Some update from 1 hr ago

"The local community has also paid for a bushcraft teacher, involved in the 2014 William Tyrrell search, to help.

Hundreds of people are expected to join what has been dubbed a 'mega' ground search on Saturday."

Ms Murphy's mysterious disappearance during an early morning run on February 4 has generated hundreds of leads, with officers now honing in on known violent offenders living close to her home in Ballarat in regional Victoria”

I still believe it is possible she was lured onto a neighboring property or a property near her running route.

Edited :forgot to add …. I haven’t been able to get confirmation that Saturday has been given the ok by vicpol . Has anyone seen if it has?
I don’t want to be part of trampling on potential evidence or hampering any investigations.
I did send the organiser an email but haven’t heard.

I noticed in the article that Dotta just posted it says this .... Police have asked members of the community who are continuing to search to contact them immediately if any items are located.

Presumably that means that the police are aware of the private searches that are continuing and have not asked searchers to stop searching.

I would gladly join the search...

BUT
Ooops!
I live on another continent :(

Police say they have added the detectives "from a number of units across Crime Command and Counter Terrorism Command".

"Those highly skilled detectives have been selected for their experience in complex and protracted investigations," a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

"They have not been selected due to the crime theme they currently work.
"We have not taken Counter Terrorism detectives because we think her disappearance is terrorism related."

All those units make me feel it’s business related

Oops sorry @TootsieFootsie, I see you just posted the same thing

I guess police don't want potential crime scene to be contaminated. And they couldn't really tell the group not to search when they are telling us nothing. IMO

Nothing surprises me anymore, and the connection between these two events may hold some weight.
Hopeful now that there is no connection. From the article in The Herald Sun today:

"A man and woman died in a murder-suicide last Friday night.
Police have ruled out any connection between that tragedy and the Murphy case."

I also recall the first presser where the officer said they "are not going to say you can't go into the bush, we are not going to tell you what you can and can't do" ... or words to that effect.

imo

I guess the locals are on edge.
Not knowing if a mad perp is lurking in the vicinity.

I can understand their willingness to act.
I respect and admire them.
Local solidarity must always be praised :)

If LE believed there was danger in that bushland they’d be cordoning off the area and giving strict instructions and warnings NOT to venture in.

One missing woman .... 2.6 million tourists visiting Ballarat each year.

I think this could be a reason why nobody is being restricted in their movements around Ballarat.

With so many people still on the lookout for Samantha, there is probably little danger of another attack (if this was an attack) happening at the moment.

Tourism spending in Ballarat reaches record high

imo

Sorry,
I didn't follow this murder/suicide at all.

How can these 2 be connected?
Simply speculation on my behalf (which is not always healthy)
The murder/suicide involved a member of an outlaw MCC who has a fierce reputation for extortion and standover tactics.... a google search will support this. Did someone know what happened to SM and threatened to tell?
Yes, just a theory but perhaps worth consideration.
