It looks like a sensor, I have attached something similar

You've certainly found something that looks similar. It's designed to stop gates opening and closing if something is in the way. Which doesn't seem to apply here as it's pointed towards the road and not the opposing gate structure. I've also been trying to find one that's not black without any luck. I do feel though it could be a CAME brand device. Thanks.

A new article from the Herald Sun

Paraphrased:

More than a dozen detectives from specialist Melbourne-based units have been called in to assist with Samantha’s case

Extra detectives have been sent to chase leads contained in the hundreds of information reports which have been generated.

The extra detectives have come from fraud, counter-terror, sex crimes and armed robbery investigation units.

Those officers have been called in because they are experienced and have a background of working on protracted investigations.

Snip…

Still nothing specific about the “ping” … Her mobile phone “pinged” off a tower at Buninyong, later on February 4 but has been inactive since.

Paywalled for some:

Something that jumped out to me is that the police believe that Samantha made it into the forest where she usually runs (presumably Canadian Forest).

And violent offenders in the area have been under police scrutiny.

Yes. I had friends living is Wilson Street yrs ago across the road from the bush that we walked in.. They also had an acreage. So if 6.1 acres blocks are now common in Eureka Street, what are these properties used for? To live in, but generally what do they do with the rest of the property? What did the Murphies use their property for? Storage, horses, nothing in particular???

New article…. SM’s Dad claims that Police have silenced him.

I would probably use the same excuse if the media were hounding me to comment. The media would no doubt be adding to their trauma, so easier to say
"sorry not allowed to discuss it" The Daily Mail is notorious for twisting the truth fot a good headline... it sells papers.

Yes, and Nicola Bulley who was missing for 3 weeks in Lancashire, UK and later found deceased in the river 1.5 kilometres from where she was last seen. There had been an extensive search of the river and surrounding land involving police divers, helicopters, drones, and sniffer dogs all failing to find her. Her body was discovered by a couple out walking their dog 3 weeks later.

I agree this is a pretty good scenario and everyone needs to search again all the areas that have previously searched. It’s really easy to miss something be it a body or piece of evidence that may have fallen and the impact caused, whatever it is, to be covered with leaf matter etc again. That’s why they need experience hikers hiking off to each side of the tracks

SM didn’t go on the family Xmas holiday. Bc of Covid….perhaps, or cover for an extra marital affair?? But with whom? And if she said it couldn’t go on, could this be the culprit?
Sam..come on, I just wanna talk..

Orrr. The inverse..she’s fallen in love with someone else who doesn’t share her affection or want it ongoing and something’s gone wrong. Maybe lives close by and these ‘runs’ have been an excuse to get out for a 20km run when ur training for same?

The extra deceives have come from fraud, counter-terror, sex crimes and armed robbery investigation units" makes me wonder if there is some connection to the recent Bikies murder/suicide. MOO

I was under the impression that the new smart watches don't need to be near the mobile phone anymore.
That’s only if you buy a cellular enabled watch and pay for a separate cellular line for the watch. Otherwise some watch functions work, GPS, tracking, even music if you have a watch with enough storage, but the watch will need to sync with your phone before the data is accessible on the web/cloud. Calls texting, etc don’t work unless your phone is within Bluetooth range.

Moo but google will back me up or smart watch ad fine print.

MCs parents were in a foreign country and IIRC didn’t have a lot of faith in the local police.

^^^ this has been my line of thought since that Thursday presser with MM and JM. Or business related. Much $ has been spent in the last two years which doesn't seem to marry up.

I think it's quite odd, that her husband is not out there helping with the search.

Instead, he has made a statement to thank everyone for going out looking for Samantha.

I think this has been premeditated for a while, and she has been taken right away somewhere where It's not close to home, for the obvious search parties, and so she is not easily found, possibly a paid hit

I think more than one person is involved

But why ?

And why his wife Samantha ? If it was revenge, why not his kids ?

Something the police would be digging into his affairs and the families.

CCTV footage at home and businesses, communications experts checking Samantha's phone and data

( Interesting, the police have said she had her Apple Watch on her when she was leaving, but are now saying she might not have been wearing it ) Which gives me the impression there is more CCTV footage from her home and the police are being quiet on

I wouldn't be surprised if surveillance is already going ahead

And possibly Interpol could be involved

Hi all catching up after a few busy days at work - lots of great posts.

For me another of the baffling things about this is the lack of mentions in the Melbourne media. I live in Melbourne and monitor the two local papers The Age and The Herald Sun, both online and in print. Also local radio and TV news. There is really not much getting reported at all except for very occasional and minimal pieces. Nothing much at all this week until the “inside the case” piece yesterday which was interesting but still didn’t reveal a lot.

This seems to be a big big case. I’d expect it to be front page news for both papers with probing investigative reports almost every day. The Mushroom case very recently was a good example, the local media were all over that. The Baden Clay case up in Brisbane years ago, the Melissa Caddick disappearance, these cases are usually all over the media every day front and centre.

We have had Taylor Swift in Melbourne this week taking the headlines I suppose, thank god that circus has moved on. But this lack of media interest just seems really odd and off to me.

It’s only really the Daily Mail coming up with regular new angles daily, mostly click bait.

Along with lack of facts, lack of comments from police, seemingly early ending of the search, and lack of comments/appeals from immediate family or close friends, it is not normal IMO.

My assumption is therefore the police have asked the media for this situation to be kept very low key, basic housekeeping articles only, and the local media are respecting that request. Perhaps in return for a deal on an exclusive when there is info. And similar requests to friends and family, which is also being respected (although uncle and aunt may have missed the initial memo, they seem to have the memo now).

It hopefully all points toward the police having a strong theory/lead and just needing time to gather evidence to ensure a conviction. But it suggests also, unfortunately, that ever since the offical search was called off there has been no point rushing an urgent and critical search and rescue operation anymore which sadly may not bode well for SM and family. IMO

How can they have no leads yet?
Surely they check all known POI and anyone close to her.
She doesn't sound rich but maybe another Abraham incident

They have well passes the first 48 hours in which any evidence left from a struggle or "crime" may be fresh with finger prints or blood. Who could have a motive to have her gone? Who gets the most out of this if she's dead?
