And what is special about this place?
Many crimes in Australia have been solved using CCTV footage from Bunnings for goods purchased to be used for body disposal.

If the accused purchased rope, cement, acid etc... It would help build the case.

This is actually an old video. "Released April 12, 2024". Even though it was uploaded to YouTube a few days ago.

This is what it says under the video on the YouTube site.

Police have stepped up the search for the missing Ballarat mother Samantha Murphy calling in specially trained sniffer dogs from New South Wales for the first time. They won't reveal what it is but fresh information has steered the hunt to a new area of bushland 25 kilometres south of Ballarat.

Released April 12, 2024

2014 ???

Poor old Mitre 10 never gets a look in, although it's safe to say footage from any hardware store would be checked. I think alleged killers think they can mingle and get lost amongst the crowd at Bunnings.
Don't worry about poor Mitre 10. Bunnings is bad enough trying to get things nowadays, not like the good old days, most things are online now

That's incredibly sad that it's an old video, I just listened to it quickly and got excited. I hope that behind the scenes police are gathering more and more evidence, but the lack of fresh searches is bitterly disappointing.

Mick Murphy with his wife Samantha Murphy.

More than three months on, he told 9News in an exclusive interview that he hasn't stopped searching for his beloved wife.

"On that particular day, I was outside and thought she'll be coming up the road pretty soon," he said.

"Then she didn't.

"I just thought, 'Ah well, she might've gone a bit longer'. I went outside and said to the kids, 'Has mum come home yet?' and they said no. I thought that was a bit odd."

"Sometimes I go for a drive and it might not be anywhere particular, or I go for a walk for two hours. It varies every day," he said.

"It's very good for my mind and if I sat at home I wouldn't do myself any favours."

Sadly, another murder where Bunnings gets a mention……..

Tradie’s chilling act after killing pregnant wife Arnima Hayat

“The day after the murder, Mr Zafar drove to Bunnings in Northmead on two occasions and bought a total of 100L of hydrochloric acids.

After returning home, he poured the hydrochloric acid into the bathtub and moved Ms Hayat’s body into the tub “in an attempt to dispose of Ms Hayat’s remains”, facts revealed.”

I’ve tried to keep up with the thread and am not sure if this has been discussed BUT does anyone else think finding the phone was a police strategy? In that the police possibly have had it for a while and planted it in the dam and then invited the media to capture the moment?

I still have a feeling (MOO) that someone else was involved in helping PS after the murder…maybe finding the phone was a way to draw out the person who helped?

I like your lateral thinking about the 'backdating' of the finding of the phone but not sure the police would actually pull a stunt like that.

I still favour the 'one person acting alone' theory but there's probably a lot we aren't hearing and it is hard to join the dots because there aren't many.

The thought has crossed my mind that the police may have already found Mrs Murphy's body and only told the immediate family. Just a thought

I think that if PS threw the phone into the dam before he disposed of Sam - perhaps along the way to disposing of her - the phone was never going to reveal where he took Sam's body.

Even if the police could retrieve GPS data of the phone's movements, that data would have stopped at the dam.

imo

Wow! Now that is really thinking outside the square. But at the moment there really aren't any right or wrong answers, only theories. So who knows, you might be on to something?

Honestly, everyone should be truly horrified by the frequency of women being attacked and murdered in this country.
I grew up in regional Victoria, not far from where Samantha was allegedly murdered, and I now live in Inner West Sydney near where this woman has been killed. For context, Inner West Sydney is considered comparatively to be a bit of a progressive ‘bubble’ of politically left people….goes to show how pervasive this violence towards women in particular is across all demographics
Yep add this to the long list ........3 kids ........attempted murder 7 kids & mum by father

Hello @BreakingNews,
Thanks!
  • I too have wondered the same - for many reasons - one being how *quiet* petal has been as he sits in remand on his sorry (I hope) a r s e.
Also, missing woman & Ballarat again: Police renew plea for information on Ballarat woman missing for more than a month:
  1. Poor Renee, she looks so cold. I pray she's found safe.
  2. I'm so glad the residents helped her.
  3. I hope the pussy-cat is ok, I'm sure it is - it's just the article does not say.
  • On another note entirely - to *all* the lovely WS participants who valiantly tried to train this old dog how to 'add double quotes' - thank you so very much - but - I'm done - some things cannot be learnt - my brain & my fingers do not talk to each other for DQs ;)o_O;)
Finally, always thinking of Samantha Murphy, her family, all those who know & love her, the Ballarat Community & the coppers who are invested in finding her - I wish *all* of them *all* the strength in the universe.
MOO
