.

The dark picture looks like a body face down, in some of the pics I have seen online. :( I will be so ticked if it is. That would be horrifying. MOO

I kinda thought it looked like a body in the fetal position.
However, I figured it's probably much bigger than that.
At least I hope it is...

It has been confirmed by Indonesian officials that the debris IS from the missing plane -sky news.

My heart goes out to the families now more than ever, as they watch this play out in the media along with us.

This is horrifying beyond words. Truly.

My heart breaks for them too. Thankfully, it will give them some closure, unlike the poor families from 370.

I'm right there with you, hoping they don't have a great lens and these are close up, because the other pic could be a body with a life vest. There is NO way. These have to be huge items in the water, at least that is my hope, as well.

The families of the MH370 passengers must have such mixed feelings right now seeing the debris from this crash being located in only 3 days.
